2 Train Master Posted January 11, 2011 Share #26 Posted January 11, 2011 one of my favorite sections on the including the section between Hoyt and Nostrand going towards Queens (only w/ the right motorman. ) Yep I said something very similar. Its usually a 40/60 chance that T/O will run it but when they do hold on b\c its Full service coming in Nostrand+ that curve. That's the best express run. Best Express runs on the : 59th St to 42nd St S/B usually a speed of 41-48mph. 34th to 14th St S/B usually a 38-42mph 59th to 125th St N/B easy 40 but when the dip comes btwn 103 and 110 there is a timer on there yellow/illuminated white very few T/O's won't brake if they brake most of the time its ok but if they don't brake that's one hell of a T/O b\c I never seen that signal change from Yellow/white to green b\c trains fly by so fast. 125th-59 is iight. And the last best express runs on the is coming in Nostrand in both directions***only if the Queens bound T/O doesn't brake at Franklin.
Fresh Pond Posted January 11, 2011 Share #27 Posted January 11, 2011 Wirelessly posted via (BlackBerry8520/4.6.1.259 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100) They put a timer there? I was at that station earlier today (going towards Manhattan though) and it looks like the trains were comming in slower thab usual. I know there's one before Utica Av (continuing into the station) and one before Nostrand.
Joel Up Front Posted January 11, 2011 Share #28 Posted January 11, 2011 This system keeps getting lamer. They already killed the express with timers. Oh well, at least I have the DC Metro. Must... refrain from... posting picture...

PATCOman Posted January 11, 2011 Share #31 Posted January 11, 2011 There are so many useless timers it is not even funny: northbound before 96 Street northbound before Simpson Street northbound after 125 Street southbound after 157 Street southbound after 110 Street (maybe)
Urbanfortitude Posted January 11, 2011 Share #32 Posted January 11, 2011 There are so many useless timers it is not even funny: northbound before 96 Street northbound before Simpson Street northbound after 125 Street southbound after 157 Street southbound after 110 Street (maybe) southbound before Chambers St fixed. LRG Posted January 11, 2011 Share #33 Posted January 11, 2011 They added one coming into High Street on the and the northbound some time ago. We used to stay wrapped going around the curve.
Urbanfortitude Posted January 11, 2011 Share #34 Posted January 11, 2011 I could kinda see why they'd want trains to slow down on that curve. But a lot of the timers that are in place now are fairly pointless.
LRG Posted January 11, 2011 Share #35 Posted January 11, 2011 Since we're on the topic of timers, I thought I'd post an article from nycsubway.org about timers: http://www.nycsubway.org/articles/signals_timesig.html Happy reading everyone! 2 Train Master Posted January 11, 2011 Share #36 Posted January 11, 2011 Another useless one is in the Bronx S/B local track from 183rd to Tremont its the 2nd or 3rd signal after 183rd but trains still manage to hit about 35mph b\c its downhill.Come to think of it trains can hit btwn 35 and 40mph on the ( coming in Fordham Road & Tremont Av in both directions. There is this timer on CPW S/B I think its after 86th.Its a short distance downhill. Also I'm not sure if you guys take the train along CPW N/B but there is this spot where 32's can hit 40 and thats coming in 110th St from 103 b\c its a slight curve but downhill. LRG Posted January 11, 2011 Share #38 Posted January 11, 2011 They have a timer coming into Church Avenue southbound on the and . It's been there for ages. I'd always get annoyed when I was a kid why the train would come into the station so slow.
553 Bridgeton Posted January 11, 2011 Share #39 Posted January 11, 2011 northbound before Simpson Street Still to this day, that timer is why and wtf is it doing there l0l. At the rate there giong there will be a timer into every station.
LRG Posted January 11, 2011 Share #40 Posted January 11, 2011 New York City should just be renamed to "Timer City" the way it's looking.

TwoTimer Posted January 11, 2011 Share #42 Posted January 11, 2011 The timer at Simpson was always there, but it used to clear faster than it does now. I believe it clears at 12mph now (instead of just under 20 like before).
4P3607 Posted January 11, 2011 Share #43 Posted January 11, 2011 I hope they don't time coming into Continental in Queens. Thats one of my worst nightmares I always love to go to that station to watch express trains fly in. Its no wonder why theres a sign in the rear of the Manhattan bound platform near express track that reads "employess are forbidden to cross the tracks". I also hope they dont put timers at Roosevelt Av either.

Nova RTS 9147 Posted January 12, 2011 Share #48 Posted January 12, 2011 There are so many useless timers it is not even funny: northbound before 96 Street northbound before Simpson Street northbound after 125 Street southbound after 157 Street southbound after 110 Street (maybe) New Lots bound, halfway between Rockaway and Junius. Still don't comprehend the logic before that.
