What is your favorite IRT car? You can base your choice on just looks since the age group of this community varies greatly.

From Ancient Mummy to fetus.:P.

I would have to say the R62(A)s. The cars don't start bumping into one another when accelerating. I love the propulsion sound when they get moving (like an idle jet engine, but not as much noise of course). The R142 doesn't seem to do it either, I've never felt it. As for the R142As. IIIIIeeeeee Bump-Bump, every time. When I work the Bx21 line, get to Westchester Square, and layover, I can hear then bumping when the train accelerates. I have felt it riding them also. They are my second favorite IRT subway cars though, just because of the propulsion (Adtranz). I really like that sound.

Well I am probably older than most of the members here, but my favorite IRT car is not listed among the options. It would be the original Lo V. I think that the last were not retired until the early 60s. As a young boy, my home lines had the IND R-9s and R-10s. Compared to them the IRT cars had a unique sound and sway that made them feel like they were going 100 mph on the Lexington Ave Exp.

What so special about R142A 7667?

1. It's a palindrome.

2. It's usually coupled near the end of the train, which in the mornings is perfect for me to make my transfer to the (N)(R)(W).

3. Its guides were never updated. It still has the (Q6) and the (F) running via 53rd listed.

R62/A-because of the dim lights, good time to sleep in the train, i like its sounds, and ive always rode it when i was younger, especially on the (6).

R142A-It has good A/C, its always cool inside, it has a smooth, quiet ride. It a confortable ride for me.

R142-Good car to run express, even though it has a broken HVAC. I also ride it alot.
