That is just like Sea Gate (where the streets are private and restricted access) and almost Forest Hills Gardens (while the streets are open to public traffic, they are privately owned - that is why the Q23 detours around it.

Also, for routes like the M15 (local and Select), might it cost less to, instead of keeping a bus assigned to one driver per day, have a driver take the first available bus in the layover, even if it wasn't the bus with which he started the day? The layover at the 126 Street Depot can sometimes be 5 or 6 buses deep.

Sea Gate is a gated community, which restricts it to local access only. Forest Hill Gardens much like Fieldston excludes commercial and large vehicle traffic.

Via however is wrong on accounts.

lol... There is actually... You're not allowed in Fieldston (a subsection of Riverdale) when the streets are closed to the public which they've been doing more of of late... Too many outsiders and traffic... Residents and their guests only, as that is a private community... Heck if I had a family I'd move there since I'm a short walk from there, but I'm not up for a house and don't need that much space.  Nevertheless nice to have some privacy away from outsiders... Too many tourists and such running up here.  I moved up here to get away from the tourists because it's isolated and up in the hills and not to have them running up here.

When it was warm there were tourists even on residential streets... I had to do a double take... Germans at that... I said are they lost or something? What are they doing up here?!?

Incorrect. It's always been practice to close roads one day out of the year, and with advance notice to the community. As it stands traffic is allowed, though parking on streets is prohibited. That much I can understand the justification of. As always pedestrians and cyclists are welcome to visit and pass through.

So sit your elitist ass down and shut up.

Um, apparently you don't know what you're talking about. I live in Riverdale and can walk to Fieldston in a few minutes and walk through there regularly, so I know what I'm talking about.

They can close the streets off when they feel like it, as is shown in these articles, not just a few times a year, as it is a private community.  When there is a security concern or any other concern, they have the right to block anyone from coming in, as the streets are private.  They pay for the security guards, the upkeep of the streets, etc., not the city.

Is "EXPRESS | BUS" The new code? I've seen that on one of the Prevosts.

Yeah that's one of the newer ones, or it'll read EXPRESS only on the right side of the two screens. The split screen code has been gone for close to a year I think, same with the scrolling text.

You say that you walk through there, and yet you claim pedestrians aren't allowed. Ridiculous.

And yet despite what they do cover they're still reliant on ConEd, NYC sanitation and water services. The double standards must stop.

The scrolling was only for the first iteration of the sign. The right hand express reading and the current one got rid of the scrolling.

Walked through Fieldston too...very nice place and everyone is so friendly (a few people even said hello to me), but a little too uppity for me. Crossed those off the places I've been at in the city, only neighborhoods left are City Island and that little northeast corner of Queens (Bayside, Lake Success, etc.)

Yes, it's common for people to speak and also wait for you to cross instead of trying to run you over like they do in Manhattan.  Folks on my block speak to me also, as well as my immediate neighbors or regulars that I see walking their dog as I walk to the express bus or Metro-North.  It's a tight knit community and each area has it's own vibe.  Though I'm a skip and a hop away from Fieldston, my neighborhood (Central Riverdale) still has a different vibe from Fieldston, Spuyten Duyvil/South Riverdale and North Riverdale.  They're all part of Riverdale but have a distinctly different vibe.  You'll see lots of elderly folks, nannies pushing strollers around along Henry Hudson Parkway and 239th, but also a mix of young professionals like myself as well.  And yes, you do have your snobs as well (plenty of them on the BxM1 lol), just like you would find on the Upper East or Upper West Side, as a lot of them move to Riverdale from those two neighborhoods.

If you think Riverdale is very uppity (which is true, particularly the Fieldston and the estate area west of the Parkway), you won't be able to tolerate Lake Success. LOL  Bayside, Bay Terrace and most of those areas of Northeast Queens along with Lake Success on the border are very affluent, expensive neighborhoods.  Lake Success is not very walkable though.

Correct... You can walk through there when it isn't closed off to outside residents... That's my point.  They're allowed to close it off when they feel like it, not just a few times a year if they feel it's necessary.  Not all of Fieldston is private anyway.  The part near Manhattan College for example is also in Fieldston and is open to the public all year around and I walk through there a lot.

This is why i f**king hate RTS! 9413 is about to breakdown on the B1. It has no front shocks and the driver cant go above 10mph because the whole front bounces like crazy. He wants to put it oos. But the bus is too packed. Then when he stops, he does this thing that makes the bus get like 3x louder. Sounds like when you step on the gas...idk why. Smh if something happen to this bus its a rap. Passengers complaining and such. Retire these things already wtf.

Yeahh when bustime come im really avoiding these shits idc how i sound.

You mean just like the R32 s? The RTSs are the R32s of the buses: hate by some because of their age, loved by some because of their age.

Good ol Ulmer Park for you. I can't even count the number of probelms they had with RTS's. One RTS had black smoke coming from the exshast and was escorted to the depot by like 3 trucks. But from what I've seen, only their older RTS's have problems. Their 4900's & 5000's are USUALLY running good. In my opinon, just like how I feel about FP, Ulmer Park should only have 1999 RTS's and the rest of the fleet should be newer. In fact the older RTS should retire ASAP if their's enough to replace them.

Well they won't be retired until 2015. They hold up pretty well though but I see what you mean. It is a bigger problem when you have depots like LGA or JA who have a majority of older buses. I bet you'll have a party when the xD40's are delivered and replace the RTS.

I hope they all leave ASAP. One lady said, this is ridiculous it feels like the whole bus will just shatter into pieces. I honestly thought the whole front was going to drop because of all the people in the front and how hard we hit those bumps.

Smh I totally agree. I think UP should try get more newer models to push out the RTS's like right now instead of working with only 40 Xcelsiors.

Grand Ave depot seems to be the only one who has a good handle on the older RTS's right now. They make up the most out of it's entire fleet right now. About 80 RTS's (No 1999 models), 21 Orion V's, & 40 Next Gens.

And Grand Avenue depot's fleet is still boring, even with the Orion V's there.
