East New York Posted December 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2010 Finally! ENY will undergo a long needed rehabilitation. I'm not sure what all will be done at this time, but the oldest depot is set to be updated by Febrary 2013. I have to say Surface Transit Headquarters is holding up pretty well to be 112 years old.

Fresh Pond Posted December 14, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 14, 2010 About damn time  Did they ever host trollies or streetcars there? - A That was the original use of it. It was a trolley & streetcar barn (the ENY train yard in the back was always there) then it became a bus depot when trolleys & streetcars were phased out

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted December 14, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2010 I wonder where their routes will go during the rehab And if I recall correctly, that depot houses quite a few lines with pretty heavy usage... Should be interesting.

Should be interesting. Thats a good question. If i was in charge of ops, I would send a few routes to FP, Grand, and Gleason. Spring Creek if possible. They run the few remaining lines that terminate in ENY. There are two lots for buses to park in, plus Jamaica Avenue. But I don't think the depot will close for this one. Read the title too fast....thought it said "East New York GOES to rehab! Lmao!! It's funny you say that because that's what I was going to title the thread at first!! Does anyone know what happened w/100st Depot? I remember hearing somewhere that bricks were falling onto the sidewalk a while back because the contractor that was hired did a poor job and the MTA was going after them. I believe now everything is okay there though. My uncle worked out of there for a bit doing the M101, 102, 103 runs and that place certainly needed the rehab. I also recall being inside of the MCH Depot before it was rehabbed years ago as a kid when riding w/my uncle. I think Castleton is long overdue for a rehab also. Not only is it run down, but the surrounding neighborhood would certainly benefit from the rehab. The one time I did pass by there it was clear that it is quite a depressed area over there in Port Richmond.
NovaBus 5121 Posted December 14, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 14, 2010 If Spring Creek becomes part of NYCTA soon, I can see a few routes moving there temporarily (while some of their express routes move elsewhere) like the B14,15, 20 and others while ENY gets the rehab. East New York Posted December 14, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted December 14, 2010 Good news for ENY but the next oldest depot is Jamaica right? So they should be next in line. That will be a rebuild, along with 126th Street and Hale. I think its too bad they can't just expand Jamaica. It's the oldest TA depot, and if they tear it down completely......... Where's the history? If Spring Creek becomes part of NYCTA soon, I can see a few routes moving there temporarily (while some of their express routes move elsewhere) like the B14,15, 20 and others while ENY gets the rehab. That would make sense.

I just said, "if" as in a possibility. I also doubt there would be in full closure for rehab as its still the headquarters and because its the cmf for mta bus (if I'm not mistaken).
