NEXT:

Two separate sinkholes have developed near the 125th Street fault line in upper Manhattan:

One between St. Nicholas and Lenox Avenues.

One between Lexington and 3rd Avenue.

The only subway line that far north unaffected by this is the (1) line (as it's elevated on 125) and Metro-North is also unaffected by this (as its also elevated).

This will take a few days to fix.  Reroute/suspend/cross-honor as needed.

With the avenues you said, the (2)(3) can still run so...

 

(4) in 2 sections: Woodlawn to 138/Grand and 86 St to Crown Heights as normal.

(5) via (2) from 149/Grand to Nevins St.

(6) in 2 sections: Pelham Bay Pk to 138/3rd and 96 St to Brooklyn Bridge.

Shuttle buses run to (around the sinkhole) 138/Grand, 138/3rd, 125/Lex, 116/Lex, 103/Lex, 96/Lex, and 86/Lex.

 

(A) in 2 sections: 207 St to 145 St via Local and 72 St to Far Rockaway via Exp

(B) runs via (Q) to 57 St or Astoria

(C) suspended, use (E)

(D) in 2 sections: 205 St to 145 St via Local and 59 St to Coney Island (Exp in Manhattan)

(E) extended to Lefferts via (C) and (A)

Shuttle buses run from 145 St to 135 St, 125 St, 116 St, 110 St, 103 St, 96 St, 86 St, 81 St, 72 St, and 59 St.

 

Advised to use (1)(2)(3)(5) and MNRR if possible.

ok, imagine this:

The tunnels that carries the (4), (5), (6) in and out of the Bronx and Manhattan, broke and there needed to be service to be put back in service. What would you do to bring back service. I would make the (5) operate over the (2) line, the (4) in two directions from Woodlawn to 149 Street-Grand Concourse and Grand Central-42 Street to Atlantic Aveune, and the whole (6) line will run in a shuttle from Pelham Bay Park to 3 Ave-138 Street. Also there's no local service.

A small earthquake (and they do happen up here, even if rarely) catches the MTA off-guard and splashes a bit of water over the city. Coney Island yard and most of the Sea Beach line (up to New Utrecht Avenue) is out of service. Water pushed up the Hudson and East rivers causes minor flooding in the east river tubes south of the bridge crossings.

 

Armed robbers, taking advantage of the panic cause chaos in small pockets of the system with possible deaths/injuries requiring police activity at:

  • (1) 207 Street uptown platform
  • (4) 170 Street southbound platform
  • (A)(C)(E) Chambers Street to Canal Street A man with a paper bag over his head fled into the tunnel after a successful robbery.
  • (L) Sutter Avenue tracks An assailant appears to have been chased by his potential victim into the tracks and electrocuted to death.
  • (B)(Q)(R) DeKalb Avenue Manhattan-bound platform

 

 

(1): Northbound trains run express Dyckman Street-207th Street.

(4): Southbound trains run express Burnside Avenue-167th Street.

(A): Via 8 Av/CPW Local - Rutgers Street Tunnel.

(B): Suspended.

(C): Via Rutgers Street Tunnel. Select n/b trains run to High Street.

(E): Via Houston Street to 2nd Avenue.

(F): Select trains via Crosstown, in b/d.

(L): No service b/w Broadway Junction & Canarsie.

(M): Via Nassau Street to Chambers Street.

There was a reckless driver that had this "race car", going at 50 mph, and didn't know about the closed road, and when seeing the closed road, crashed into another column at 74th Street-Broadway, and that collapsed onto Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue. Flushing to Queensboro Plaza (non-stop; via LIE Westbound, Northern Eastbound)

Flushing to Queensboro Plaza, Limited stop (only stops at Flushing, WIllets Point, Junction Blvd, Woodside, and Queensboro Plaza

Willets Point to Queensboro Plaza

 

(NOTE: For stations Junction Blvd to 61 Street, buses will stop on 37 Avenue instead of Roosevelt Avenue)

 

(E) Runs in two sections: Queens Plaza-WTC and 71St Avenue and Jamaica Center OR 179 Street

(F) Terminates at 21 St- Queensbridge

(M) Runs to Chamber Street

(R) Service terminates at 57 Street- 7  Avenue (skipping 49 Street)

(N)(Q) Run local in Manhattan EXCEPT FROM 2 PM-8 PM and 6 AM-11 AM (where they run Broadway Express, skipping 49 street northbound)

 

Shuttle Buses:

71st Av- Queens Plaza Express (71, 67, 63, Woodhaven, Grand, 46 Street (7), Queens Plaza

- Route 2: Queensboro Plaza - Queens Plaza - 71st Continental stopping at all (M) and (R) stations.

