Saints 27 49ers 24

Broncos 13 Patriots 30

Texans 10 Ravens 20

Giants 38 Packers 31

JW i don't think ever in the NFL 2nd round(since the 1970 merger)all '4' road teams have ever won in the divisional round.

My picks are:

- Saints 28, 49ers 18 (yes... 6 FG's... that's all they ever seem to do is kick FG's)

- Packers 21, Giants 27 (dam refs aint goin help the packers this time around)

- Ravens 17, Texans 24 (upset pick of the week)

- Patriots 42, Broncos 16 (pats will score early & often... then run up the scoreboard towards the end of the game in typical belicheat fashion)

well, that's one prediction wrong....

49ers comeback to beat the saints w/ a last second TD.... 36-32....

Both teams stopped playing D in the 4th qtr, and it just so happens that the saints left too much time on the clock after that graham TD which gave them the lead at the time.... I didn't think Alex Smith had it in him to lead his team to a playoff GW drive, to be honest....

Alex Smith to Vernon Davis. TD. 49ers win 36-32. Great game. 4 lead changes in last few of this game.

49ers only won because game was at Candlestick and only reason i picked SF. If at NO Superdome or 'neutral field' Saints wins easy IMO. On paper the Saints are *slightly* better.

Bro(B35) what happened in 1st half of 49ers/saints game? I went out grocery shopping and just started to watch from end of 3rd period.

1 pick right. 3 to go. Watching for my upset special in team tebow.

B35 for first time in about 10 years when rookie brady led the Pats to upset Kurt Warner Rams in the 2001 super bowl(jan. 2002) the NFC has been the better league in the NFL this season.

In the super bowl era it been a cycle on better league/conference. In the 70's it was the AFC.(helped when Steelers moved from NFC to AFC)Then through the 80's and most of the 90's the NFC(led by the 49ers, Cowboys, Giants and Redskins who won all the titles between the 1987-'95 seasons)was better. Then since about the 2001 season till this year(2011)the AFC been the better league. Now it looks like the shift has occured again and maybe the NFC domnaites for next few years.

PS. As of this writing the Pats just scored again and now lead 21-7.

Pats now up 35-7. I think it's just hit 'midnight' for cinderlla tebow. Bronocos i don't think has won any games losing this many at the half. They won fairly low scoring games.

Well bro you did go '1 for 2' in today's games. The Bronocos only chance of winning was keeping the game close by the half. It was a wrap early on.

I''m not shocked by the Giants winning per se, but I'm shocked at the score!

I was expecting this game to be one of those "right down to the last play" type of games. G men blew them out!

I'm hoping for a Giants - Ravens SB to get payback for 2000, at least this time around it will be competitive.

With the Giants going to play SF next week I can't help but to think of 2003.... what a heart breaker that was....

Or no one remember 1990(Jan. 1991) This is so underrated among best NFL playoff games ever. And I am no Giants(NFL) or 49ers fan. Also game that ended Joe Montana carrer and the 49ers 1980's Dystany.

part 1(start)

1990 NFC Championship part 1/15 - YouTube

part 2(end)matt behr.

Man i miss the days of the great team of Pat Summerall and John Madden.:)

The sweet smell of victory.

The 49ers offense will have no match for the GMen and Elite Manning. I can smell the Vince Lombardi trophy right now.

Just an idea: I know all Giants fans despise Matt Dodge, but lets admit: Matt Dodge has a super powerful leg. A team should bring him in next year during the preseason and see how he does as a kickoff specialist. One team that should be interested is the Giants: Lawerence Tynes shows just how bad he is by kicking the ball out of bounds during the kickoff today.

Giants upset the Packers again. Any reactions to game or NFC title vs 49ers?

Guess my total prediction for this game was 1/2 right.... Yes, I picked the Giants, but the refs tried their HARDEST to keep them in the game.... got worried for a second there, as there was seemingly a bit of a momentum shift in the packers favor (if you believe in that sort of thing)......

Problem was, you can't expect to be fully bailed out when you as a team put the ball on the ground (fumble) that many times in one game, and all them damn dropped passes as well.... If I drop you in a 20 foot ditch, a 6 foot ladder aint goin help ya ass.... LMAO !

As for the NFC title game next week, I think it's going to be one of those ugly games.... not much scoring (which is the opposite of what both teams did to get to this game in the first place), mad 3 & outs, last possession's gonna come down to a FG.... somethin like 13-10, or 17-14....

Man i miss the days of the great team of Pat Summerall and John Madden.^_^

....When play-by-play analyses & color commentary actually meant something, as opposed to the mockery it is today... especially in the NBA....

Speaking of gimmicks, that is one major reason I don't watch MNF on ESPN (regardless of who's playing).... they do more talkin about a bunch of nothin & crackin wack ass jokes, moreso than focusing on the game at hand... like the game is secondary as to why they're up in the booth in the first place......

1st statement: same here, I thought it would also be a close game....

The sad part is, the score could have been much worse, had the giants capitalized off all those GB turnovers; even if they would've scored FG's...

2nd statement: is exactly what I said in the shoutbox earlier !

So someone else is feelin me on that tip also.... (this year's) Ravens still aint prove anything yet.....

3rd statement: I sat up there & watched that whole game.... incredible how that game ended... IINM, that was the game that started that whole coaching mindset there-afterwards of "let's attempt the GW FG on 3rd down while we can, just in case the holder bobbles the ball"....

Next week is going to be a good N.F.C. Championship Game.

Maybe Patriots-Giants or Ravens-49ers?

