Union Tpke Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3526 Posted July 30, 2013 To get more frequent service in some areas that aren't at capacity I said before manhattan because most of the lines in manhattan din't have the capacity for more trains. Union Tpke Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3527 Posted July 30, 2013 This can use some under used express tracks. This could save time for passengers because fir example a 2 trai. Can start at wakefield go via the express track to E 180 St where passengers can transfer to the 5 or 2 trains to manhattan. Overall this should save time for passengers. I realize it would not work on the Queens Blvd Line, but it should certainly work on lines with barely used express tracks. Jamaica Line Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3529 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) love taking that curve just pass Hewes St heading northbound via J express, looks harmless as hell but the cars quickly jerk to the side, catching a lot of people off guard... then right after it takes the curve you hear the fast clickety clack of the tracks... has to be one of my favorite runs in the system. wonder how'd it would feel on a set of 32s in the last car... paulrivera Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3530 Posted July 30, 2013 I saw two sets of R62A's on the this morning. One of the sets has 5 cars from the line mixed with 5 cars from Corona. And no, I didnt see/notice any RFW's on either train.
4P3607 Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3531 Posted July 30, 2013 According to this... http://www.thejoekorner.com/carassignments/index.html After the gets split in two sections, the Southern Portion of the will use Coney Island Alstom R160's and the will have 16-17 trains of R46 during Rush Hour... ...Now that roster isn't 100% accurate. (Actually it mostly is, but the likes to change things at the last second ). Anyway, if you notice it says R160B-1 on the only. Same with the . If the still uses Siemens, then the will most likely as well. Also, I'm pretty sure Jamaica Yard will send some of its R160s back to CI (Likely 9198-9232) (until the service gets restored), or CI won't have enough R160s to put on the (It makes sense when you look at it, otherwise CI would be short on cars and JY would have all these extra R160s). Like I said, its not 100% accurate. It also says the is 100% R68 (No R68A, which is not true). But i'm looking forward to those R46 . It will be the old days all over again . (Now if only they would bring back the R32 ).

The reason I like the R160s is they're obviously in great shape and have quite a bit of giddyup. Those Jamaica R46s often have bucking, are creaky and just plain slow compared to the R160s. Still, nostalgia and all, I'm cool with it.
Snowblock Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3533 Posted July 30, 2013 The new service signs are up at Dekalb! I was expecting them to go with those black text on white background signs like they usually use for temporary service changes like Smith-9, but they're the regular type. Looks like this is gonna be for the long haul.

realizm Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3536 Posted July 30, 2013 Never rode the SIR. That one I never did. Otherwise I rode every single subway line in the system, even ones in the past such as the , and the when I was very, very young (once) . On top of that, arriving at Court Street, people asking if this was running on the line even after the conductor said it was..I mean honestly, where else would this go?! The ? realizm Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3541 Posted July 30, 2013 The ones from Jamaica are good. Though I do hear some squeaking. However, the ones on the , suck. Different maintenance shops I believe, R46's on the are maintained by Jamaica Yard for minor repairs and the CI Complex maintenance shops. With the R46's on the maintained by Pitkin Yard (minor repairs), also 207th Street heavy overhaul shops. Keep in mind that the travels through very rough terrain, so it's not surprising that the specialists @ 207th has a lot on their hands with the added challenges to keep the R46's there in good working order.

itmaybeokay Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3544 Posted July 30, 2013 But i'm looking forward to those R46 . It will be the old days all over again . (Now if only they would bring back the R32 ). In practice, I find the R46's to be troublesome on the , specifically evening rush hours. The 75' cars take longer to load/unload, and have a larger problem of passengers clustering by the doors. I find that R46 trains at Rock Ctr, when I'm on my way home waiting for the , are usually delayed and crowded. The crowding is of course exacerbated by the delay. In fact, once montague shuts it's portals for the year I might switch to taking the home. Starting it's run at whitehall, It'll probably be less delayed than the . Does anyone remember where to find the headways the trains will be running on after the montague split?

realizm Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3546 Posted July 30, 2013 One of my only complaints I have with the R46's (and the R68's for that matter) is the transverse seating. Most straphangers who are men nowadays are anatomically taller then they were back in the 70's when the tranverse bucket seating idea was implemented. Myself for one who is at 5'10" and 182 lbs (according to my doctor when I had a physical done for the new nursing internship) I really am not comfortable at all sitting in one of the transverse bucket seats. Cant stand it. If it was rush hour with few seats available and if there was nothing more available for seating but those seats seriously I'd rather stand. It was a good move on the MTA to get rid of that seating arrangement with the intro of the R143's. Thank goodness. It would help better for larger passenger capacity anyway per car, an anvantage on the part of the MTA with decreased passenger load times. Performance-wise, as a straphanger, I'd say either way these cars run. From a T/O's perspective from comments I heard, the R68's and R68A's are better to handle then the R46's which do not brake to a full stop as quickly as compared to the R68's in general.
Snowblock Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3547 Posted July 30, 2013 Does anyone remember where to find the headways the trains will be running on after the montague split? First out of 95 St going to Court St will be 0521, and then returns to 95 St as the 0600 out of Court. The last one out of 95 St will be the 2249, and returns to 95 St as the 2332 out of Court. 15 minute headways from 0521 until 0558, and then 10 minute headways until 0638, and then 7-8 minute headways until 0856, then 10 minute headways (6's out of 95, 7's out of Court) until 1506, then 7-8 minute headways (the PM put-in's all go into service at 36 St N/B, so they'll be some gaps for the 95-45 portion) until 1914, then 10 minute headways until 2114, then 12 minute headways until shuttle service begins. First out of CTL is 0502. and then returns as the 0600 out of Whitehall (interestingly, this trip is handled by a MIDNIGHT crew who is just starting their day!). Headways are all over the place from 6-12 minutes during morning rush, and then 10 minute headways middays (8's out of CTL, 7's out of Whitehall), and then all over the place again for rush and the evening. Last train out of CTL is the 2229, last out of Whitehall is the 2329.

itmaybeokay Posted July 30, 2013 Share #3550 Posted July 30, 2013 Last train out of CTL is the 2229, last out of Whitehall is the 2329. It makes sense they'd axe the 2242 out of CTL That is always a frustrating interval: late evenings on queens blvd local going southbound. Trains every 5-8 minutes all evening - then all of a sudden: Last R train followed 2 minutes later by the last M train. Then wait 20 minutes for the first local Echo - enjoy your stay. Then the E is on 10 minute headways gradually slowing down to the late night 3tph. I'll do just about anything to avoid just barely missing that last .
