FamousNYLover Posted February 26, 2017 Share #5630 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Anyway, next up: A sinkhole develops under the tracks at the Times Square station, completely closing the station. It's a small sinkhole, enough to close that station but NOT the 6th or 8th Avenue stations on 42nd Street. This will take a month to fix. Trains can't use the switches between 34th and 42nd on the Broadway and Broadway-7th Avenue Lines. : No trains between 5th Av & 34th St-Hudson Yard. Shuttle Bus service will be provided. : Trains run in 2 sections. 1. Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 57th St-7th Av. 2. Wallyhorse Posted February 27, 2017 Share #5632 Posted February 27, 2017 Where has all the plausibility/imagination gone? This thread was dead for a long time before I brought it back. At least I'm looking for somewhat realistic scenarios that can happen. Speaking of which, next: A construction accident in the vicinity of the World Trade Center has knocked out power from Vesey Street south to Morris Street and from Broadway to the Hudson River. The Chambers Street station can be used, but other areas south of there can not, including the Joralemon tunnel BUT the Montauge tunnel can ONLY be used by the Nassau Line as that portion of the tunnel and all points south of where the Nassau portion breaks off is unaffected by this.

You might want to draw a perimeter over a map since you gerrymandered the crap out of that.
Wallyhorse Posted February 27, 2017 Share #5634 Posted February 27, 2017 You might want to draw a perimeter over a map since you gerrymandered the crap out of that. Was just seeing how it could work because crazy stuff like I posted can happen. Going to re-do it, however: A construction accident in the vicinity of the World Trade Center has knocked out power from Vesey Street south and from Broadway west to the Hudson River. The Clark Street Line is unaffected by this as it barely skirts the area that loses power, however, all of the other lines from Broadway and points west that have to go through there have lost power (though the Nassau Line can use the Montauge Tunnel since the outage only cut off power to the area immediately south of Whitehall before the two areas south of Whitehall Street merge). Likewise, the crossover north of Borough Hall in the Joralemon tunnel can be used since only the area immediately south of Bowling Green (including South Ferry) lost power in that tunnel.

richardye1 Posted February 28, 2017 Share #5636 Posted February 28, 2017 Terrorists somehow hack into all of the NTTs in the system, rendering them useless. All of the NTT's are permanently disabled, leaving you with roughly 1,100 cars for the A division, and 1,700 cars for the B division. How would you alter train service?

Wallyhorse Posted March 9, 2017 Share #5645 Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) Something a little less crazy:The Canal street complex from Broadway to Lafayette Street suffers a power outage due to a transformer explosion that will take at least a day to fix, knocking out service to and from that station on the Broadway, Lexington and Nassau Street Lines (the Manhattan Bridge is unaffected by this). CenSin Posted March 10, 2017 Share #5650 Posted March 10, 2017 Next (autumn season): An old mentally unsound lady was collecting wet leaves (instead of bottles and cans) in the middle of the foggy night on the active Brighton Line. Lucky for her, massive train congestion prevented the usual train traffic from traversing the line for a few hours. By the time she gets up off the tracks and onto the Newkirk Plaza station, decides it’s all pointless and scatters all of her garbage bags full of wet leaves thoroughly. By AM rush normal train service should have resumed, but they discover that Newkirk Plaza is impassable due to leaves completely covering all of the tracks.
