What if the TA needs to use R160s on the Franklin, is there a plan to upgrade the line (or some R160s)?

If our really came to it, they can just take a 4 or 5 car set lying around and pull out the extra B cars until its enough. It would need to be about 3 cats long, assuming all the platforms are 200'

Better idea would be to extend the Franklin Shuttle platforms to 600' and also back to two tracks'.  This would allow for flexibility if they ever have to take the tunnel between Atlantic Avenue and Prospect Park out and the (Q) in an emergency can go to at least Botanic Garden and the (2)(3)(4)(5) if not Franklin Avenue and the (C) if that became necessary (as would have been the case when the DeKalb Avenue fire happened).

Better idea would be to extend the Franklin Shuttle platforms to 600' and also back to two tracks'. This would allow for flexibility if they ever have to take the tunnel between Atlantic Avenue and Prospect Park out and the (Q) in an emergency can go to at least Botanic Garden and the (2)(3)(4)(5) if not Franklin Avenue and the (C) if that became necessary (as would have been the case when the DeKalb Avenue fire happened).

Why spend millions of dollars on that when all you have to do is get a train lying around and pull our the extra cars. Its called a SHUTTLE for a reason...

The MTA's playbook seems to be getting a bit of a workout these days, let's try another one (well two).

There's a water main break just south of Sutphin Blvd means no (F) trains can reach the 179st terminal.

Additionally due to a careless crane operater the structure at Allerton ave (2)<5> has been compromised and trains cannot run through the area.

The full compliment of rush hour service is in motion and both problems are estimated to take a week to resolve. What to do with the trains now and for the next week?

There's a water main break just south of Sutphin Blvd means no (F) trains can reach the 179st terminal.

 

Additionally due to a careless crane operater the structure at Allerton ave (2)<5> has been compromised and trains cannot run through the area.

 

The full compliment of rush hour service is in motion and both problems are estimated to take a week to resolve. What to do with the trains now and for the next week?

Subways:

(2): Trains rerouted over on (5) between East 180th St and Eastchester-Dyre Av. Some trains will terminate at East 180th St. Running with delays.

Free shuttle buses be provided between 241st & East 180th Sts.

(5): Some trains will terminate at East 180th St. Running with delays.

(E): Trains will be running with delay. All PM Rush Hour trip to Jamaica-179th St will be heading to Jamaica Center.

(F): Trains will be rerouted over (E) between Briandwood/Van Wyck Blvd and Jamaica-179th St. Trains will run with delays. Free shuttle buses will be provided between Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av/JFK Airport and Jamaica-179th St, making all (F) stops along Hillside Av between Sutphin Blvd and 179th St.

 

Buses:

If Allerton Avenue is affected by crane, mostly like streets surrendered by Cuger Av, Mace Av, Olinville Av, Arnow Av will be closed.

Bx26:

Westbound: VIa Allerton Av, turn left at Boston Rd, turn right at Mace Av, turn right at Olinville Av, turn left at Allerton Av, regular route.

Eastbound: Via Allerton Av, turn right at Bronx Park East, turn left at Mace Av, turn left at Boston Rd, turn right at Allerton Av, regular route.

 

Bx39:

Southbound: Via White Plains Rd, turn right at Arnow Av, turn left at Bronx Park East, turn left at Mace Av, turn right at White Plains Rd, regular route.

 

Northbound: VIa White Plains Rd, turn left at Mace Av, turn right at Bronx Park East, turn right at Arnow Av, turn left at White Plains Rd, regular route.

 

BxM11:

Manhattan-bound: Via White Plains Rd, turn right at Arnow Av, turn left at Bronx Park East, turn left at Mace Av, turn right at White Plains Rd, regular route.

Bronx-bound: VIa White Plains Rd, turn left at Mace Av, turn right at Bronx Park East, turn right at Arnow Av, turn left at White Plains Rd, regular route.

 

If Sutphin Blvd had water main break, streets surrended by 144th St, 87th Rd, 148th St, 88th Av will be closed.

