Lil 57 Posted July 1, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2020 Well it's bound to come soon, NICE already started requiring people to pay from the 27th of June so the should follow suit. The should keep their eagle teams though. Without them, the buses would still be "free" since fare beating won't be enforced.

B35 via Church Posted July 21, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 21, 2020 The transition from riders getting used to boarding the backs of buses & riding freely, to going back to front door entry & having to pay, will not go over too well - especially when tensions are as high, regarding everything else going on right now in this city/country...... B/o's, be safe out there.

And that's only made worse by the fact that our government is unwilling (ability is out of the question, seeing the many bailouts for the wealthy and corporations just in the middle of this pandemic, to say nothing of other crises) to make sure average people are taken care of...

Calvin Posted August 28, 2020 Share #11 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) To answer the topic question to this post, Monday, August 31st. Fare collection on local/limited buses will resume with barriers/curtains. Front single seat blocked and all doors will open on SBS routes except the S79-SBS. 2 more days of free rides left. QM1to6Ave Posted August 28, 2020 Share #13 Posted August 28, 2020 One of the buses I was on yesterday (I can't remember which, I did a lot of traveling for work lol) had a different version of the new partition I haven't seen before--it was essentially an extender made of plexiglass bolted onto the existing protective barrier. But I guess it is moveable, because the B/O had somehow pulled it in so it was not fully extended, and was not wearing a mask. So that was great.
RtrainBlues Posted August 29, 2020 Share #14 Posted August 29, 2020 Lots of changes today: Destination sign on outside front of bus alternates with "FARE REQUIRED" then the route/destination. Small sign on outside back door directs passengers to board through the front door instead. Big sign inside of bus states that fare collection starts again on Monday, and to use Metrocard, OMNY or coins. Saw one bus with a plastic curtain (looks like a shower curtain) that wraps around driver area. But will that plastic shield protect driver & prevent air from getting from one part of bus to another? Will be interesting to see how much bus ridership declines as of Monday.

Yeah, and it'll be also... interesting... to see how much dumbfoundedness & outrage there'll be on the buses as of Monday also.

Just drive the bus and try to stay on time. It's not worth the stress. All B/Os should have N95 masks at all times when riding with the public. No masks should be enforced by the B/O and no fare payments should be enforced by the B/O. Let those peasants do as they please, your safety is #1. If you're not safe then the passengers aren't safe. The MTA is doing a horrible job, they need to use the better and REALISTIC options to enforce the damnn fare and the masks, period.
