Wallyhorse Posted March 16, 2017 Share #5677 Posted March 16, 2017 Then doesn’t the switch get taken out of service to get fixed? No Forest Hills-bound or Jamaica-bound service through Queens Plaza in this case. The idea is trains can run, but they simply won't allow the trains to go to anything but the express track. Here goes: A completely unexpected ice storm (1"+ of freezing rain) hits but the lines are still fully operational, but then, the following happens: A train goes BIE right as it was switching from the local to the express track between Parkside Avenue and Prospect Park going northbound A train goes BIE right at the switch to where it merges into the 4th Avenue line south of 36th Street A broken rail occurs just into the 11th Street cut towards the QB line from the 60th Street tunnel The switch that has trains merging from the 63rd Street Tunnel to the QB line is stuck where trains must go express. The switch that allows trains to move from the express to the local track at Queens Plaza is stuck where trains must go express. Reroute as needed.

I get the idea (kinda obvious), but logically, it cannot be replaced repaired while it is being used. I take it for the it's going manhattan bound so reroute trains via the line northbound and for (D)'s stuck on west end pretty much service is suspeneded as for trains as a result train service is suspended and trains rerouted via line and service suspeneded for trains still on brighton Edited March 22, 2017 by BreeddekalbL

I'll just copy my response lol terminates in Manhattan at either 2nd Av or Chambers (shuttle bus W4 to Grand) and a shuttle train operates between Coney Island and 9th Av. terminates at Kings Highway via Montague and Brighton Express and a shuttle train operates Coney Island to 8th Av. terminates at Atlantic-Barclays via Bridge. What would you do? Edit: Weekend G.O. Assuming only the outer tracks at DeKalb Avenue is in service… And since the MTA has demonstrated the rare move of bringing a weekday-only service to the weekends… runs in 2 segments: from Bronx to 2 Avenue; and from 9 Avenue to Coney Island. runs from 8 Avenue to Coney Island runs from Forest Hills to Jay Street–MetroTech runs from Astoria to South Ferry

Never mind the fact that the buildings up above would be unstable since the foundations go through the station. Good point. I suspect there would no service on either line for a long time. Anyway, next: Switches in the area between Queens Plaza and 36th Street on the QP line (specifically where the joins the line from Queensbridge) have gone totally haywire, making it impossible to run any trains in that area (trains can use the Queens Plaza station itself, however, as long as the go back from there the other way as those switches are unaffected).
