Funny you should say that, because I passed by the Lefferts Blvd (A) Station and there were personel handing out brochures about the G.O.

Hey, if the brochures show that the (A) must be caught at 80 Street and not Rockaway Boulevard, then everyone could ride safe and there would be minimal problems.

  • 2 weeks later...

I hate this no (4)(5) trains into Brooklyn AND the fact that the (4) runs local in Manhattan, and that the (5) is starting to act like the (G). This means I now have to use the 7th Ave Line or the 8th Ave Line to get to Manhattan. The delays at City Hall are unbearable!

Then you will love the weekend/late night GO's in January:

Weekends:

1/3-4: No (6) between 125-Brooklyn Bridge. (5) runs Dyre-Bowling Green via local all weekend. Uptown (4) also runs local between 42nd and 125th.

1/10-11: See above

1/17-18: No (5) between E180-Bowling Green. (4) runs in two sections, transfer at 125th. (4-seat ride between Dyre and Lexington Avenue south of 125th). Also, alternating (6) trains terminate at Parkchester, and uptown (4) trains skip 138th.

1/24-25: See above

1/31-2/1: No (2) between 3 Av/149 St and 96 St. No (5) between E180-149th. And no (3) trains at all, with (4) trains running to New Lots.

And the (C) runs every 15 minutes every weekend in January.

Late nights:

1/5-9: No (6) between Hunts Point and 125th. (5) ends early south of E180.

1/12-16: See above

1/19-23: (4) runs in two sections, transfer at 125th, and uptown (4) trains skip 138th.

1/26-30: See above

So will the (4) dead end at Third Avenue like the (6) sometimes dead end at Grand Concourse or the (4) TOs kick passengers off at 125 Street?

For weekends it's inconsistent, but late nights for sure they kick you off at 125th. Either way the (4) will relay at 3rd Avenue, and the (4) from the Bronx usually is single tracked b/t 138 and 125 especially when 138 gets skipped.

The upcoming (6) GO *may* have changed as well and they might kick you off at 125th too. The (6) can relay at 138-GC on the middle if the (6) from Manhattan terminates at 125.

The weekend (6) GO and the usual "20 min headway if at all" (5) GO is a cost cutting move (stealth service cut) since apparently they feel that the Lex can get by with just two services on the weekends. All it will take is a major budget crisis ala 2010 to make it permanent.

(4) : 7 minute headways b/t Woodlawn and Utica (normal: 8 mins)

(5) : 7 minute headways b/t Dyre and Bowling Green (normal: 12 mins, usually 20 mins)

(6) : 12 minute headways from 125 to Pelham (normal: 8 mins)

If my math is right (divide 60 minutes by the headway then adding each result together), normally the Lex would have 22 tph, while with the normal (5) supplement it would have 20 tph. Today the Lex has (about) 17 to 19 tph, and factoring in what's left of the holiday crowds, I believe you. Heck, even on a typical weekend I'd believe you.

How does this work? There's no switch from the local to the express track on the northbound track south of Avenue X. Are trains going to simply bypass Avenue X on the local? Could somebody with access to TENS chime in?

Probably single tracking between West 8th and Ave X, probably wouldn't delay service too bad if they use both pocket tracks at Stillwell.

The Lexingiton Ave line is a MESS today! We have train sets switching from (4) to (6), delays at City Hall, overcrowded trains and MORE!!

Would be nice if a 62A from the (6) got switched over to the (4)...