Q20A/B:

Northbound: Via Sutphin Blvd, turn left at Jamaica Av, turn right at Queens Blvd, regular route.

Southbound: Via Queens Blvd, turn left at Jamaica Av, turn right at Sutphin Blvd, regular route.

 

Q43:

Westbound: Via Hillside Av, turn left at 150th St, turn right at Jamaica Av, regular route.

Eastbound: Via Archer Av, turn left at 153rd St, turn right at Hillside Av, regular route.

 

Q44:

Bronx-bound: Via Sutphin Blvd, turn left at Jamaica Av, turn right at Queens Blvd, regular route.

Queens-bound: Via Queens Blvd, turn left at Jamaica Av, turn right at Sutphin Blvd, regular route.

 

X68:

Manhattan-bound: VIa Hillside Av, turn left at 150th St, turn right at Jamaica Av, turn right at Queens Blvd, regular route.

Queens-bound: VIa Queens Blvd, turn left at Jamaica Av, turn left at 153rd St, turn right at Hillside Av, regular route.

All detour buses will make corresponding stops.

(F) Kew Gardens or 71 Av to Brooklyn

(2) 180 St to Brooklyn

(5) some delays, all trains to Nereid go to 180 St instead

(E): Via Queens Blvd Local east of Forest Hills-71st Av; no rush hour trains to Jamaica-179th St.

(F): All trains terminate at Forest Hills-71st Av, Kew Gdns-Union Tnpk or Jamaica Ctr-Parsons/Archer.

(2): All trains terminate at East 180th St (laying up at Bronx Pk E) or Eastchester-Dyre Av.

(5): No rush hour trains to Nereid Av.

 

Shuttle buses run on Hillside Av, from Union Tnpk to 179th St via Hillside Av/Queens Bl.

Shuttle buses run on White Plains Rd from East 180th St to 241st St via White Plains Rd.

Hasn't been done for a while so:

The MTA wants to curb obesity and will cease running trains across the williamsburg bridge forcing ppl to walk across instead. The lazy ppl formed a petition and got thier way saying their needs to be a way for ppl to get from between broadway junction-jamaica and stops till marcy ave to the city without walking

Edit: u can't use the "just rum 'em across the willy b" because the MTA barricaded the bridge with fox locks and will leave it like that for a yr while the ppl want train service

First of all, I had a good laugh with this, since many people take the train to the city because they need to go places. Nobody has time for a 30 minute walk across the bridge, unless, you are

1. A very active person

2. Have all the free time in the world

 

Everyone will just bombard the (A) or take the the (E)(F)(M)(R), hop onto the express bus, or take the B39 instead. Cutting the (J)(Z)(M) down to Marcy is like running (E)(F) 's to 71 Avenue and saying, to hell with all of them, or the (B)(D)(N)(Q) to Atlantic and not running anything on the Manny-B, so the alternative is that the state sues the city and we all go bankrupt and crumble (since it's unconstitutional).

 

Anyways, on a more serious note:

 

The switch lock at Prince St on the (N)(R) going towards Brooklyn is stuck on the Manhattan Bound switch. Reroute the (R), or do something to the (R).

 (R) regular Brooklyn Service/Queens,no service in Manhattan take the (N) or (Q) to Union Sq for the (4)(5)(6) making close by stops

8th St - Astor Pl

Prince St -  Spring St

Canal St - Canal St

City Hall - Bklyn Br

Cortlandt St - Fulton St

Rector St - Wall St

Whitehall St - Bowling Green.

 

(N)(Q) regular service N/B, (N) runs between 14th and Astoria (Q) between 14th and Continental to make up for the stuck (R) trains

I'm assuming the Montauge Street Tunnel is back in service when this happens:

 

(R) runs in two sections:

71st-Continental, Queens to 34th Street, Manhattan (skips 49th Street in both directions)

95th Street, Brooklyn to Canal Street (Tunnel Level), Manhattan (Some (R) trains from Brooklyn terminate at Whitehall Street)

(Note: If Montauge Tunnel is NOT in operation, (R) terminates in Brooklyn at Court Street as it is currently)

 

(N) and (Q) both run local between Canal Street and 57th Street in both directions.

