Shortline Bus 1,121 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2010 Straphangers on the borough's IRT No. train are bracing for partial closures at the busy Parkchester station, starting next month. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will close the northbound side of the station during nonpeak hours April 10 for repairs and renovations, scheduled to take three months. The MTA will follow that in July with the closure of the southbound side during nonpeak hours for three months, as well. To help riders cope with the closures, the agency will offer free transfers on a local bus route to the next closest station. MattTrain 3,120 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 30, 2010 That station definitely needs a makeover, I'm glad it's being done this year, never mind the inconveniences it will cause. It'll be good in the long run for the riders.
NX Express 292 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2010 So northbound local trains will terminate at St. Lawrence Avenue during rush hours?
NYC Bus&Subway 0 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2010 Thats one busy station more than 168th I think. But I feel bad for the people who live near the station.
Luis1985 1 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 30, 2010 Either the Local will terminate at St. Lawrence Av, run it to Pelham Bay Park, or suspend * Express trains in both directions. *i doubt that.
LRG 217 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2010 Either the Local will terminate at St. Lawrence Av, run it to Pelham Bay Park, or suspend * Express trains in both directions. *i doubt that. Well the plan calls for the work to be done during non-rush hours so during rush hours only the will run then; during midday hours the would most likely be suspended. That's a great thing. That station is big and it should be equipped with ADA elevators. I just hope that service isn't affected too much by this the way that the is with that E 180th St project. mark1447 685 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 30, 2010 You can't install a elevator in three months. It shouldnt take 3months to build an elevator. It just take a few weeks. So northbound local trains will terminate at St. Lawrence Avenue during rush hours? Either the Local will terminate at St. Lawrence Av, run it to Pelham Bay Park, or suspend * Express trains in both directions. *i doubt that. Why end it there if it can still use Parkchester and relay, there is a junction north of Pkchester/westchester ave. Tho may cause some small delays on Pelham Exp __________________________________ "It's a huge inconvenience," said Deloris Jackson, 48, who lives 10 blocks away from the station and works as a nurse at Jacobi Medical Center. Amtrak7 427 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 30, 2010 How do you rebuild a platform if it has to be safe for revenue service twice a day? This can't be possible if they want a complete renovation.
R32 3348 11 Posted March 30, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 30, 2010 According to the (MTA)'s schedule (p27) of rehabbing stations, Parkchester and the other 3 Pelham stations being rehabbed will be done by November of next year. It doesn't say when Parkchester will become ADA though.

Those trains skipping E 177 St Parkchester (even though the MTA Trip Planner indicates that they stops there) will cut down on the and delays waiting to see which leaves 177 first. Pelham Bay Dave 124 Posted April 6, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 6, 2010 So will there still be reverse peak express between 9:00-11:00am? 6-9am regular express 9-10:30am local to Hunts Point, express to 3 Av 10:30am all local Its a good thing you asked that and looked closer at the schedule and now have to make a currection. There will be No Manhattan Bound Express service starts at 09:30AM the last Express is the 9:16 Pelham then every thing else will run local with the Parkchester service until the 3rd Ave service kicks in which will be at 10:30AM. Some of the Parkchester Lay Up will run Express from 3rd Ave to Hunt Pt then Discharge and run light to Westchester Yard. Downtown run between 6AM and 9:30AM Downtown Pelham and Parkchester to Brooklyn Bridge 9:30AM to 10:30AM 10:30AM to 3:00PM operate between Pelham Bay to Brooklyn Bridge / 3 AV-138 TO Brooklyn Bridge Uptown Between 9:30AM and 10AM some Uptown trains will be Hunts Point Bound Via Express 3 Av-138 to Hunts Point. 3PM service goes to Normal exept Parkchester service ends at St Lawrance. Rush Hours Parchester Service is Normal Downtown but Uptown trains will discharge at St Lawrance Ave.

It would make sense to discharge passengers on M track downtown side 9:30am-10:30am instead of having all trains bypass the station, unless MTA thinks people will be confused by this 1 hour pattern. Basically anything using M track uptown should stop, even if it is reverse peak express layups.