NFL better pray the latter doesn't happen.... that'll end up being a low rated game outside of baltimore & california.....

Then again, folks watch the superbowl for the commercials anyway, so I guess that's a moot point on my part....

The sweet smell of victory.

Right on, champ....

....and like I told Shortline in the shoutbox, no remaining team in the AFC (ravens, pats) has a better team than either remaining team in the NFC (49ers, giants).....

Just saw your edit....

As long as Dodge aint out there punting, they can try w/e they'd like.....

As for Lawrence Tynes... when it comes down to long(er) distance FG's, I don't worry..... when it comes down to shorter kicks, is where you have to start worrying w/ him.... he has a tendency to "shank" FG's that most kickers/coaches would deem as "gimmies".... Anyway, that kickoff where he booted it OOB earlier, I won't put too much stock in.....

Problem is (B35) is that the almost all of the prime time 'national tv announcers' whether joe buck, mike tricio, Jim nantz, etc. on the NFL are also trying to appeal to the growing 'casual' younger male and female audiences watching the NFL and other sports.(not trying to sound sexist there but being trurthful) The only major nfl play-play man that is old school IMO is al micheals.

That why Sportscenter has gone down the toliet. That also why these broadcasts has become also a 'reality' and entertainment show as well. In this the NFL trying to make 'human' american football in what is othewise a brutal gladitor-type of a masucline sport.

Was listening to WFAN's Mike Francesa for first hour of today's (1/16/12)show. Almost all of the callers were b*tching and moaning about the horrible calls that the refs had. Some callers even went to accuse the refs and NFL of trying to make the blown calls so the Packers could come back and make a close game for TV ratings purposes.

Wow! Giant fans be happy you team won.^_^

I was listening to the show in my car and laughing out loud at the callers but.....in the big picture they were correct. That Giants-Packers game only highlighted the piss-poor state of officiating in the NFL these last few years. It's one thing to blow a wham bam play but to look at a replay and fail to correct an error that anyone in the stadium ( Jumbotron) or at home can see makes the whole thing seem suspect to say the least. I've been saying for a while that TV networks, professional sports, and the NCAA play favorites but it seems to be rather blatant lately IMO. Just my opinion though. Carry on.

I'd say they're justified in doing so.... it was that bad, bro......

But as far as for the sake of boosting TV ratings? t'hell with that.... I say these refs were cheating b/c they wanted the golden boy (Rodgers) to advance..... It's not coincidence that the refs had to "assist" the packers in both meetings against the giants.... There were bad calls all over the place in both games... Yesterday's though, had to be one of the most blatant one-sided called games I've ever seen in any one NFL game.....

If you saw the ESPN postgame last night, you'd have thought someone passed away during the game itself, with how silent & unenthused/unenthusiastic the panel was in analyzing it... long breaks/pauses b/w comments all over the place... well, except for tom jackson....

It's like NOBODY wanna give the Giants props for beating the Packers.... I'd be more fed up with that than anything....

Hell, I'll agree that the packers lost this game more than the giants won it - But still, the giants still put up 37 points...

Bro(B35) Francesa on Today's show (1/16/11)also said the refs did a horrible job and called out on lead ref Levy(if not correct w/ his name please let me know lol)

However as an 'establishment in-the industry guy' Francesa tried to downplay and even tried to cut off the few callers who believe in the theory Trainmaster and B35 says on the so called 'cheating' refs though.

Instead Francesa suggested this idea on replay. That during the playoffs, similar to the NHL, in which 'upstairs' offical not on the ice makes all decisions on challenges/reviewing goal scoring plays? In other words, Francesa thinks the on-field refs should no longer be making decisions. i.e going to an on-field video montior to review and if needed reverse or maintain plays i.e TD's & turnovers only? That instead an offical 'upstairs' in the stadium suite or a tv truck on the stadium site and away from the field of play to make those decisons instead?

What you guys think?

I heard Mike's proposal in part and thought that it may work in hockey for scoring plays as well as the NFL in scoring situations but what about the run of the mill holding or off-side or out of bounds plays? This season I've seen many questionable late hit, roughing the passer, and helmet to helmet penalties called. There were a few plays this season where the offensive player has lowered HIS head, creating a helmet to helmet collision, yet the defensive player is called for the infraction ( Steelers/Harrison ) yet the defender is doing what is fundamentally correct. Yesterday's Giants-Packers game featured similar situations happening with BOTH Qbs in passing situations with the wrong call/no call made by one officiating crew. I doubt if the " Big Brother" eye in the sky can be any help when the crew on the field is so inept. I never heard the whole proposal so help me out here. Was he suggesting an extra official be placed upstairs to oversee the officials on the field or actually make some of the calls himself ? As it stands right now an officiating crew can make an obvious error on the field that's not automatically reviewed (not a scoring play) yet that error can lead to an undeserved score for the other team a few minutes later. I can only imagine the uproar if the team that got such a gift were to win a game, regular season, playoff, or the Super Bowl itself, under such circumstances. Something needs to done if the NFL wants to ensure the integrity of it's game. I'm just unsure of what steps the league can realistically make at this point.

I think Francesa was proposing that an 'booth offical' that part of the offical but not on the field such as a retired 'senior' offical. That judge would be solely responsible to 'call in' to the led ref to review and overturn calls/challenges. In other words he was suggesting that instead of the ref going to the on-field montior on challenges or reviewing plays, that 'booth offical' not on the field makes the final decision on plays that to replay or challenges.

Hope you understand buddy(trainmaster).
