Just curious: When the Grizzlies couldn't make it in Vancouver, why did the N.B.A. go to Memphis (former A.B.A. city) and not back to Saint Louis (which had the Hawks 1955-1956 through 1967-1968) or Kansas City (which had the Kings 1972-1973 through 1984-1985)?

The Thunder seem to be doing good in Oklahoma City as Oklahoma City and Oklahoma's first major team in the big four (M.L.B., N.F.L., N.B.A., N.H.L.).

The Clippers used to be Buffalo's N.B.A. team (Buffalo Braves 1970-1971 through 1977-1978) then tried San Diego (1978-1979 through 1983-1984).

Down ball action, Center court action, N.B.A. all the way....

I agree Paul. Memphis did have great attendence when the Grizzlies moved to that Tenn. city almost a decade. Now they in the bottom 1/3.

Not to mention Memphis is more of a college basketball hotbed IMO.

KC just opened about 2-3 years ago a new arena and have tried to get either a NBA or NHL club. There was rumors that KC tried to buy the Islanders and move them there.

As i stated before to 553, there is way too many NBA clubs in our nation's south/southwest region. KC or another ABA home in Louisville, KY should get the next expansion or relocated club.

Seattle should have a basketball team. The Supersonics left only because the city didn't want to spend millions on a new arena.

Agreed. If the Hornets can't stay in New Orleans(I am doubtful the 'big easy' can even have a pro hoops club it's has and always be Saints Country)then Seattle should have a team.

The Sacramento Kings might be moving out of town. There are talks that they were moving to Anaheim. The NBA says they need a new Arena. It wouldnt make sense to move them to Anaheim, that would make it 3 teams in the greater LA area, and with the Warriors near by, it would be way too many teams in southern cali.

Correction bro. The Warriors play in Oakland, Ca. (San Francisco bay area)so they not in 'southern calif." I do agree there too many teams in Calif.

Maybe the Kings should move to Seattle or even back to Kansas City.

Las Vegas is big enough city to get a NBA/NHL or even a MLB club. Unless they change their gambling rules I don't think they ever get a 'big 4' major league club.

If anything the NBA should contract by '2' teams IMO.

ESPN is so in bed with the NBA they don't ever report that many teams are having a terrible time with attendence. From the Nets to Memphis and everywhere in between. That a separte topic but the recession has hurt the NBA and NHL alot in attendence.

Being fair the NHL is also having similar issues. Their big problem is way too many in the US 'sunbelt'.

The Lightning, Stars, Thrashers and Coyotes are all playing good hockey this year. The big problem w/the Coyotes and Stars has been ownership issues. It's hard to support a team regardless of the sport or location if you don't know if they're going to be around. In Dallas you also have to consider that many fans were pissed when the Stars didn't sign Mike Modano to a new contract, as he has been the face of the franchise since the team was still in Minnesota as the North Stars. Up until recently just about all of the sunbelt teams were experiencing the growing pains of developing a winning franchise and that has a lot to do w/it.

The Coyotes haven't done much since they've come from Winnipeg and they don't have any real big names to boot, so the old saying still holds true. If you win they will come.

Notice how empty the seats were in Colorado when Joe Sakic retired? Now they're in a playoff hunt and Peter Forsberg may be joining them which has everyone talking about a possible Stanley Cup run. Even at 37, Forsberg can still help the Avalanche, as he is a truly gifted hockey player. The only question is if his feet and ankles can hold up.

The Clippers owner doesnt want to leave Staples Center, and has stressed there not moving out. Staples center is one of the best arenas in the NBA. I been there once and it lives up to its name!

AEG Live knows how to run an arena.

I also been to the Staples on Thanksgiving weekend 2002 about a year or two after it opened. It a beautiful buliding. I been there for both a Clippers and Kings NHL game.

For the Clipper 1/2 of the crowd were wearing Lakers gear. The Lakers have been in LA since about 1960-61. They always will be the top hoops team in LA.

If the Clippers were in Orange County (anaheim)they would get their own base from that area and as far as San Diego. Just my take.

The Cleveland Cavaliers matched the single season record losing streak tonight (Friday February 5, 2011). The Cavaliers also clinch a losing record, falling to 8-42 (the Cavaliers were 8-19 when this began).

Team Super appears to be falling in place. The Miami Heat beat Charlotte to improve to 36-14.

The San Antonio Spurs beat Sacramento to clinch a winning season and improve to 42-8. The Spurs are 25-2 at home this season,

I don't think the Lakers can repeat this season. Things can change but looks like the Spurs are on a mission to win a title for future HOF Tim Duncan at or near the end of his great career.

see, cats like Chris Bosh I can't stand....

when this dude was w/ the Raptors, he was this nice guy type dude... rather humble... did what he could night in & night out for a bad franchise....

...now that he's on a contending team, and (probably) feels like he's on top of the world (never mind being a 3rd wheel in a menage a trois) on the Heat, now this motherf***er wants to run off at the mouth, talkin all this s**t.... first about Durant, then about the ref's, then about D Howard (who re-enacted LeBron's pre-game ritual, in that last heat-magic game)....

people really do change their stripes when they smell a little bit of success coming their way.... lost mad respect for dude....

