SubwayGuy Posted December 3, 2015 Share #5676 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) I can understand his enthusiasm though.... Hey at least hes not not like some of these cats who i see call themselves "Motorman" and they dont even got time down here to Pick a Job yet.... Yep those crack me up. And they can't fix the first thing that goes wrong with the train... ...calling for the RCI because the train bucks when they release 30 pounds from the station and wrap it up all in one motion... ErikNYC Posted December 4, 2015 Share #5682 Posted December 4, 2015 Hey erik, do you still work with another TO in the yards? You will get help if needed, you will have a partner depending on the job duty. Its not training, but more so familiarization. You are responsible for completing the job. Always let the dispatcher or TSS know when you need help, and ask all the questions you need as soon as you sign in. If you have a partner that is a senior person they will normally lead the way, and show you the ins and outs. you will be working in yards and terminals. It's not training, but an actual job, and job number.
mikeems1 Posted December 6, 2015 Share #5683 Posted December 6, 2015 Hey everyone, hope everyone's weekend was good! as i prepare for school car, can anyone advise the best bag i'll need for tools. Also for orientation is it business casual or is it the acceptable uniform they say until we are issued uniforms. Can anyone advise if we must live in NYS throughout employment or we can live IE Jersey etc? Looking forward to the feedback. Thanks!
tprashad0719 Posted December 6, 2015 Share #5684 Posted December 6, 2015 Definitely go to homedepot and pick up a husky tool bag ,I have the 18 inch but we carry books as well so I probably go with the 21 inch or so It's hard to live out of state and travel,a lot of guys are living with family members who live in new york ..i recommend going to a uniform store or order online for a blue plain work mechanic shirt and dark blue dockers or red kap pants that the mechanic wears ..uniforms are a huge issue here because the people who does the measurements for your uniforms sucks ,so you end up sending them back to ups and it's a waiting game..so buy 2 or 3 of each shirt and pants..training gets dirty

tprashad0719 Posted December 8, 2015 Share #5689 Posted December 8, 2015 The drop out rate is ridiculous, people failing there praticals, signal exams ,mid terms etc..the training is very rough as I stated..I'm not going to BS anyone, I'll say it as it is..be prepared and get anything you need to get done now..every morning I wake up and ask myself if I really want to do this ,but I'm already in it so I'll see how things work out..the job itself is good don't get me wrong but I really think the training could be better and organized better..mta don't give a crap if you make it ..your given an induction book to read and if your lucky hands on training. .i say lucky because if there is no train available for your class to learn on its just another wasted day ..everything is thrown at you and you just have to find the time to study. .it's going by so quickly you'll be surprised. .the traveling is a lot as well so be prepared

SubwayGuy Posted December 9, 2015 Share #5695 Posted December 9, 2015 Can anyone advise when you find out what division your in? Thanks 2nd day typically. You will either all be going to one division, or, if the class is to be split, you will choose in seniority order (your seniority is determined by your list number on the exam). KNYNE Posted December 9, 2015 Share #5696 Posted December 9, 2015 I got sworn in today for the Dec 28 class Congratulations!!! I had my name restored to the list and never got called to go down for anything. I've been on the phone with someone at personnel who handles that and she told me the list was extended until July or August. Take that for what's it worth.
