Fresh Pond Posted February 9, 2012 Share #177 Posted February 9, 2012 How do trains operate to Herald Square? They can't turn around - remember that the switch is in the problem area. And how would West 4th Junction handle the all at once? then you cut the to Pacific and have the run local. W 4 will actually be having only 1 train use the switch witch would be the going from 6 Av back onto 8 Av. the is staying on the to 2 Av while the is staying on the all the way into Brooklyn
Threxx Posted February 9, 2012 Share #178 Posted February 9, 2012 Here is a new situation: You get a huge grant from some international mass transit group. After using about 3/4 to finish current capital projects (such as the Second Ave Subway, all phases) what shall you do with the remaining 1.5 billion dollars? (This is not very realistic, but it is a "What If?" thread.) The changes you make can only benefit subway service, and MUST benefit the outer boros in some way.

W 4 will actually be having only 1 train use the switch witch would be the going from 6 Av back onto 8 Av. the is staying on the to 2 Av while the is staying on the all the way into Brooklyn There would be a place (between the 6 Av switches and the flying junctions) where the would all share one track. That would be a disaster.

NX Express Posted February 10, 2012 Share #188 Posted February 10, 2012 Since nobody appears to want to post a riddle, here's one. A fire ignites in West 4th St station and the entire station is shut down for two weeks. Try to run as many services through (i.e. not in two sections) as possible. Be creative. Of course, be realistic (e.g. no bus replacement over any significant area).
