I had my pre-employment and drug test yesterday. Got there around 7:45am for 8am appointment. Everything went smoothly just a long wait. I noticed around  11am/12pm people started coming in large numbers. All for different title’s. I got called back to the counter around 12:30 and my application was processed without any problems. I got to the lab around 2:15 then went home at 2:30. Of course they said it will be 3-90 days for a response, hopefully it won’t take that long. It seems like they are trying to expedite people quickly.
I did hear some people saying they were there for second drug test and re-submitiing application forms. But overall it wasn’t bad. Kudos to the staff that was running things smoothly and trying to accommodate everyone.

Depends on class to, since Monday is start of new class and class is about 2 months. So might be waiting a bit like myself. Unless they can have multiple classes but I doubt it.

You are not disqualified. You will be placed on medical hold if they suspect you may have sleep apnea. They will ask you to do a sleep study and you will either have sleep apnea or not. If you have it they will want you to get a machine and be on that machine for 30 days and have a doctor give you a letter stating that you are using the machine and that it is benefiting you and your condition.

I am currently on medical hold for sleep apnea. It has been a long long road. Currently waiting to be reinstated to the list so I can clear the hold.

It will just take some patience on your part and hope you get things done quicker than I have.

Good luck with that letter working.  The transit doctors will scrutinize everything.  When I was going through all of this, I had letters from my doctors saying everything was all good. But transit wants data. They leave no stone unturned. I had to go through multiple procedures and show cpap data (data that’s dated and showing how many apneas you are averaging per night with I think a 6 hour average usage per night) for either 30 or 90 days. I can’t remember. But a letter from your doctor saying it’s all good and it’s benefiting you isn’t going to work. I had to jump through hoops for those transit doctors to get this job. Worth it tho. Good luck.

Anybody got called for medical this week?

Yep, did mine Tuesday, was placed on medical hold due to being as bit on the larger side, so they gotta check If I have sleep apnea and all that, currently waiting on my insurance to give authorization to use the CPAP machine for a night to see if I need it for the whole 30 days or not.

Wont be able to join this class but hopefully the next one

Thanks for the info… so if I do get selected for the next class that will most likely be the end of June?
I currently work for another city agency and have 5 years in. I believe it’s tier 3, 63/10. So I have 5 more years until I’m fully vested. How does it work with transit? Someone told me you are fully vested after 5 years. How will my time transfer over to the MTA?

I would give NYCERS a call if you can, but from reading past posts about this, you will keep your tier and years of service (make sure to fill out the transfer form), but you will stick to Transit's 25 years of service/55 to retire plan. So my understanding is your five years will add to the 25 giving you 30 years on your pension.

You're right. The doctor will have to go through the cpap data in order to write you a letter. You'll also need to provide the cpap data as well as the letter to MTA.

Do any of you guys/girls know when will they release the next conductor exam for NYCT? How long will the current list stay active for until it’s nullified?

I'm not sure about future extensions but this current test was extended until next February.

Hello  everyone I have Been learning a lot of info from everyone on here with the whole conductor process. I did my OPA late January and now I have pre employment April 28. When I went to OPA I was dressed up and everyone was in casual street wear. For the pre employment. I can wear casual clothes and not have to be dressed up? It seems as if. That doesn’t matter from my first visit.

I've been to two pre employments so far 🥲 but I'm pretty sure I'm in the next class whenever that is. But yeah just dress up nice. I did slacks and a white T shirt last time I went.

Yea I figured that I was very curious on how they looked at people who showed up in casual street wear. Was the drug test at the same time or separate?

Pre-employment and drug test same day.

Nice. I herd others say it’s separate days so I’m hoping I don’t have to keep commuting and taking off work , but good luck man next class your in there don’t worry about it. Thanks for the info!

Hey guys

Can somebody explain the specifics of how it works for people with diabetes?

I'm a type 2 diabetic and my A1C is constantly on the line of 6.2 to 6.6.

I'm just curious what I might need when medical finally rolls around? Maybe I can prepare early. Thank you.

It shouldn't be a problem. If you're on medication then you will list it when they ask and that's it.
