Aqueduct North Conduit Ave is closed for repairs, but residents are going crazy to restore (A) service to Aqueduct.

Reroute or suspened the (A)

Bypass the station in both directions, 2 alternatives...

-Take train to Howard Beach and double back to Aqueduct Racetrack

-Free shuttle bus between Aqueduct Racetrack and Howard Beach

For the DeKalb Avenue switch problem:

(B) runs from Bedford Park Boulevard OR 145th Street to EITHER 2nd Avenue (F) OR Chambers Street (E) station (alternating trains with reduced service levels)

(Q) runs from Prospect Park to Coney Island ONLY in Brooklyn!!
Manhattan (Q) service runs Whitehall Street-Ditmars Boulevard OR 57th Street
(Late Nights: (Q) runs Jay Street-Metrotech to 57th Street).

(R) runs in two sections:
95th-59th Street (Shuttle) in Brooklyn
Jay Street-Metrotech in Brooklyn to 71st-Continental in Queens

Here's a new idea- a what if thread.

It's basically saying what if... a new service had to happen, constuction, ect. And you get to answer with your ideas (or facts, if you want to)

RULES:

No Fantasy Lines.

Limited Foaming.

I'll start it off.

What if....

the south side of the Manhattan Bridge get repairs done to it?

With the (cool.png(D)(F)(M), i don't know if 6 av can handle five lines...

What if there was a need that the situation of the 9/11 happen again onto the Freedom Tower? I listed the changes:

1: (1) line reroute via the (3) line from Chambers Street to New Lots Aveune.

2: (2) line all the time local.

3: (3) line is shuttle (148th Street to 135th Street).

4: (4) and (5) line skips Wall Street.

5: (A) and (E) line skip Chambers Street.

6: (C) line run between 168th Street and 59th Street.

7: (E) line reroute via the (C) between Canal Street and Elculd Aveune.

8: (M) line have split service (service is same) and the other terminal is Coney Island.

9: (N) and (R) train service suspended.

10: (J) line extended into 95th Street.

A earthquake has shaken the NYC area. It is a week after the earthquake.

Areas affected:

In Brooklyn, the entire (J)(Z)(M) line is out of power.

In Queens, the entire (N) structure has collapsed

In the Rockways, there is no power.

Reroute or suspened

You have to ask what kind of earthquake will do that much damage in New York City though.

MY MISTAKE! I POSTED THAT SHORT! there we're suppose to be more areas affected:

A 6.7 earthquake has shaken the NYC area. It is a week after the earthquake.

Areas affected:

In Brooklyn, the entire (J)(M)(Z) line is out of power.

In Queens, the entire (N) structure has collapsed

In the Rockways, there is no power.

In manhattan, Bowling Green has collapsed onto the tracks.

In manhattan, the Street has fallen onto Times Square 42 St

In the Bronx, the tunnel near dyckman St has collapsed onto it self.

In the Bronx, the (4) line has a complete subway shutdown due to fears of the structure collapsing onto the street.

In Manhattan, the (7) extension project has been destroyed because the entire station collapsed onto its self.

In Queens , Queensboro Plaza has been shut down due to the (N) structure collapsing.

The manhattan bridge has suffered critical damage leaving it out of service.

The Williamsburg bridge has suffered minimal damage, it is okay to restore service to this sector.

Broadway Junction has collapsed.

The entire line of the (2)(3)(4)(5) in Brooklyn is without power.

Reroute or suspend. Yes I got this from that movie "2012".

Well, I think the system would suspended, and massive bus reroutes would be in effect.

They would first suspend everything because after an earthquake, who knows what structures are still safe to use. Some elevated highways and bridges might be out-of-order too until they can determine what's still structurally sound.

Alright how about this, it has been a Month after the earthquake. The MTA has tested all lines and they are safe to use except the affected ones

I'm going to take some liberties on this one and assume a few things being a little different:

(1) runs as three separate lines

181st Street to 96th Street.  Trains from 96th Street run express from 96th-157th Street uptown.

Two separate shuttles:
On the uptown local track between 96th and 145th Street in the uptown direction and then deadheads back on the same track (single train uses this track).  For these stations going uptown, it is advised to take train running express to 157th and ride back down if possible!

34th Street-Penn Station OR 14th Street (depending on condition of 34th) and Chambers Street (South Ferry is not considered structurally sound)

(2) service is SPLIT with alternating trains running to 96th Street-Broadway (via normal route) OR Grand Central-42nd Street (replacing the (4) via Lexington Avenue)

(3) runs 148th-Lenox Terminal-96th Street ONLY!!

