MysteriousBtrain Posted November 23, 2014 Share #4504 Posted November 23, 2014 broken rails on the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge cause the bridge to be shut down. Lines Affected: Suspend/Reroute Apparently you don't know the history of the Manhattan Bridge, but whatever... is suspended runs in two sections: Norwood-34 Street and Atlantic/Barclays-Coney Island and use the Montague Street tunnel.
Wallyhorse Posted November 23, 2014 Share #4505 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) ok now A power box breaks down and completely shuts off all power in Times Square and no service is available at Times Square on any line. Lines Affected A/C/E/N/Q/R/S/1/2/3/7 Reroute/Suspend! As only Times Square is affected and this will take several hours to fix: runs as follows: Lefferts Boulevard trains run normal to Columbus Circle (local 168th-CC), then via 6th Avenue to West 4th and then normal from there (stopping at Spring). Far Rockaway trains run from there to 34th Street-Penn Station ONLY (trains skip 23rd and Spring Street)!! Change between Lefferts Boulevard and Far Rockaway trains anywhere between West 4th and Rockaway Boulevard. runs 34th Street-Penn Station-Euclid Avenue ONLY (some trains skip 23rd and Spring Street)!! runs via 63rd Street and 6th Avenue to West 4th. Some trains run via the between Roosevelt Avenue and Bergen Street OR terminate at 2nd Avenue or Delancey Street. and are extended to 95th Street-Bay Ridge to replace the (which is completely suspended) in Brooklyn. runs in two sections: 57th Street-7th Avenue to Queensboro Plaza Canal Street (tunnel level)-Coney Island runs Canal Street (tunnel level)-Coney Island ONLY!! Both lines replace the in lower Manhattan and run via the tunnel. Single-track express shuttles from from Canal Street (Bridge Level)-34th Street Herald Square in both directions on both express tracks, stopping only at Union Square en route. runs in two sections: 242nd Street-Van Cortlandt Park-96th Street (terminates on southbound local track at 96th) (Note: Northbound trains run express only between 96th and 137th Street. A special OOS transfer is available to downtown trains at 137th) 18th Street (northbound track)-South Ferry (Note: Southbound trains run express ONLY between 14th and Chambers Street, change at Chambers for local service to such stations affected) runs via Lexington Avenue between 149th Street and Nevins Street runs in two sections: 148th Street-72nd Street (express going downtown on the uptown express track, stops at 79th and 86th Street going uptown as it is on the uptown local track in that direction) 14th Street in Manhattan to New Lots Avenue, Brooklyn Single track shuttle operates on the southbound local track in both directions between 14th Street and 34th Street-Penn Station runs Dyre Avenue-East 180th Street ONLY!! (Note: When capacity allows, runs normal route). TS-GC Shuttle is suspended. terminates at Grand Central with LIMITED service to 5th Avenue. Wallyhorse Posted November 23, 2014 Share #4506 Posted November 23, 2014 No Service Between Broadway Junction and 8th Avenue Manhattan L Trains terminate at 14th Street-8th Avenue on the 8th Avenue line L runs via Nassau Street & 8th Avenue. Switching onto the Jamaica Line at Broadway junction and making all stops to Delancey-Essex. Switches onto the 6th Avenue line via M. Switches onto 8th Avenue at W. 4th Street. Terminates at 14th Street-8th Avenue on A express tracks and relays below 34th to make the return trip. Shuttle buses replace the L between Broadway Junction and 8th Avenue along normal L route. YES THIS CAN BE DONE Not without severely disrupting the at 14th, plus there are no switches there. The would have to run at AT LEAST Columbus Circle to do what you suggested. A more likely scenario for your plan would be for the to (from 168th) after West 4th (going southbound) run via the and then to Broadway Junction and from there via and replacing the to Rockaway Parkway. Flooding shuts down the 60th Street tunnels for the N/Q/R 63rd Street Tunnels F 53rd Street Tunnels E/M So the above lines cannot enter manhattan or enter queens Reroute/Suspend I'm going to assuming this will be a multi-day shutdown for this purpose as the tunnels will have to be checked before they can be used again: runs Jamaica Center-23rd Street (Court Square) ONLY (local all the way)! runs 57th Street-6th Avenue to Coney Island ONLY!! (Note: Some trains terminate at 2nd Avenue OR Delancey Street) is extended to 179th Street and replaces the in Queens. runs normal route to 47th-50th and then via to 57th Street OR via the and to Columbus Circle, where it terminates in either case (alternating trains). runs in two sections: Ditmars Boulevard-Astoria to Queensboro Plaza 60th Street-Lexington Avenue to Coney Island (flooding is far enough away from Lexington Avenue to allow service to continue there). runs 57th Street-7th Avenue-Coney Island ONLY runs from Canal Street (Tunnel Level)-95th Street ONLY! Passengers looking for lower Manhattan from the Broadway Line either can transfer at Canal Street to the or OR are asked to take the Lexington Avenue or Broadway-7th Avenue line if possible.

