Reroute away. Very similar to an earlier situation I did: , , and run to Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center ( on regular platform for that line) shuttle bus from Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center to Franklin Avenue-Botanic Garden shuttle Franklin Avenue-Flatbush Avenue shuttle Franklin Avenue-New Lots Avenue runs with to South Ferry (some trains drop out at Rector Street and use the old SF loop to turn) runs in the following manner: From Prospect Park: to Coney Island via regular route and then after Brighton Beach, then through Coney Island via Sea Beach Express to 59th Street OR West End express to 36th Street, then via the (D)/ OR to DeKalb and then via regular route. To Prospect Park: Via regular route to DeKalb Avenue, then via the (D)/ or to 36th or 59th Street, then via Sea Beach Express or West End Express (opposite of whichever route from Prospect Park uses) to Coney Island and then through Coney Island via the to Brighton Beach and regular route to Prospect Park. Special five-car, 300' shuttle trains operate Coney Island-Botanic Garden station, terminating on the Prospect Park-bound side. Transfer to/from shuttle buses there. Regular is reduced to a single, two-car train that operates from the Franklin Avenue-bound platform at Botanic Garden to Franklin Avenue and back single tracked. Wallyhorse Posted May 12, 2012 Share #683 Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Since no one has posted here in a couple of days: Because of a mechanical problem, both downtown local tracks are unusable at W4 St Here goes with how I handle this: is suspended One of the Transit Museum tracks is cleared (with such train stored elsewhere) to allow trains to use the Transit Museum to turn in Brooklyn as trains run in Brooklyn only from Hoyt-Schemerhorn Street-Euclid Avenue, stopping at Hoyt-Schermerhorn on the normally unused track/platform there. Downtown runs local from 34th-West 4th (uptown runs normal), switching to the express track before West 4th. trains run via the to 34th Street-Herald Square, terminating on the downtown express track. to Brooklyn runs via the from 5th Avenue to 50th Street-8th Avenue, then via the to Jay Street-Borough Hall and then regular route to Coney Island. There is normal service to Manhattan and Queens. runs Metropolitan Avenue-Essex Street Shuttle bus service between West 4th and Essex-Delancey stopping at Broadway-Lafayette Streets, 1st and 2nd Avenues on Houston Street and Essex-Delancey Streets only. Next: Due to separate rail conditions on the outer ("local") tracks at DeKalb Avenue in both directions, trains can only access the Manhattan Bridge in both directions from the bypass tracks (the "express," or tunnel tracks are not affected by this, and because of this emergency, 600' trains are permitted to use the (J)/ tracks via the Montauge tunnel between Broad Street and Essex and the Willamsburg Bridge to access the 6th Avenue line tracks if necessary). Wallyhorse Posted May 12, 2012 Share #685 Posted May 12, 2012 Its better (and more realistic) run the to Chambers St instead of the Transit Museum, isnt it? Not when you have the and (to Brooklyn) trains running between Canal and West 4th on the one track. Those two trains by themselves take up all the capacity the Cranberry tunnel has to Brooklyn. That's why I clear out one of the TM tracks so the can use that to turn and otherwise run Hoyt-Schermerhorn to Euclid Avenue.

Eric B Posted May 13, 2012 Share #692 Posted May 13, 2012 Due to separate rail conditions on the outer ("local") tracks at DeKalb Avenue in both directions, trains can only access the Manhattan Bridge in both directions from the bypass tracks (the "express," or tunnel tracks are not affected by this, and because of this emergency, 600' trains are permitted to use the (J)/ tracks via the Montauge tunnel between Broad Street and Essex and the Willamsburg Bridge to access the 6th Avenue line tracks if necessary). Ever since they reconfigured the area around Essex, I had figured a scenario where both the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges were closed. You would reverse signal J1 from Essex through Canal. Southbound 6th Ave. trains could then reverse in the station, instead of going out onto the bridge. The platform could even be extended back to the reverse signal (Which is now a marker, but would be replaced by a regular home signal). You would have to knock out about 10-15 feet of the concrete, but the columns could probably stay. The wall actually diverges from the track, so the further toward the signal you go, the more space you would have for the platform, and you would't have to knock out any more wall. The train would neatly fit between that signal, and the other end of the station, where a 10 car marker would be added. So it would come in on BJ1 and head back out on J1, and cross over to the southbound between Canal and Chambers, and then continue through Montague. Northbound would just come in on J4, as the now does, also reverse in the station, and then cross over to BJ2. That side of the platform could also be extended, and a station dept. room would have to be demolished. The only problem would be crossing over each other near Chambers.

Here goes: runs local from 168th Street-145th Street, express otherwise in Manhattan. runs Bedford Park Boulevard OR 145th Street to 42nd Street-6th Avenue ONLY (terminating on express track) stops on local track at 42nd Street, then returns to express track. also runs local on CPW to 145th Street. runs express with 34th Street-West 4th Expect delays on lines due to track switching made necessary by this. terminates at Union Square is re-routed via 8th Avenue from West 4th Street-5th Avenue, then regular route. is suspended in Manhattan. For service to or from Spring, 23rd Street or 50th streets to CPW and upper Manhattan local stations, take the or train ( to/from 23rd or 50th only in terms of local stations) to 7th Avenue and change there for the or , which both run local to 145th Street. Wallyhorse Posted May 13, 2012 Share #699 Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) I SAID NO FOAMING Not foam when you are looking at how you can keep as much service as possible. If it is possible to have the continue in Manhattan without interfering with the and in this case, then I would have the continue in Manhattan. One rule I would have with the TM station is when needed to turn trains, one of the tracks can be cleared in order to facilitate such. If I could do it before getting to the Museum tracks, I would otherwise because I would NOT want to do that unless needed in order to keep local service on the and express on the in Brooklyn in an emergency like the one presented. Remember, I'm looking at the overall picture, which has ZERO to do with foaming. Anyway, next up: The "Express" tracks ( (4)/ ) at Nevins Street are unusable due to a derailment inside the station, however, the local ( (2)/ ) tracks are unaffected by such.
