A Rush hour G.O.? And a fairly long-term one at that...

Planned Work

6_diamond.png Pelham Bay Park-bound trains run local from 3 Av-138 St to Hunts Point Av

Rush Hours, 3:30 PM to 6 PM, Mon to Fri, until Nov 28 (except Nov 27)*

Please allow additional travel time.

*Holiday Schedule Reminder: No 6_diamond.png service on Thanksgiving Day.

Planned Work

6.png Trains from Pelham Bay Park skip Longwood Av, E 149 St, E 143 St, Cypress Av and Brook Av

Rush Hours, 3:30 PM to 6 PM, Mon to Fri, until Nov 28 (except Nov 27)

For service to these stations, transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound local 6.png at Hunts Point Av.

This doesn't make sense at all.

Maybe to finish construction at Hunts Point?

The really weird thing is that only trains from the Pelham Bay Park are running express from Hunts Point to 3 Av-138 St. Trains from Parkchester are running local like normal. I don't understand this at all.

Educated guess: The Pelham trains running express southbound keeps the round trip running times closer to the normal schedule. They can't add extra trains to account for the added NB stops because they simply don't have any at that hour.

As for why they're doing this, I don't even have the slightest clue...

Weekend Service Notice  Click for details

2.gif No trains between Manhattan and Brooklyn 5.giftrains replace the 2.gif in the Bronx and Brooklyn... more

Weekends, 11:30 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, until Nov 24

2.gif service operates between E 180 St and Chambers St, and via the 1.gif to/from Rector St.
• Trains run local between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St all weekend.

5.gif service operates between Flatbush Av and E 180 St, and via the 2.gif to/from 241 St.

Travel Alternatives

For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the N.gif Q.gif R.gif.

For Park Place, Fulton St, Wall St, Clark St, Borough Hall and Hoyt St,
use nearby 4.gif 5.gif or R.gif stations instead.

In the Bronx and Brooklyn, take the 5.gif instead.

• Transfer between 2.gif and 5.gif trains at E 180 St.
• Transfer between 3.gif and N.gif Q.gif R.gif trains at Times Sq-42 St.
• Transfer between N.gif Q.gif R.gif and 4.gif 5.gif trains at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

They don't say anything about Dyre ave. The (5) is moved to 241st, but it says the (2) is only going to 180th. If it's really going to Dyre, and this is their way of avoiding "confusion", it's just creating more confusion (even to click on the map at a Dyre line station, you only get the other information; not what's actually running there). It would be better to just keep the routing the same in the Bronx, and then tell the people going all the way to Brooklyn (the only ones really affected) to transfer at 180th (or 149th).

Also, how does the (2) terminate at Rector? The only switches around there now are the ones leading to the new South Ferry. wouldn't that be closed off now? If it just goes around the loop of the old South Ferry empty, what's the point of that?

Something else that just occurred (after all this time) to me regarding the (J) dropping out at Hews (insteaf of just going to Marcy), is that Marcy has elevators (wheelchair accessible, in addition to being more convenient for others), and Hewes doesn't!

Should that override any feared inconvenience of having to choose one sde of Marcy to keep open, and direct the people to that side?

1. There's no service on the Dyre Avenue line this weekend.

2. Most likely, the (2) will drop out on the South Ferry platform, go light through the loop, and pick up on the Bronx bound platform.

3. It makes more sense to have service end at Hewes Street because then trains can relay easier than at Marcy Avenue.

@Eric B: This isn't a new service pattern for when the Clark St tubes are closed. The only difference is that this time, the 2 is terminating at E 180 St. That is due to the Dyre Ave line being shut down for the umpteenth time. Otherwise, the 2 would probably run to Dyre Av per usual. As for not stopping at South Ferry, the suits probably don't want the trains making the stop there for the same reason 2 trains always skip 145 St when they run to Lenox Terminal, liability reasons. They don't trust the crews to not open the doors in the rear five cars, despite all of the reminder signage in both relevant stations.

1) OK, I saw that on the station GO notices. It was very unclear (basically, omitted) on the Weekender.

3) It's not “easier” to relay from Hewes. Marcy wouldn't be a “relay” at all; the T/O just changes ends in the station. Much easier than having tclean everyone out, and then have to walk through all the doors on the train (especially when carrying your equipment, etc.) By all means, it's easier to use Marcy; and now I wonder how they even get away with neglecting the ADA access. Looks like it's just some protocol that was never rethought.

Then what I would do is have a person stationed at South Ferry whose sole responsibility is to remind the conductors to ONLY open the first five cars there (and have reminders posted on all cars scheduled to use the loop that weekend that only the first five cars board at SF and have extra signs at Rector to do that as well).  If people are that stupid not to heed warnings, that is their fault.

That's not even necessary. If you've been to South Ferry lately, you'll be bombarded with signs about the first five cars rule. This is simply another case of MTA management not trusting their workers to use their brains.

Some (2) trains will still run on the Dyre line when the shuttle buses aren't running (Friday nights S/B until midnight and Monday mornings N/B after 5:00am)

Usually one of the tubes on the (6) between the Bronx and Manhattan is closed when this GO happens, but the (5) replacing the (6) seems to be new...

There's a late night GO this week where one of the tubes on the (4) is closed, but the (4) is still doing split sections with a transfer at 125th..

When the 4 is split like that, the Manhattan/Brooklyn section relays at 3 Av-138 St on the Pelham line. Sometimes the countdown clocks will erroneously announce the relay as an in service move.

I'm not sure what kind of work is taking place. The (5) will be running to Bowling Green all weekend long including late nights. Also the (4) is local uptown from 42nd-125th street
