Service Change  Posted: 08/19/2015  9:40PM

Due to a train with mechanical problems at South Ferry, the following service changes are in effect:

1.png trains are bypassing South Ferry in both directions.

Some northbound 2.png and 3.png trains are running local from Chambers St to 96 St.

Allow additional travel time.

In few moments the fastrack starts.

(1) running through SF on the inner loop?

Due to Con Ed related power problems at Bowling Green, the following service changes are in effect:

Southbound 4.png and 5.png trains are terminating at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Bowling Green.

5.png trains are running on the 2.png line from Nevins St to 149 St-Grand Concourse in both directions.

Northbound 4.png trains are terminating at Atlantic Av-Barclays Center.

2.png3.png4.png and 5.png trains are running with delays in both directions.

As an alternative customers can take the 2.png3.pngb.pngn.pngq.png and r.png.

Allow additional travel time.

They turned a (4) from Woodlawn at Burnside, which is an incredible waste of capacity and leaves people stranded unnecessarily. They're probably turning some (4) trains at 149th, along with some (6) trains at 3rd Av, some (2) and (5) trains at E180 and probably dropping some (3) train and Nereid (5) runs too.

Good thing I made it to the Bronx when this mess started.

Oh, ConEd.  The (M) / (R)  changes aren't power-related.

Due to Con Ed power issues affecting signal power inside the Joralemon Tube, the following service changes are in effect:

Some southbound 4.png and 5.png trains are terminating at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Bowling Green.

Some 5.png trains are running on the 2.png line from Nevins St to 149 St-Grand Concourse in both directions.

Northbound 4.png trains are terminating at Atlantic Av-Barclays Center.

As an alternative customers can take the 2.png, 3.png, b.png, n.pngq.png and r.png.

2.png3.png4.png5.png trains are running with delays.

Allow additional travel time.

Due to signal problems at Elmhurst Av, the following service changes are in effect:

Metropolitan Av-bound m.png and southbound r.png trains are running with delays.

Some Metropolitan Av-bnd m.png trains are running on the j.png line from Delancey St-Essex St to Chambers St and terminate.

Allow additional travel time.

This is how service ran in Brooklyn during the Power Outage. (2)(3) normal. (5) local in Brooklyn then via (2) and vice versa. The (4) was not running at all in Brooklyn which was contrary to the MTA website which said that northbound trains were turning at Atlantic.there was NO express service in Brooklyn at all.People at Altlantic (including me) were waiting on the express tracks for no reason. The countdown clocks actually said "Train Schedule is not available.I know the MTA is thinking "Why run a shuttle no one will take it" But during rush hour it's a different story..,They should have ran a shuttle between Utica and Atlatic. It would have lessened the crowds on the Brooklyn trains. The only thing that was good about it was that there was no bottlenecking at Nostrand Junction.

They Proboblay don't think it's worth it ,but during rush hour I think it is.Maybe they thought it would end earlier. But they are very resistant to run (4) service in Brooklyn If if can't get into Manhattan.

Which is very short-sighted.  Even if you don't start until Borough Hall, that part of Brooklyn has enough ridership to warrant doing so.

Plus, you would remedied other problems in Brooklyn as well, especially since those who took the Broadway line to Court Street and could change there to the (4).

Borough Hall still has the (2)(3) and rerouted (5). There's no need to run an express shuttle train on the Eastern Parkway Line unnecessary.

Main problem is, you had people on the express platform at Atlantic apparently specifically waiting for the (4) as noted, plus if you could get the (4) to Borough Hall, it was worth doing because people looking for the (4) coming from the (R) at Court Street if they knew the (4) would be there.

Nonsense. There are simple ways to handle situations like this one yesterday. The walk from the (R) to the (2)(3) is shorter because all they have to do is just walk up the stairs and head straight at Atlantic (and I think Borough Hall too). All riders on Eastern Parkway still had service at every station, aside from the aforementioned issue with the Lex.

The problem is trains were packed to the brim.If there would have been a (4) shuttle there would have been not as packed trains.Run it every 10 min till the problem clears.only because it was rush hour they should have done it.Otherwise no.

Alot more people are headed towards the Flatbush and New Lots branches than they are towards Utica. Utica is the busiest Brooklyn IRT station (aside from Borough Hall and Atlantic), but if you combined all 7 stations on the Flatbush branch, as well as all the 7 stations on the New Lots branch (including Nostrand and Kingston), the (2)(3)(5) have heavier loads than the (4).

The (4) is heavy in the morning northbound from my experiences, but that's only because the high number of people going towards the Lex than 7th Ave. But either way, the Lex was affected and people trying to get from Brooklyn to the Lex still had to transfer like 2 times regardless of overcrowding anyway.

Due to signal problems at Times Square-42 St, the following service changes are in effect:

q.png trains are running between Whitehall St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in both directions.

Expect delays in n.png, q.png and r.png train service.

Allow additional travel time.

So the (Q) is running only toward Whitehall street?

Re Joralemon Tubes closure: What should've happened was that announcements should've been made at Atlantic Av that there was no service on the middle platform. As for a shuttle from Utica to Atlantic, that would've been beyond useless. Trains terminating at Atlantic would've been held by passengers looking for Manhattan-bound service. Sending that shuttle to Borough Hall may not have been an option since it appears the problem was on the Brooklyn end of the tunnels. Power may have shut off at that part of the station through the duration of the closure.

And by the way, few riders are transferring from the (4) to the (R) or vice-versa. With both lines a block or so apart from Atlantic Av, Brooklyn to 14 Street, it wouldn't make sense to transfer between lines.

Yeah. That's also why I said that running a (4) shuttle in Brooklyn is unnecessary. The (2)(3)(5) would still be crowded anyway for all the reasons I've stated on the previous page, despite what Wallyhorse and Appa have been saying. The only people who would be on that (4) shuttle are those trying to get to the Lex, and that leads to the problems described above this post. Not really much you can do much about overcrowding or whatever during this situations like this anyway.

Service Change  Posted: 08/22/2015 12:58PM

Due to switch problems at Briarwood, the following service changes are in effect:

There are no e.png trains between Forest Hills-71 Av and Parsons Blvd-Archer Av in both directions.

There are no f.png trains between Forest Hills-71 Av and Jamaica-179 St.

For service to Jamaica Center, customers can take the Q60 bus making nearby station stops.

For service to 179 St, customers can take the Q60 to the Q43 or Q44 buses.

Allow additional travel time.

Imagine this happening on a weekday. :o

Due to switch problems at Briarwood, e.png trains are running with extensive delays in both directions.

Also, expect delays in f.png and r.png train service.

Allow additional travel time.
