Subway - What If?

VWM

Recommended Posts

Due to a bomb threat, the Lower Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn subway lines are shut down.

From Prince Street (all of Manhattan south of Prince Street) to Vanderblit Street and Union Street (all of Brooklyn northwest of the 2 locations.)

Affected lines-

(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)(F)(G)(J)(M)(N)(Q)(R)(Z)(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)

The subway would probably be shut down now, but I felt like posting this scenario. :P

That's essentially every damn line in the system!

Shut down the subway. Done.

Look, enough with irrational scenarios/responses. Here is a good scenario, no foam.

NEXT:

What's the problem with just suspending the (C) and running (A) trains local and via the (F) between W4th and Brooklyn?

- Send the (C) via the (J), and run it express in peak direction? Extend the Rockaway Park Shuttle along the express tracks to Broadway Junction??

The reason I send the (C) via the (M) and (J) to Broadway Junction AND express in the peak direction has to do with making that a bypass of lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn for people looking for Lefferts and the Rockaways with only one transfer. Those specifically looking for lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn from Midtown have other options, including from the (A) transferring to the (2)/ (3) at Chambers-Park Place taking the (C) to Broadway-Lafayette and switching to the (F) there. Those looking for stations past Hoyt-Schermerhorn on the (A) from Manhattan can either take the (C) to the (F) and then to the (A) at Jay Street (in both transfer cases, a same or cross-platform transfer) OR take the (C) to Broadway Junction and backtrack on the (A) from there.

The (S) in this scenario replaces the (A) as the Rockaway Line as ALL Brooklyn (A) trains would go to Lefferts. That is to distinguish the two trains at Broadway Junction since the (S) would be on the express track and the (A) would be on the local track there during this particular scenario.

No trains can go down Rockaway.

Be more specific, please!

I'll do what I can.

(A): Trains split b/w Howard Bch-JFK & Lefferts Blvd.

(S): Use free shuttle buses running in two segments:

Howard Beach-B. 90th Street

Rockaway Park-Far Rockaway

Transfer b/w shuttle buses at B. 90th Street.

I mean the Rockaway Branch. Where it branches out at Rockaway Blvd. That is the ONLY Rockaway. Smh. Simple as this.

(A) To Lefferts Blvd

(C) Extended to Lefferts Blvd

NOTE

(A) Some trains run Express from 80 St, Hudson St to Lefferts Blvd

(A) Some trains run Express from Rockaway Blvd to Lefferts Blvd

Next: A (5) train goes too fast on the Bowling Green Loop and derails. At the same time, the (S) platforms are being extended, so no trains can travel to or west of Franklin Ave. Trains CAN use the switches between Eastern Parkway and Franklin Ave.

(2) to Eastern Parkway

(3) to Times Square or South Ferry

(4) to Brooklyn Bridge or Atlantic Av

(5) to Atlantic Av

(S) Flatbush Av - President St

Shuttle buses between President St and Atlantic Av

I'm assuming for this the (5) train derailed from the downtown platform at Bowling Green and that platform is unusable (but trains can use the uptown platform to turn using the crossover south of Wall Street, but can not pick up passengers there) and the (S) platform being extended is the one at Botanic Garden on that (S) so that when needed, the (Q) or (B) can terminate there (on both platforms with crossovers to the Prospect Park-bound-side from the Franklin Avenue-bound side), and that work necessitates that trains on the (2)/(3)/(4)/(5) not pass under the actual station, other than to switch over:

(2) runs in two sections:

241st Street-Eastern Parkway

Franklin Avenue or President Street-Flatbush Avenue (depending on whether the Franklin Avenue platform can be used)

(3) runs in two sections:

148th/Lenox-14th Street or South Ferry (alternate trains to South Ferry, running local after 14th Street southbound)

Utica, Franklin or Nostrand Avenue-New Lots Avenue (some (3)s in Brooklyn terminate at Utica, others at Nostrand, if the Franklin Avenue platform can be used, all (3)s in Brooklyn terminate at Franklin Avenue).

A special OOS transfer between the (3) at Junius Street and (L) at Livonia Avenue is available throughout this interruption

Shuttle buses operate between Eastern Parkway and either Franklin Avenue OR a split between Nostrand or Utica Avenue and President Street, depending on whether the Franklin Avenue platform can be used.

(4) runs Woodlawn-Wall Street or Brooklyn Bridge

Downtown (5) trains operate via the (2) to Atlantic Avenue and terminate there.

Uptown (5) trains begin at Atlantic Avenue and operate normally otherwise except for skipping Bowling Green.

Franklin Avenue (S) replaced by buses while construction at Botanic Garden takes place.

A 12-9 at Bergen Street closed the main level completely, but the lower level of the station can be used for trains to pass through. At the same time, the switches to the 6th Avenue line in Manhattan at both 53rd and 63rd are out southbound.

Wut? There's a lower level at Bergen Street? I'm going to assume you mean the express tracks...

Bergen Street:

(2): Via (5) line in both directions b/w Franklin Avenue & Atlantic Avenue.

(3): Runs South Ferry-148th Street via Express in Manhattan.

(4): Normal service,

(5): Terminates at Bowling Green southbound.

6th Avenue Line:

(F): Via (R) line southbound b/w 36th Street, Queens and 36th Street, Brooklyn, then via West End Express to Coney Island.

(M): Chambers Street-Metro Avenue. Transfer to northbound (F) at Essex Street for 6th Avenue line service. (E) trains run local during this time.

Because the MTA did not repair the Viaduct in time, Smith St to 4 Av collapses. Reroute the (F)(G).

... <_<

(G):

Uses G.O. service plan for Hoyt-Schemerhorn Sts-Court Sq Service.

(F): Runs in two sections:

Ditmas Avenue-Coney Island

Euclid Avenue-179th Street.

(C) service terminates at 2nd Avenue during this time. (F) service is also reduced to 12 TPH in the main section, and 8 TPH in the Culver section.

Next: A bunch of rocks fall on the Brighton Line Near Prospect Park

The Shuttle tracks are unaffecfted

Tracks 2&3 are affected close to Parkside

Tracks 1&4 are affected at the Switching of Prospect

Then the whole line is screwed...

(B): Terminates at 2nd Avenue, Manhattan. Transfer to (Q).

(Q): Terminates at Atlantic Avenue. Use free shuttle buses b/w Atlantic Avenue & Coney Island.

Random rocks just fall? I believe that we shouldn't be worried about re routing subway service and more focused on the fact that the apocalypse Is happening.
