The far left kind of victory. This is going to be funny seeing the ads about him flip flopping. He may have drawn all the far left support, but that's not going to fly for the rest of the city. Hate Lhota or not, he's been playing it safe and down the middle. My disappointment is how Thompson has been 'cast aside' in his own party because he isn't as cutthroat as deblasio is. Imo, I might've voted for Thompson, but oh well...

You think they would do one thing Bloomberg couldn't do bring in a 2024 Olympics?

Who wants the olympics here? The UN is nightmare enough with the street closings and security issues. The olympics would be like 20x worse on a city wide scale. Let some other cities worry about the headaches that comes with it. Most of the time they end up costing more money than the revenue it's supposed to bring in. We lost in 2012 and I think we should leave it at that.

Lhota? NEXT! This guy is better suited in a boardroom. He isnt mayor material in the least. No good in politics. He wasnt with the MTA long enough to really make a big impact or use it to his advantage. He appears very weak everytime hes is on tv. It is no surprise why that calamity of a paper the POST is endorsing him and Quinn. Hes riding on his performance during Hurricane Sandy and Rudy Giulianis coat tails from when he was deputy mayor to try and gain votes. Lets hope he doesnt win because he wont be a good mayor. I think it will be him versus DiBlasio or (wishful thinking) Thompson

FYI, Lhota, dealt with the day-to-day operations of running the city under Mayor Giuliani and played a big role in turning this city around, so he most certainly does have the know-how to run this city.  I agree that his time at the (MTA) was short, but he did the best with little resources during his tenure.  I will agree that he's a bit of a hot head, but he's a true New Yorker.  A guy who grew up in the Bronx, lives in Brooklyn and takes the subway to work every day.

He's certainly got my vote over de Blasio, who is doing nothing more than using his son as a puppet to appeal to Black voters as being on their side.  He knows exactly what he's doing, and I agree that it's racist. He's doing the old, see I'm not going to f*ck you (minority voters) over because my son is half Black, and my wife is Black, so I could never be a snake and talk out both sides of my mouth, though his record seems to indicate otherwise.

This is the same guy that is clearly trying to start a class warfare with his Park Avenue commercial, where he basically demonizes the rich and appeals to the poor by saying that he's basically going to overtax the rich to even the playing field, as if it's a crime to earn well.  Meanwhile during his time in office, it's been stated that he's been in bed with slum landlords, but he supposedly favors housing for the less fortunate, so which is it?

So De Blasio wins by default? What kind of election is that?!

Who said that?

De Blasio is not 'far left' in the least. He could be a vaguely progressive for the first time in decades, but that doesn't make him a 'cutthroat' socialist.

It's not racist. You don't understand what the word racist means if you think that's what racism is.

It's not class warfare. You don't understand what class warfare is if you think a modest tax on the superrich is class warfare.

He has not, also, 'been in bed' with slum landlords. He caught bad landlords and made them reform. I agree that it's strange one landlord then donated to has campaign, but that's not in De Blasio's control and he still did his job as policeman there. Still nowhere near as bad a connection as Al D'amato or Rudy Giuliani.

Good to see Lhota won the primary and will be in the election in November. Going to be a good race and may the best candidate who I vote for, win! My vote is pretty much decided already though.

we knew it was gonna be inevitable he won, and besides i only heard of the other one(cats) a bit  and the one who brought up the rear. never heard of him..

and weiner ends his comeback bid with a middle finger to his haters    and how bad were the other guys that they got less votes then weiner in the democrat primary?

Other than Liu who had corruption scandals and was never a serious contender, Weiner was still at the bottom, so he still sucked.

And it looks like Stringer will beat Spitzer. So that will mean NYC will not be a total joke with those 2 pervs still out of office.

At least Wiener kept it classy and gave an NBC reporter the finger after losing.

My man right there, keeping it real.

lmfao! Damn, missed that. Oh well at least it was that finger and not the other 'finger'.

...what other finger?

Either of these?

It was either run deeper in the red or try to close the budget gap. If anything blame Albany for not giving the MTA the funding it needs. I don't support all the cuts, but it was either cut the under performing lines or let the whole system suffer as a whole. It was a no win situation. And rather than focusing on just the negatives, what about the positives? Sandy showed that he was able to get the system back up within a few days because of the early shut down before the storm hit.

It's one thing to denounce the fare hikes, but it's another to have to run an agency dealing with funding issues. No one likes fare hikes, but you can't run a system without the adequate funding.

my question is has any mayor ever blasted an  (MTA) hike in fares and tolls and my concern is lhota would rubber stamp anything the t/a does if service cuts come around

Lhota was Giuliani's side-by-side man for his administration, and let's remember that Giuliani was probably the most anti-public transportation mayor in 80 years. He starved the MTA, and if Lhota had no problem with it then, it's hard to believe he will now. As for being critical of fare hikes, I don't know of any soundbytes, but that's more of a Liberal candidate/mayor thing to do (De Blasio, etc.).