(4) is suspended!!

(5) runs to Brooklyn Bridge ONLY!! (Local in Manhattan)

Single-track shuttle trains run on both Lexington Avenue express tracks between Brooklyn Bridge and EITHER Fulton or Wall Streets depending on the condition of Wall Street.

(7) runs in two sections:
Times Square-Court Square (Court Square is unaffected)
61st OR 74th Street-Main Street

(A) runs in two sections:
207th Street-Utica Avenue (local in Brooklyn)
Euclid Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard OR Howard Beach

(B) runs between Bedford Park Boulevard in The Bronx to EITHER 2nd Avenue (F) OR Chambers Street (E) station at all times (alternating trains) when normally running (local along 6th Avenue).

(C) runs to Essex Street (J) station OR Chambers Street (E) station rush hours (alternating trains). Non-rusn hours, all trains to Essex Street, including late nights.

(D) operates between 205th Street and 34th Street ONLY!!!  Late Nights extended to 2nd Avenue.

Shuttle operates between Broadway-Lafayette and Grand Street

(J) operates in two sections:
Essex Street in Manhattan and Coney Island in Brooklyn (via Montauge, 4th Avenue and West End, replacing the (D) in Brooklyn and using 300' trains if necessary, line is NOT affected by power problems)

Crescent Street and Jamaica Center

(L) operates in three sections
8th Avenue to Myrtle-Wyckoff (power problems do not affect the Canarsie Line)
Myrtle-Wyckoff to Bushwick-Aberdeen (single track shuttle)
Atlantic Avenue to Rockaway Parkway (Atlantic Avenue is unaffected.

(M) and (Z) are suspended

(N) is re-routed in Queens to 71st-Continental via the Queens Boulevard Line at ALL TIMES.
(Q) runs to 57th Street-7th Avenue at ALL TIMES.

Numerous additional shuttle buses operate in and around the affects stations on the IRT lines in Brooklyn.

Why not have this:

Signal Problems at Myrtle Avenue- Bdwy

Reroute (J)(M)(Z)

Finally, something sensible lol

(J) Jamaica Center to Bway Junction, Hewes St to Broad St

(M) Forest Hills to 2 Av

(Z) suspended

NEXT...

Electrical fire knocks out power at 125, 135 and (both levels of) 145 St along 8 Av. This will last a week as twists have to be made.

Hmm...

(A) trains run in sections from Inwood to 168 st (shuttle) and from Columbus Circle to Far Rockaway/Lefferts

(B) trains run from 42 St to Brighton Beach

(C) trains run from Columbus Circle to Euclid Avenue

(D) trains operate in sections from Norwood to 161st and from 42 St to Coney Island

A (K) shuttle (or rather, (S)) runs from Columbus Circle to 116 St, one on each level

The Nassau St line is impassible south of Essex-Delancey and the Cranberry St Tube is closed. Reroute (A)(C)(J)(Z) and any others.

And, due to ongoing track work, Marcy, Hewes, and Myrtle cannot be used as a terminal.

(J) to Broadway Junction.

(Z) suspended.

(A)(C) via (F).

Next:

A developer wanted to build new buildings, but forgot to test their product. After a huge rainstorm, the buildings eroded and fell down. The (MTA) sued them and got them fined for not testing, but the local tracks at the following locations are not avalible. Only the center track is avalible.

(2)(5) E180 St on the switch.

(J)(Z) between Crescent Street and Cypress Hills.

(A) Rockaway Blvd.

(7) 74th Street-Broadway.

(4) Burnside Av

(6) Parkchester on the switch.

(F) Kings Highway

It is also AM rush, so areas that can be served with high frequency must do so.

Reroute trains.

Logically impossible...how can only the center track be available but the outside tracks aren't, when they share one structure?

Agreed.  I tried, but I took one look at it and it is impossible.

Next:

Being a little more realistic, a blizzard very similar to the actual blizzard of just after Christmas 2010 hits, but unlike that blizzard, this one was NOT forecast to hit at all (it was forecast to be "only" 2-4" of snow) but the low got parked in such a way that the snow kept piling up and when all was said and done, a whopping 40"(!), easily an all-time record for one storm hits creating massive problems many (but not all) on the outdoor sections of many lines.  Some underground portions also had significant snow come in, but it for the most part was not enough to shut down underground sections.

Reroute away or suspend as necessary!