 

Next:

The switches at West 4th going to Brooklyn force all trains to move to the local track there and run on that track to Brooklyn.  The Montauge tunnel has re-opened, so sending trains via Nassau is an option.

I'm confused, which switches are you talking about? Is it the actual W4 St interlocking or the 6 Av ones north of the station

 

If the former, then everything is normal...

(D) Bronx to 2 Av, Bway-Lafayette to Brooklyn

(B) suspended

(F)(M) southbound trains run express 34 St to W4 St since the switch is stuck express to local

B39 runs 24-hours during this time, every 20 minutes.

(J)(Z): (Z) and (J)(Z) skip-stop and express service suspended. No trains between Marcy Av and Broad St. Special (S) train operates between Essex-Delancey Sts and 9th Av (D) Station via 4th Avenue local.

(M): Service only operates between 71st-Continental and 2nd Av (F) Stations only with 10-car operation.

During this time, NY Waterway, NY Water Taxi nd Seastreak will cooperate and will provide $2 ferry service between South Williamsburg and Wall St Pier.

Free shuttle buses will operate between Marcy Av Station and Schaefeller Landing.

B32 bus will be expanding service during this time.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the interlocking that puts ALL of trains at West 4th on the local track.

If Late Night Fasttrack

(5) Shuttle suspended.

(2) Rerouted over to (5) between E. 180th St and Eastchester-Dyre Av.

Addtional Bx39 bus service will be provided.

Free shuttle bus will also be provided along (2) line between E. 180th St and 241st St.

 

If Weekend Fasttrack

(2): Trains rerouted over (5) line between East 180th St & Dyre Av.

(5): No trains between Dyre Av & 149th St-Grand Concourse.

Free shuttle bus will be provided along (2) line between E. 180th St and 241st St. Express shuttle bus only serves E. 180th St, Pelham Parkway, Gun Hill Rd and Wakefield-241st St.

North of 149...

 

(2) Service runs from Harlem-148 street to Flatbush, and from 180 street to 241 Street

 

Northbound (2) trains skip Bronx Park East; the shuttle bus will serve the station.

 

(5) Service is suspended

Shuttle Buses will run from 180 street to Dyre Avenue, and from Harlem 145 street to 180 street

Next Scenario: 

 

Because of four signal malfunctions in the DeKalb Area, (B)(D)(N)(Q)(R) trains need to be rerouted (this is a weekday with the Montague shut down)

 

Four signals:

 

1. At Dekalb, the southbound express track (R) is stuck to the Brighton Line Position

2. Atlantic Avenue (northbound) , the switch going northbound is stuck from the northbound (D)(N) track to the northbound (R) track position

3. The switch from near Myrtle Avenue at the (B)(Q) track is stuck to the (N)(Q) track northbound position

4. Southbound, coming from the 6 Avenue tracks, the tracks are stuck to the (D)(N) super express track position

 

Reroute Away!

(5): Single train operation on SB Track between Pelham Parkway & East 180th St. Single shuttle train leaves East 180th St from Center Platform. Doors will be open on bwetoth side. Free shuttle buses operates between Pelham Parkway & Dyre Av.

 

(6): No trains between 3rd Av-138th St & Parkchester-East 177th St.

Free shuttle bus operate as follows.

1. Local shuttle bus operates between Parkchestester & Hunts Point Av.

2. Local shuttle bus operates between Hunts Point Av & Parkchester.

3. Express shuttle bus operates between Parkchester & 3rd Av-138th St, serving Hunts Point Av station only.

Simpler solution.  Run n/b 5 service via Track Y-3 to Dyre Avenue. 

 

<6> trains can be switched to the local track s/o hunts Point, and can be switched back n/o Hunts Point.
