This is what happens when you have to deal with the varying problems all at the same time.

A lot of that is over complicating things. It makes no sense to run (F) trains up to York Street, and then have a single track shuttle from York Street to East Broadway (which has no subway connections past that point). It also makes no sense to have (F) trains running to 72nd Street, and terminating at 57th Street (which would affect trains running past 57th Street). All you need is to have (F)'s via 53rd Street, the select (F) 's via Crosstown, and then the (F)'s run via the (A) in both directions between Jay Street and West 4th Street.

What if:

  • Due to deferred maintenance, a (J) train derails at Delancey-Essex, and then starts a fire in the old trolley terminal, which completely destroys the station.
  • A small earthquake on the eastern end of the 125th St Fault Line hits, and the following areas are closed due to an abundance of caution
    • (4)(5)(6)<6> 77th to 125th
    • (F)<F> Roosevelt to 21st
    • (Q) 96th to 72nd (you CAN turn trains at 72nd)
    • MNRR 125th to 97th Portal
  • A broken rail causes the switch to fail southbound at 34th, meaning no (N)(R)(W) trains can run on the local track SB

REROUTE!

(J) operates in two sections, between Jamaica Center Parsons Archer and Marcy Avenue making all local stops, and between Broad Street and Chambers Street.  A free out of system transfer is available between Lorimer Street and Broadway (G) station

(Z) suspended

(4) operates in two sections, between Woodlawn and 149th Street Grand Concourse and between 59th Street and Crown Heights Utica Avenue making all local stops in Manhattan.

(5) operates via the (2) between 149th Street Grand Concourse and Nevins Street.

(6) operates between Pelham Bay Park and 3rd Avenue 138th Street only.

(F) operates via the (E) between Jackson Heights Roosevelt Avenue and 5th Avenue 59th Street, via the (M) from Lexington Avenue 59th Street to 47th 50th Streets Rockefeller Center, and via the (C) from West 4th Street to Jay Street Metrotech.  Due to capacity constraints, some (F) trains will run via the (G) between Court Square and Bergen Street.

(M) operates in two sections, between Middle Village Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, and between 72nd Street (Q) station and 2nd Avenue Lower East Side (F) station.

(W) suspended.

Downtown (R) runs express from 34th Street Herald Square and Canal Street.  For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Shuttle buses fill in the remaining gaps.

Yes but I would be trying to accommodate as many people as possible.  You could add switches if need be at East Broadway to allow the (F) to continue and terminate there, which would eliminate that need.

As for having some (F) trains terminating at 57th as opposed to 72nd, it's capacity issues with the (Q) also terminating at 72nd.  If that station had been built as originally intended with three tracks, then the (F) could be fully terminated with the (Q) at 72nd with fewer issues.

What If:

  • The Newton Creek overflows and completely cuts out the (G)reenpoint Tubes, as well as the (L) at Morgan Av
  • Due to ESA construction, the (F) is suspended in the 63rd Tubes
  • There is a broken rail queens bound on the (7) just south of Queensboro Plaza
  • There is a derailment at Jay St caused by an Overspeeding train that knocks out the (A)(C)(F) and (G). The <F> is not affected.

Between Myrtle-Wycoff Avenues (L)(M) and Bedford Avenue (L) making all local stops.

why doesn't the (C) end at World Trade Center? This way, you can run the (M) train thru 6 Av. Otherwise you'd have to end the (M) at Chambers St (and no Queens Blvd/6 Av service)

The (L) could run from 8 Av to Lorimer St (not Bedford Av). Also, you cannot run the (L) via the (J) to Chambers because you have the (J)(M)(Z) running thru the Williamsburg Bridge.

(M) will be rerouted via 63 St to 96 St or end at 57 St-6 Av

I sent the (C) to 2nd Avenue because there isn't enough capacity to terminate it at WTC with the (E) still terminating there.  I kept the (M) on it's normal route, but terminating it at 96th would be an option to keep service to 57th Street.  As for the areas where 3 different services share the same track, I'm assuming that this is not happening during rush hour, so there would be enough room.  During weekend G.O.'s they often run 3 services on the same track.  Since the (A) isn't running, I assume that the (J) can't handle the transfer volume from both services unless it is running rush hour frequencies.  Instead of doing that, I just send some of the (L) trains through to Chambers Street.

An (A) derails just after Hoyt, causing a complete closure of all four lines. <F> is already on lower level by then.

Given the physical segregation, that’s a pretty cartoonish situation. It’s like the 5 seconds Willie E Coyote has to think about the fall before he actually falls off the cliff. No semblance to physical possibilities.

  • A downtown (B) train split the switch at 59th Street Columbus Circle, cutting off all access to 6th Avenue from either track, and access to 8th Avenue from the local track.
  • A water main break has flooded 57th Street 6th Avenue and 5th Avenue 59th Street.
  • A 179th Street bound (F) train with door problems was removed from service at Forest Hills 71st Avenue.  A terminating (R) train on the local track was sent to 179th Street to avoid creating a gap in service, requiring the switch east of the station to be moved.  When the switch moved, it got stuck, preventing trains on the local track from accessing the yard lead.

How could a derailing train knock out power to half of Midtown?

Something a bit more realistic:

  • A garbage train on the Bay Ridge Branch derails and spews toxic garbage onto the platform at Avenue H (Q). This causes the closure of the station and all tracks except the NB express track (you can use that track)
  • A slow moving NJT train in sunnyside Yard collides with an overspeeding Amtrak train, and they both knock into the support structures of the (7). As a precaution, The (7) line is closed Hunters Point Av to QB Plaza.
  • A severe windstorm on the East River causes whirlpools between 50 St and 57 St. Because of this, the 53 St Tunnels are closed.
  • A track fire inside the Bowling Green loop causes all trains in the area to not be able to pass. This affects the (1)(4)(5)(R).

It’s just for fun relax , but I did say a severe explosion , it may not lead to it but it can cause power to need to be shut off in that surrounding area but you’re one to talk about unrealistic situations

I can't tell if this is a joke or irony or both..

(B) service is suspended, (Q) service ends at Prospect Park relaying on the middle track.

(7) service is from QB Plaza to Flushing, use Shuttle, (N)  and (W) trains for service to Manhattan.

(M) trains run on (F) line from Rockefeller to 36 St via 63 Line. (E) trains run via the (F) from W 4 St to Jackson Heights. Use (R) train for Local Service to Queens Plaza

(1) trains end at Rector St (though if it's just affecting the Loop the (1) and (R) shouldn't even be affected) the (R) is running via Bridge, use (W) trains for Whitehall Service.

(4) trains end at Bowling Green, relaying on the Uptown Bound track, (every 5 minutes), the (5) train will run via the (2) line. Use (2)(3)(5) trains at Fulton Street.

REROUTE AWAY!

Garbage train derail might be realistic, but amtrak and NJT, LIRR hitting Flushing Line struction is not realistic.

Also (B)(Q) is not Bay Ridge Branch which he made mistake. (R) and late night (N) doesn't get affected since it's not in Bowling Green.

I think he really need to go to NYCSUbway.org and track maps before he do scenarios.

I think that all of these are realistic!

@Theli11 good reroutes!
