R62A 1991 Posted January 24, 2010 Share #27 Posted January 24, 2010 More ideas. Q35|Bklyn College÷Nostrand Av Q35|via Flatbush Av M5|Greenwich Village÷Houston St M5|via Riverside Dr÷via 5 Av That one is a bit hard. Bx12|Pelham Bay÷Amendola Plz Bx12|via Fordham Rd÷via Pelham Pkwy B9|Marine Park÷Kings Plaza B9|via 60 St÷via Av L Only because it travels on Av L for more of a time than Av M. B11|Sunset Park÷1 Av-58 St B11|via 49 St B31|Gerritsen Beach÷Lois Av B31|via Gerritsen Av For the above, I assume this is a suburban route, and why it only has the neighborhood destination right now. B60|Canarsie÷Flatlands Av B60|via Wilson Av÷via Rockaway Av B57|Maspeth÷61 St B57|via Flushing Av B65|Ocean Hill÷Ralph Av B65|via Dean St S59|Tottenville÷Amboy Rd S59|via Richmnd Av÷via Hylan Bl X51|Aburndale÷165 St X51|via Sanford Av X63|Rosedale÷253 St-149 Av X63|via Merrick Bl X68|Floral Park÷268 St X68|via Hillside Av For the last three, again, I'm assuming that the reason they only display a neighborhood (except the X51) is because they're more suburban bus routes than say, the BM2 (which ironically, now displays my idea for their sign before they changed it). Shortline Bus Posted January 24, 2010 Share #32 Posted January 24, 2010 Ok my ideas for terminal signs. I like to see the (NYCT) do is what done already i seen in Stamford CT area on their CT buses, in San Diego on their buses and elsewhere. That is add major stops or major neighborhoods/landmarks mentioned also even if it's not a terminal in the 'via' section besides the primary road that route travels on. With that said here mines in no order. Not to mention adding the 'word' LOCAL on routes with both limited and local routes. Manhattan All of the Manhattan based local buses should add 'uptown' 'downtown' for the north-south lines and 'eastbound or 'westbound' for the crosstown. M2 Uptown "Madison Ave Limited' 168th St/ via Powell Blvd I think the hosptial should be mentioned and not 'washington heights' as i more think of "Washington Heights in area between the GWB area and 191 St. M2 Downtown 5th Ave Limited East Village Via Museum Mile M3 Uptown Madison Ave Local Ft George/191 St via St Nicholas M3 Downtown 5th Ave Local East Village-8th & 4th Ave via Museum Mile M101 Uptown 3rd Av Limited Ft George-191 St & Amsterdam via Amsterdam M101 Uptown 3rd Ave Local Ft George-191 & Amsterdam via Amsterdam M103 Uptown 3rd Ave Local East Harlem-125th St & Lex station M42 42nd Crosstown Hudson River piers-12 nd Ave via Grand Central via Times Square Brooklyn B15 "Bushwick' Woodhull Hosptial Flushing Ave Station Via Brookdale Hosp. They do it on a few routes which have alternate routings (Ex: s51 via Ft Wadsworth, via Hyland) But it should be more common, every route should have at least one via;)

B35 via Church Posted January 29, 2010 Share #42 Posted January 29, 2010 I disagree that every route's dest. sign should have a "via"... I say it should include the "via", for instance, if it travels almost (or literally) the full length of a particular road [ex. the B41, B68]... if a route stays on a particular road long enough (in terms of distance, in comparison to the length of its respective route) [ex. the B9].... routes that run on uni-directional streets for a good portion of the route [ex. the B11, B38]... or, of course, if a route has two branches or w/e [ex. the Q10]... I'm only talking about city routes, not suburban routes... ----------------- far as Shortline's post: When you mention "madison ave local" & "madison ave limited", that would resemble a subway train's destination signage... I don't think it's necessary... two, Washington heights is the area around 168th-181st... when you're in that area, you just know you're in washington hgts... can't quite describe it, it's one of those things you just get that sense when you're venturing in the area.... as far as "Museum Mile" goes, there are New Yorkers that don't know what, or where the hell that is... lol... they just might think the bus is detouring when they see that on the destination sign.... ...and your M42 dest. sign looks like something one of those double-decker tourist buses might read. The B15/47 one, eh... Woodhull is far more popular an attraction in the immediate area than the subway station is....
