MacAlert Posted December 8, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2011 I was on a Q17 heading to Flushing (9194) and noticed a security camera right above the front door. Are they going to be installing these on all buses?

'89 Liberty MCI Posted December 8, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2011 +1 for KeystoneRegional's post. It will eventually get to the point where every NYCT bus in passenger service has them. They are currently on many or all Orion 07.501 "VII" NG HEVs and Novabus TL60-102A "LFS" Artics. The older the bus and therefore (typically) the closer it is to retirement, the less likely maintenance is to install cameras in said bus since there would be no point. For example pre-2001 D60HFs will definitely not get them. RTSs look like they will be around a little longer despite their age, as I know of a few RTSs with cameras, including the 9194 you referenced. Future ENY OP Posted December 8, 2011 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2011 Did you also see a camera by the dashboard as you were boarding the bus? b/c if you did, they are implemting to put more cameras on buses for driver safety and unruly passengers who assualt drivers. Glad FINALLY that the MTA is focusing on driver safety.

'89 Liberty MCI Posted December 8, 2011 Share #7 Posted December 8, 2011 Orion VII NG HEVs have a camera high above the operator, on his/her left side wall. Next to the coat hooks.
Acela Express Posted December 8, 2011 Share #8 Posted December 8, 2011 Theres no dashboard cameras; only thing is the outside camera facing front viewing outside activity and the camera above the operator facing the front doors to record who's boarding. T J Trainman Posted December 8, 2011 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2011 9194 was at MJQ before it went to QV now its at JAM. Those cameras you saw are quite old. Case in point LGAs 8872, 8875, and 8987 still have those cameras as well.

gtNovaBusRTS9369 Posted December 9, 2011 Share #12 Posted December 9, 2011 Also NovaBus RTS-06 9138-9139 from QV have security cameras as well. I've always wondered whether they're actually activated..

Glad FINALLY that the MTA is focusing on driver safety. MTA should really stop being cheap SOBs and install those plexiglass partitions for all the buses. If I was a driver, I know I'd feel safer knowing that I'd have at least a thin shield [ie: sick riders sneezing/coughing/spitting etc]
East New York Posted December 10, 2011 Share #15 Posted December 10, 2011 Theres no dashboard cameras; only thing is the outside camera facing front viewing outside activity and the camera above the operator facing the front doors to record who's boarding. Actually, there are dash cams now. All new buses are to have 10 camera positions. 8 interior (one on dash), and 2 exterior.

Acela Express Posted December 25, 2011 Share #18 Posted December 25, 2011 I did notice a few more RTSs from Flatbush having those partitions installed when I was riding on the (B46) yesterday. All of our 5000s have partitions installed.
N6 Limited Posted December 25, 2011 Share #19 Posted December 25, 2011 OOOH, maybe they can use the cameras to monitor SRO conditions, and for the dispatcher to tell the driver not to flag passengers because there IS room in the back. B)
Future ENY OP Posted December 27, 2011 Share #20 Posted December 27, 2011 All of our 5000s have partitions installed. 8050 from UP also has the partition. Glad to see them on the 5000's. I did spot one on 5180 during the trial period while traveling from Kings Plaza either last year or early this year (Jan/Feb)
Acela Express Posted December 27, 2011 Share #21 Posted December 27, 2011 8050 from UP also has the partition. Yeah, I think 8036 or 8038 from Ulmer Park has the partition as well. The way it's setup on the Nova LFS seems like you're closed off completely. All you see is from the shoulders and up.