But then to maintain frequent service on the Line you would have to throw the to Euclid, The also would have to run either Local or express one way to/from Carnarsie. Or the could be suspended whole and have the Cover the on central park west and the below 59th Street. There's alot of possibilities by throwing the into Manhattan Via the Line.

The most that can happen is the ends at Broadway Junction. And of course the M14 and shuttle buses. YES THIS CAN BE DONE No it can't be done... Anything switching from 6 Av to 8 Av at W 4 St MUST run local all the way up to AT LEAST 59 St before it can turn back since there's no switches for it to do so. Even running it up there is gonna cause more delays since its gonna tie up CPW traffic. Instead of doing all that, just suspend service north of Myrtle Av.
Javier Posted November 23, 2014 Share #4512 Posted November 23, 2014 There is a Wide-Spread blackout in the Bronx, shutting off all major Subway Trains. Fresh Pond Posted November 24, 2014 Share #4513 Posted November 24, 2014 You more or less answered your own proposal... South Ferry to 168 St Flatbush Av to 149 St-Concourse, some trains to Harlem-148 St Utica Av to 125 St, Woodlawn to Burnside Av suspended Brooklyn Bridge to 3 Av-138 St

That was my point when I replied to this, which is why I mentioned the scenario. Most likely, however, it would be no different than other G.O.s where the ended on the platform at Broadway Junction.

Wallyhorse Posted November 24, 2014 Share #4516 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) a track collapses on the Broadway line at Herald Square and falls onto the 6th Avenue line and Herald Square is impassible. Lines Affected B/D/F/M/N/Q/R Suspend/Reroute away! Think we've done similar before, but here goes (Note: I'm assuming for this trains CAN NOT use the interlocking between 34th and 42nd due to power having to be shut off): starts southbound at West 4th Street and is extended to Coney Island to replace the (which is completely suspended) in Brooklyn, running at ALL TIMES (including weekends and overnights) as a Brighton local during this time. runs via 8th Avenue express between Canal Street and 145th Street runs in two sections: 2nd Avenue station-205th Street via 8th Avenue and Central Park West Local (replacing the and along CPW) West 4th Street-Coney Island via regular route (transfer between trains at West 4th or Broadway-Lafayette). runs via 8th Avenue express between Canal and 42nd Streets, normal route otherwise. Single-track shuttle train operates between Canal Street and Spring Street.. runs via 8th Avenue local and 53rd Street tunnel between West 4th Street and Roosevelt Avenue (local on Queens Boulevard). Single-track shuttle runs between 42nd Street-6th Avenue and 7th Avenue-53rd Street (on the downtown express track) in both directions. is re-routed via Nassau Street, the Montauge Tunnel and 4th Avenue Local to 95th Street-Bay Ridge to replace the in Brooklyn. runs in two sections: Ditmars Boulevard-Astoria to 57th Street-7th Avenue Canal Street (Tunnel Level)-Coney Island (replaces the in lower Manhattan). Single track shuttles run on both sets of tracks between Canal Street (bridge level) and 14th Street-Union Square (stopping at 8th and Prince Streets). runs from 47th-50th Street (and is extended) to 179th Street via 6th Avenue and the 63rd Street tunnel to 36th Street, from where it runs local.
