Hence the "What If" Title. Let me rephrase:

A BLACKOUT has happened in the Lexingiton Ave Line in Manahttan.

Reroute/Suspend

(4) between 149th St and Woodlawn.

(5) shuttle.

(6) between 3rd Avenue and Pelham Bay Park.

You have to ask what kind of blackout would only affect just the strip of Lexington Avenue and even the Lexington Avenue LINE.

A simple one:

(4) runs local with the (6) to Brooklyn Bridge

(5) terminates at Grand Central OR runs via the (2) between 149th-GC and Nevins Street.

Next:

The Cranberry and Clark Street tunnels are knocked out by a power failure that only affect the tunnels, but no individual stations (Montauge and Joralemon are NOT affected by this).  Local politicians have made clear that there MUST be midtown service from the Broadway-Brooklyn line in one form or another (during hours the (M) would normally run to midtown), even when other services have to be re-routed.

At the same time, the switch in the Montauge Tunnel going northbound is forcing ALL trains onto the Nassau Street line AND a separate switching issue in Brooklyn is preventing local trains on the 4th Avenue line from being able to switch over to the Bridge tracks north of Pacific Street.

The uptown express/local tracks are knocked out between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge - city Hall. Reroute/Suspened.

(3): Runs to New Lots Av all times until further notice. Late night, (3) runs local.

(4): No trains between Grand Central-42nd St and Utica/New Lots Av.

(5): Dyre Av-bound trains will run on (2) 7th Av-Broadway Line from Nevin St to 3rd Av-149th St.

(6): No trains between 42nd St-Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

Shuttle buses operate as two.

1. Local shuttle bus makes all station stops between Grand Central-42nd St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

2. Express shuttle bus operates between Grand Central-42nd St and South Ferry-Whitehall Stwith stop at 14th St-Union Sq, Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall/Chambers St, Fulton St, Wall-Rector Sts, Bowling Green.

I misread the earlier post, I thought it was JUST the express tracks on the Lexington Avenue Line:

Some (2) trains run to 148th Street-Lenox Terminal to replace the (3) north of 135th Street.

(3) Runs all times between New Lots Avenue and Nevins Street via normal route and then via the Lexington Avenue line to Fulton Street

(Note: Some trains terminate at Wall Street, all Fulton Street trains terminate on the downtown track).

(4) runs between Woodlawn and Grand Central ONLY!!

(5) runs via the (2) between Nevins Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse at all times (late nights, (5) runs to Times Square in place of the (3) ).

Special Shuttle buses operate between 60th Street-Lexington Avenue and Bowling Green in Manhattan/

Due to chaotic signal/junction/track problems, the following are affected.

The Uptown tracks Express/Local are knocked out on the (1)(2)(3) Between 96 Street and Chambers Street, and there are junction problems at Chambers Street forcing the (2)(3) Trains to go to South Ferry.

The Downtown Local/Express Tracks are knocked out between 138 Street - Grand Concourse and Bowling Green on the (4)(5)(6), the City Hall Loop is unaffected by this. Also, there are junction problems at 125 Street forcing the (6) to go via the (5).

There is havoc with the CBTS systems on the (L) / (7) lines that have halted all trains between the following stations:

Bedford Ave - Broadway Junction (L)

Times Square to Queens Boro Plaza and Mets - Willets point to Flushing - Main Street.

There are junction Problems at Queenboro Plaza forcing the (N)(Q) to go via the (7) and the (7) to go via the (N)(Q).

The 42 Street Shuttle Tracks are knocked out at this time as well.

Reroute/Suspened.

the (N)(Q) cannot go on the (7) line and vice versa. there are no connecting tracks. Nowhere in the system do IRT and BMT/IND tracks connect.

Ahem *QueensBoro Plaza*. Thereare junctions linking both the (7) and the (N)(Q).

Yes. You've found the fact that the tracks are connected. If you looked deeper into the issue though, you'd also know that the track connections cannot actually be used because of platform differences.

A lot of facts out there are secret only to those who don't do a thorough job of finding them. And I wasn't the guy who blurted out answers in class without being absolutely sure of what I was saying.

Anyway, this was the last one I wrote before I realized I misread an earlier "What If?":

What the shit? Half of this isn't possible at all...in any case...

1: 242 St to 137 St

2: 241 St to 96 St, Wall St to Flatbush Av

3: suspended

4: Woodlawn to 149-Concourse, Borough Hall to New Lots Av via local

5: Dyre Av to E 180 St

6: Pelham Bay Park to 3 Av-138 St

7: Main St to 74 St (see below), Times Square to Court Square

L: 8 Av to Bedford Av, Broadway Junction to Canarsie

N: Queensboro Plaza to Coney Island (see below)

Q: 57 St-7 Av to Coney Island

Notes:

-the (7) does not have CBTC active yet so the first half of that section is thrown out the window

-The crossover between Flushing and Astoria trains is only for NORTHBOUND trains only. There is no crossover going southbound. Astoria trains have their own crossover outside the station (after the tunnel portal) where they can use if trains need to be turned back to Manhattan.

-BMT trains can actually fit on the Flushing Line, but only as far as about south of 33 St in an emergency. They have to take the Flushing Express line-up ONLY.

-There's no such thing as CBTS

Tone down the imagination next time...and lay off the subway bullets

There are connections between the (N)(Q) and (7) at Queensboro Plaza, between the (A)(C) and (1) at the 207th St yard, and between the (B)(D) and (4) at the Concourse Yard. You can check the track maps.

No No, you don't underdtand. I told you that there were JUNCTIONS problems at Queenboro Plaza, did I say that there were (7) trains going on the (N) line?

That's not what you said just a few posts ago:

There are junction Problems at Queenboro Plaza forcing the (N)(Q) to go via the (7) and the (7) to go via the (N)(Q).

(2)(3) via (1) at Chambers St

Uptown: (2)(3) run LOCAL via (1) to 34th St.

Downtown: (2)(3) run LOCAL via (1) from 34th St to before Chambers St so they can avoid the broken switch and take the local-to-express switch north of Chambers and continue along their way to Brooklyn.

A woman is caught with drugs in her sock at the Broadway Lafayette station and she runs from the police onto the tracks and through the tunnels heading eastward. All service is shut down between Broadway-Lafayette and the Rutgers Ave (F) Line and Chrystie Street (B)(D)(M) line so the police can investigate.

Lines affected: (B)(D)(F)(M)

Suspend/Reroute away!

Interesting......

(B) is suspended.

No (D) between W 4 Street and Atlantic Avenue.

(F) runs on the (A) from W 4 Street to Jay Street.

No (M) north of Essex Street.

(N) runs local in Brooklyn, but still runs via Manhattan Bridge.

This is the least fake-sounding scenario yet.
