Subway - What If?

VWM

Recommended Posts

Another problem I had made up in my mind.

A bombing occured near Main St - Flushing station. Due to this the station has to be closed, and it's rush hour time. Reroute the (7)<7>.

(7) No service b/w Mets-Willets Point and Flushing-Main Street. Select trains terminate at Queensboro Plaza, Woodside, or 111 Street.

<7> Suspended, use (7).

During this time, there is a free fare at the Q48 bus stop.

LIRR honors Metrocards on all trains passing through Mets-Willets Point (stopping there) and the station closest to Main Street-Flushing past there.

I'd leave this to subway. I think shuttle buses are enough.

NEXT: A man has been fried by the third rail at Lex-59, knocking out power for the Broadway/59th Street tube between Queensboro Plaza and 49th Street. This has also knocked out power for Queens Plaza. Reroute the (N)(Q)(R)(E) and (M) trains.

(N) Would have to operate a shuttle Between Queensboro and Ditmars; and TSQ-42 to Coney Island.

(Q) via the (B) to 145 via Bridge and 6av Express.

(R) No service north of Whitehall

(E) to Court Square

(M) via (F) operates QBL local, via 63rd.

I don't see how you can get the (E) to Court Square if there is no power at Queens Plaza.

I see, I thought he meant Jamaica Ctr to Court Square (G).

Don't always be quick to respond, but think about it a little bit first.

NEXT

Due to a problem at 145 St (A)(B)(C)(D), no trains can go up the UWS to 168 St (A)(C) or 207 St (A). This is during rush hour, so only the (B) and (D) are allowed to serve Grand Concourse.

The (E) may sound foamerish, but if you think it makes sense.

(A) trains run from 34th Street to Lefferts/Rockaways

(C) suspended.

(E) trains run from Jamaica Center to Euclid, via Fulton Local.

Alternative Services:

Extra (1) service.

Extra (B) service.

Due to WTC work, no (1) trains can travel below Cortlandt Street. Figure out how to reroute, try not to use shuttle buses. And also, the switches at Chambers all point to Brooklyn, so trains can't terminate there. And 14 Street and 42 Street are not turning options. Be creative.

(1) Via 7th Avenue Express to 34 Street-Penn Station.

(2)(3) Via 7th Avenue Local.

(5) Select trains run to Rector Street via South Ferry Loop.

(R) Via Bridge - 6th Avenue Local - 63 Street.

(B) and (D) trains run local on Concourse and CPW. (A) trains terminate at 125th Street or 145th Street on the Concourse level. (C) trains operate between Chambers Street and Euclid Avenue. Trains running north of Chambers Street follow the (A) line change. Shuttle trains also operate between 168th Street and 207th Street signed as (A) trains. Use the (1) train for 155th Street and 163rd Street.

If you're going to run (3) trains at 7 TPH, you should send the (1) to New Lots (which also has a better capacity than Flatbush...)

My solution:

(1): Trains either terminate at 34th Street or Flatbush Avenue.

(2) & (3): Operate local in Manhattan south of 42nd Street.

1) 145 St to 207 St is impassible.

2) (A) trains can not terminate on the Concourse level during rush hour. There are (D) trains on the Express. And 125 St, same reason.

(B)(C) suspended

(D) via CPW local & Concourse local

(A) to Bedford Pk Blvd or Tremont Av via 8 Av/CPW and Concourse local

For service to 135 & 145 st should take the M3

Power outage along Sea Beach from Ft. Hamilton Pkwy to 86 St (86 St has power). Its 6 pm, trains are stuck in the no power zone, people are pissed off. What do?

Due to a problem at 145 St (A)(B)(C)(D), no trains can go up the UWS to 168 St (A)(C) or 207 St (A). This is during rush hour, so only the (B) and (D) are allowed to serve Grand Concourse.

(A) and (C) both run local between 59th-125th Street and terminate at 125th Street, with VERY LIMITED (C) service continuing to 135th Street.

(B) and (D) run express service from 59th-125th Street with as many extra trains as possible. Also, extra (1) service between Dyckman Street and Rector Street (such trains run through the old South Ferry loop and do not stop at SF).

Please expect delays since the (A) and (C) are both terminating at 125th Street.

Shuttle buses operate 207th Street-125th Street.

(D) no change

(M) Myrtle Shuttle until trains are moved, trains already running go to forest hills and go as (R) s to help QBL

People on the (M) trains will have to walk in the subway tunnel.

It's an emergency, I may go over 30tph.

(B) trains run from Bedford Pk Blvd to WTC via 8th Avenue Local.

(D) trains run in two sections, 205th to Canal (via 8th Avenue Express) and 57th Street (via broadway express and bridge) to Coney Island.

(F) trains run via Crosstown. (G) service suspended.

(M) runs via (J) from Essex to Chambers/Broad.

(M) trains on Queens Blvd run OOS via 8th Avenue local back to Fresh Pond Yard.

Aside from the passengers on those trains having to walk to the neaest emergency exits/stations, here's how I handle this:

(B) runs West 4th Street-Coney Island ONLY (select (B) trains operate to 34th Street)

(C) runs Euclid Avenue-Chambers Street (A) platform ONLY

(D) runs in two sections:

Via regular route from 205th Street-42nd Street/6th Avenue

Via Broadway Line from 57th Street/7th Avenue-Atlatic Avenue/Barclays Center, then via regular route to Coney Island

Special OOS transfer in effect between the two (D) lines at Columbus Circle, 7th Avenue/53rd Street, 42nd Street/6th Avenue on the 6th Avenue Line and 42nd Street/Broadway and 57th Street/7th Avenue on the Broadway Line

Extra (E) trains run to 179th Street in addition to normal service to Jamaica Center.

(F) runs in three parts on a rotating basis:

One-third of trains operate 179th Street to 42nd Street

One-third of trains operate West 4th or 34th Street-Penn Station-Coney Island

One-third of trains operate via the (G) from Roosevelt Avenue-Bergen Street, with such trains stopping at Queens Plaza and Court Square before proceeding to Bergen Street via the (G) and resuming regular route there to Coney Island.

(M) runs via the 8th Avenue line West 4th Street-53rd Street/5th Avenue. Select (M) trains are re-routed via the (C) 50th-168th Street on an as needed basis.
