sounds good. how long will we be there. just curious.

Remember ladies and gents. The MTA pays you for an minimum 40 hour work week. So your orientation, training, posting, you will be there for no less than 8 hours per work day.

But i know u said i wont  get where i want  since ill b new

Training won’t be 6 weeks. Due to the influx of new hires and class size, you won’t be in Track school that long. More like 3 weeks.

Are we allowed to bring a backpack to orientation/training? I don’t want to take a chance and drive there to find no parking so I’m taking the train and I really don’t want to be carrying stuff in my hand.

Yes. As a matter of fact i suggest you carry a large bag. Especially when you receive your gear.

Thanks man for the heads up

Will i need the big bag this first week

You’ll need it for the duration of training. So from day one till you are assigned to your quarters, you’ll be carrying something.

So guys for orientation should I dress business casual ?

And when training starts should I wear timberland construction boots, any shirt and  jeans?

Not trying to be a dick or anything but this question was asked just a few pages ago.

Casual clothing is fine for orientation. When school starts, jeans and boots/work shoes will work until you are issued your work boots. As far as shirts are concerned, you can wear anything that you would on the tracks. Long/short sleeve Ts, sweat shirt, etc.

For those who are already Track Workers, which specialist jobs do most new hires pick?

Are the jobs requiring a CDL less likely to be chosen by new hires?

As it stands, i wouldn’t really look to being able to get a specialist title for the next year or so. Since Track school isn’t how it used to be, you won’t qualify for any specialist title out the gate aside from the aforementioned CDL jobs. Apparently they are always looking for people with CDL licenses.

And like i mentioned earlier, because of the current hiring rush, you won’t be able to pick a specialist job during your mini pick. You’d have to wait for the general pick.

When I went on the Linden Yard tour this past Saturday (I was in the afternoon group wearing the "Cardozo Soccer" jacket), I asked the Superintendent about that and he said that if you have the license (which I happen to have), you might be able to get a job within the Fleet Division right out of class...we shall see...

So is it wise to apply for the optional deductible? And does anyone know how much the deductible is for :

Supplemental life insurance

Supplemental job disability

I'm sure I'm going to do a 401K I never had one before but better late than ever.

I would not sign up for the disability insurance until shopping around.

I bought it through the union when out was called Transamerica it's a different name now.

You have to wait 2 weeks before filling a claim in the event of an on the job injury and the amount you select has any workers comp payments you recieve deducted from the amount you elect.

I can look up more details in the policy of you like.
