RSMG106 Posted February 16, 2023 Share #4401 Posted February 16, 2023 4009 at Manhattanville has it's farebox removed. With 9908 at the depot, it will possibly be retired or sent to Bus Co.

The MTA should have just elected to retire #3800-4278 first.
TheMTAEmprie Posted February 16, 2023 Share #4405 Posted February 16, 2023 There's no reason to retire #4500s as if there is no tomorrow when they are barely 12-13 years old.

I'm not 100% sure on MTA retirement policies but someone can put a better explanation on this than me. I'm not entirely sure if this is trully mileage based as if it were, the #3800s would have been gone by summer 2022.

They most likely will as JFK is the only depot that has any of those units right now. It really does depend as some of the hybrids rack more mileage than others. It also depends on the condition of the bus as some buses wear down faster than others. Its why you’re seeing some 3900s last longer than some 4600s or how some 4100s were axed but some OG hybrids are still around. Or how some 1996 RTS units lasted longer than some buses that were built years later. Its nothing new with the TA.

The 1997 Novabus RTS's were basically killed off by the 2014-15 New Flyer XD40s , the last of which retired around early 2018. The last 1996s retired by early 2019. Hell, when you think about it, the 1996 Novabus RTS's outlived the 2003 Orion 7.501 OG CNGs and almost outlived the 2004-05 ones as well.

Calvin Posted February 17, 2023 Share #4412 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Going back to the Transitman0251 's post, 4126 and 4252 are now officially retired from service. They have their fareboxes pulled out and spotted as there were recent arrivals such as 9907 and 9790 in service. They also have no MHV stickers placed and won't be heading to MTA Bus. For now: 4009 (pending movement), 4040, 4053, 4072, 4250, 4261, 4264, 4266, 4357 (9 units) are what's left for departure out of MHV. Although, those aren't scrapped yet. Just a pointer in keeping count with the HEV delivery status. 11 more HEV's left to arrive. Edited February 17, 2023 by Calvin

Buses are expected to be in service at least 12 years and afterwards they can be retired if necessary. All the Orion VII NG’s are at retirement age at this point and I’ve heard these buses weren’t the best when it came to quality which is why Orion VII OG’s are outliving buses that are two to three years newer. I honestly wish MTA bus didn’t have to get NYCT’s crap and just had new buses set to replace the OG’s instead of this whole transfer situation.

Whether it’s retired or pending transfer to MTA Bus Company, it appears like it won’t be in passenger service at Manhattanville again.

Wow, the O7 era in this city is quickly coming to a close.

Based on what I'm reading about MTA BC's new bus procurements, this could very well be the last time NYCTA send their old fleets to BC, because after this, 400+ new Clean Diesels are headed their way, not even including the 37 pending Artics or the 200+ new CNGs. There will no longer be a need for that.

Kingsbridgeviewer382 Posted February 19, 2023 Share #4420 Posted February 19, 2023 (edited) Okay, so I took a look at the Eastchester scrap lot earlier today. Like usual, there WILL BE REPEAT mentions from other users but here's what I saw at the lot: Scrap (Coaches): 2214, 2225, 3016, 3024, 3029, 3039, 3141, 3145, 3167. On Hold: 2673 (One of several CAS Coaches that were damaged by Hurricane Ida). Training or misc: (4113 and 4443 are on the repair lot) 4533, 7454. *Those highlighted in bold were not on the scrap list in the first page. I posted the others just to clarify that they made it to the scrap lot and there were other buses I saw that I already mentioned in late January.