The Cavs are 1 of 31 since Nov. They are now on a 23 game slump. Lakers still cant beat the elite teams....something is not right for them.

@B35 as for Chris Who, Kevin Durant called him a fake tuff guy! Something that I agree with Durant on. Cant forget Wade either, he think he is the ish now. He better not forget without the help of James & Bosh that he could not make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs. I hate the HEAT!

And the Allstar Game is a joke. 4 Celtic reserves, you cant be serious. I have yet to see Garnett play a Garnett like game. Paul B***H is another one of those fake tuff guys. He must have forget that he was a bum before Allen and Kevin came to the team. The Celtics, please! Cant stand them either.

agreed...

granted, the celtics are obviously one of the better teams in the league, but they are overrated....

Rondo's a big cause of that... I'm still baffled how this guy went from a bum, to supposedly, the best PG in the league, overnight (a category I put steve nash in, back when he was said to be the best PG in the league).... this guy Rondo can't consistently make jumpers to save his life (I'm willing to say he's worse than A-son Kidd), so he HAS to resort to floaters, & rackin up assists.... Do you ever note the look on his face when someone misses a shot on one of his potential assists...

I know what you mean about garnett... thing is, when you have pierce (his shot selection has always been questionable to me) & allen puttin up shots, that limits garnett's offensive game...

when you have bums like big baby davis & perkins bitchin (especially perkins) about playing time, and when they're in there, they don't DO much of anything but take up space, that limits what garnett is capable of doing defensively (rebounding, blocks, etc)...

....and don't get me started on that tree hugging f*g pierce... he has no identity... fake tough guy indeed....

back when him & that shimmying buffoon 'twon (antoine walker) was jackin up 3's, pierce was this supposed 3 point specialist.... after walker left, he (pierce) tried his hand at being a floor general (point-guard like) - that didn't work.... then he became a slasher, due to all these PG's drivin the lane like it's nobody's business, and gettin "and one's" after ANY little contact they end up getting as a result (which is another problem I have w/ the NBA right now)... Now the sports media makes him out to be like a reggie miller type clutch shooter....

I tell ya, fam.... these "point-forward" types done took over the NBA.....

Durant is one of the most overrated players in the league. He can shoot 7 for 20 and still end up with 30 points since he takes a ridiculous amount of free throws. His rebounding and assist numbers are average at best. Durant isn't even as talented as Carmelo.

I like Durant myself but he is not an 'elite' player. Another example of how ESPN promotes every damn good player in the NBA as the next 'superstar.'

There only a few 'world class' aka elite players in the NBA in 2011. Kobe, Lebraon, Wade and maybe Gasol.

That it.

Durant is in that next group of All stars (2nd tier 'franchise players) with Carmelo, Paul, Amare Stoudemire and Nash(he dropped down to this level from being an elite player 3-4 years ago)naming a few.

Aw man dont get me started on Rabum Rondumb. I remember when he first came into the league and know one new who he was. No all of a sudden he is better then Steve Nash? WTF? If he is better then Nash, then I won 6 Championships with the Bulls. The only reason why they is on his nutt sack is because off his assist. Now Nash on the otherhand can shoot the 3, the mid range J, knock down free throws(91% I think). Rondo cant do ish. Outside of the assist he is a complet bum. I am 100% positive I can beat him in a 21. If he is a future of the NBA then I dont know what this world is coming to.

Big Baby, I mean he must not realize why they really call him that. he whines too much. I think Big P***Y should be more like it. He belongs on some crap team like the Kings. I wouldnt give him minutes if he played for the Kings.

And K-Perk, what a complete baby. He takes the smallest call way to serious. I cant stand him.

The only player I like on the Cs is Ray Allen. He had some good days on the Sonics&Bucks. I remember those games in the playoffs with him and Iverson going at it and Ray just hitting 3 after 3 after 3.

Take away Allen & Kevin and then Paul B***H becomes a bonified BUM!

@ Forest Glen* Kevin Durant is more then overrated. I hate the fact he goes 6 of 24 and somehow gets 35 points. The refs automatically call those stupid fouls every time he goes up and someone touches his fingers. I cannot stand it. He has no post up game, big guys just pound him and thats why he shoots so much.

Pah. The Canucks are gonna take top seed in the west at the rate they're going. Also, I've never seen such a crappy Northwest division, like, ever. It's imploded upon itself! What are we? The Southwest division now?

I've been watching their games of late and they're really deep and actually a bit nasty this year, which I haven't seen in the more recent Canucks teams. The big question for them as always is can they do what they do in the regular season in the playoffs?

The playoffs come around and suddenly Luongo becomes leaky and their offense goes into a shell. I think they learned something after the loss to the Blackhawks. They were good last year, but far too cocky and it came back to bite them in the @ss. This year they seem to be on a mission, so we'll see. I think they can take the west if Detroit's goaltending continues to be a problem. I think the Flyers will come out of the East with the way they're playing currently.
