Y2Julio Posted April 13, 2010 Share #201 Posted April 13, 2010 R44 being retired talks only. No R160 & R179 topics, questions about orders etc..etc..If you're really interested, use the search feature to find threads where those topics have been debated to death. Joe Posted April 14, 2010 Share #209 Posted April 14, 2010 Is there actually sufficient room in all the yards to store the trains?
Ms. W Supporter Posted April 15, 2010 Share #210 Posted April 15, 2010 Thats just sad! The first cars to bring an OVAL shaped car! R44 death so young young. These cars could of been in service now but they are being dumped to get more rust in them! I gotta get my rides and vids before they go! This is very sad. I thought these trains run fine. Sorry if this was answered somewhere, but why they have to get rid of them?? They seem so fine and not old to me. Will the MTA faze out all the trains we have now (except the new ones)? I don't know about anyone else but I like the diversity of train cars. I hope MTA doesn't make all train lines look the exact same. The monotony will drive me insane. And I truely don't want all "yellow/orange seated" trains to go away!

The R44 are being retired due to their car bodies.they may not look old to you,but they're at that retirement age. As for diversity, that might be gone within a few years. Without railcar diversity railfanning would be a bit dull.Eventually railfanners would have to resort to other cities to railfan or resort to busfanning since there is different types of buses to go around. It's sad,but that's the way things go.people have to change with the times, sooner or later something thats old has to be replaced with something new.just be glad the MTA saves some of the old subway cars for people and fans alike can see and ride them. Grand Concourse Posted April 16, 2010 Share #224 Posted April 16, 2010 yay! R46s [to me] are better overall imo. But I do like those 'glass' partitions on the R44s though. That's one thing I'll miss.
