checkmatechamp13 Posted February 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2011 I was looking online and found this site that sells MetroCards at a 40% discount: http://cheapmetrocards.com/ Has anybody here used this site before? I was thinking of using it to purchase MetroCards, but I want to make sure it isn't a scam or anything. Also, does anybody here know if eBay or another website sells discounted MetroCards? Messino Posted February 16, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2011 I was looking online and found this site that sells MetroCards at a 40% discount: http://cheapmetrocards.com/ Has anybody here used this site before? I was thinking of using it to purchase MetroCards, but I want to make sure it isn't a scam or anything. Also, does anybody here know if eBay or another website sells discounted MetroCards? Its a scam, Its run by a muslim claiming a fake address in brooklyn, fake phone number thats invalid, the servers are located in hosted in Canada for an Egyptian webserver. They will take your money and you will probably get nothing in return. Probably steal your credit card / paypal/ Eurogold account info and sell it. I suggest you scan your computer as well as they could have installed something fishy. Cmon people, if it sounds too good to be true. It is too good to be true. The only way they could offer these prices is if they have a bunch of stolen metro cards. Either that or they are cloning the magnetic strip on the cards if they are actually sending out cards. rr4567 Posted February 16, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2011 That website is so badly done that I'd rather give my bank details to the person on the phone trying to give me $86,000 Ugandan dollars. (Yes, ugandan dollars. Not shillings ) Tel. +1.876233232 23 4str brooklyn HA. That's not even a full friggin' phone number. Oh, and he lives in a warehouse? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=23+4+str+brooklyn&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=23+4th+St,+Brooklyn,+Kings,+New+York+11231&gl=us&ll=40.677009,-73.994186&spn=0.00312,0.008256&z=18&layer=c&cbll=40.67776,-73.995299&panoid=fAuqbx6oMXU9NWmr1vMz7w&cbp=12,60.06,,0,-1.

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 16, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 16, 2011 I didn't send any information. That is why I asked-so I know if it is a scam. Things like this you should check on the MTA website for. I usually only buy my Metrocards from MTA vending machines or authorized dealers on Staten Island (if I forget to buy Metrocards in the city), which the MTA lists on their website, otherwise you're taking a big risk of being ripped off. At my old job, my boss would give me check vouchers, as my job offered Metrocards at a discounted rate in that you could have the Metrocards deducted from your gross salary, allowing you to bring home more in net pay. In my case, the company I worked for didn't offer Express Bus cards since only a hand full of us used those particular Metrocards out of the 70 or so of us. My boss was really a cool dude, so he was just giving me check vouchers and wasn't even deducting it from my paycheck. In any event I'd take the check vouchers to authorized dealers like supermarkets or Check Cashiers since I couldn't use them at MTA subways. After a while though I just stopped because it became a headache. You have to have the exact amount, as they won't give you change or anything at the store if say the check voucher is $50.00 and the card you need is say $41.00 (which was the cost of the Express Bus Unlimited Card at the time). Other than this sort of discount, I don't know of any other way that you can get discounted Metrocards.

NX Express Posted February 16, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 16, 2011 If it was so good, then why would the person give the service away to others instead of merely using it himself?
checkmatechamp13 Posted February 17, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted February 17, 2011 I could see some sort of logic in it. If somebody is planning to move out of NYC or something and has MetroCards they want to get rid of, they could sell them for a price below the MTA's price. checkmatechamp13 Posted February 20, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted February 20, 2011 By the way, this is where I got the information from: http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-york-city/1148356-bus-subway-fare-increase-5.html Apparently, some people did pay for a MetroCard and receive the discount (then again, for all I know, that could be the person from the website posting there).