- Route 3: Flushing - Queensboro Plaza stopping at all (7) stations

- Route 3 LTD: Flushing - Queensboro Plaza stopping at only Flushing, Mets-Willets, Junction Blvd, and Queensboro Plaza.

- Route 3X: Flushing - Queensboro Plaza stopping at all <7> stations.

 

Cross-Honoring in effect at Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, and Woodside Stations.

2. IRT Lenox Av Shuttle Bus makes stops between 149th St-Grand Concourse and Central Park North-110th St with stop at Harlem-148th and 145th St.

3. IND Central Park West Shuttle Buses with make stops between 168th St-Washington Heights and 47th-50th Sts via 161st St-Yankees Stadium, 155th St Station.

 

During this time MNRR Harlem and Hudson Line will cross honor MetroCard at Woodlawn, Fordham, Melrose, Marble Hill, Harlem-125th St and Grand Central

Also during this time, MNRR will offer following subway shuttle train service.

1. Between Fordham and Grand Central.

2. Between Yankees-East 153rd St and Grand Central.

Court Square (23rd-Ely)-Chambers Street

LIMITED (E) service runs to Northern Boulevard via local after Queens Plaza

Single track shuttles run on both local tracks between 71st-Continental and Elmhurst Avenue.

 

(F) runs in two sections:

179th Street to 71st-Continental

21st-Queensbridge to Coney Island

LIMITED (F) service runs to Northern Boulevard via local after 21st-Queensbridge

 

LIRR Cross-honors all MetroCards between Penn Station and both Flushing and Jamaica.

 

Separate shuttle buses run as follows:

 

Between Queensboro Plaza (stopping at Queens Plaza and 21st-Queensbridge) and 71st-Continental.

Between Queensboro Plaza and Main Street-Flushing.

 

(G) is extended to Northern Boulevard, where it terminates.

 

(M) is re-routed to the Nassau Street Line, Montague Street Tunnel and 4th Avenue, running to 95th Street-Bay Ridge Brooklyn to replace the (R), which is suspended during this time.

 

(Q) runs via the tunnel in Manhattan to replace the (R) along Broadway.

 

For service to Canal Street and points between there DeKalb Avenue, take the (M) or (Q) during this time.

 

For service to Canal Street and points north via 4th Avenue, take or switch to the (N) train at express stops.

Assuming both have happened:

 

(A) runs as follows:

Lefferts Boulevard trains run local from Columbus Circle to West 4th and via the (F) between West 4th and Jay Street (normal route otherwise, INCLUDING LATE NIGHTS, eliminating the late-night shuttle).

 

Other (A) trains in Manhattan from 207th Street run to the Chambers Street (A) platform (and are express in Manhattan, except late nights).

 

Single-track shuttle runs between Chambers and Fulton Street.

 

ALL Rockaway trains are re-designated as (H) and run to Far Rockaway or Rockaway Park from High Street (LATE NIGHTS: (H) runs via the old round-robin shuttle route in the Rockaways before going to High Street).  There is no Rockaway Park (S) during this time since the (H) would be running between there and High Street.

 

(C) runs normal route to West 4th and then via the (M) and (J) to the Broadway Junction (J) platform (Except late nights).

 

(E) runs on the express track and skips 23rd and Spring Street, but runs normal route otherwise (some (E) trains as needed run local in Queens to replace the (M).

 

(M) goes to Broad Street with the (J) during this time.

 

(R) runs in Brooklyn to Court Street at ALL TIMES, including late nights and weekends (no running over the bridge).

 

Manhattan (R) runs as it did between Whitehall Street and 71st-Continental, including weekends (late nights: Single-track shuttle on the uptown track between Whitehall and the tunnel level of Canal Street).

 

(N) and (Q) are unaffected.

Okay, what I would do is:

(7) between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square. Four single track shuttles are running, two between 33rd St and 69th St, and the other two between 82nd St and 103rd St.

(B) runs via 6th Av local as supplement for (F).

(E) to Queens Plaza.

(F) no service between Northern Blvd and Forest Hills.

(M) to Essex St.

(R) to 71st Avenue.

(7) suspended

 

(E)(F)(M)(R) bypass the station at slow speed in both directions

Going to re-do this one because I mis-read this the first time about things remaining as they were in 2010.  Assuming both tunnel shutdowns happened:

 

(A) runs as follows:

Lefferts Boulevard trains run local from Columbus Circle to West 4th and via the (F) between West 4th and Jay Street (normal route otherwise, INCLUDING LATE NIGHTS, eliminating the late-night shuttle).

 

Additional (A) trains in Manhattan from 207th Street run to the Chambers Street (A) platform (and are express in Manhattan, except late nights).

 

Single-track shuttle runs between Chambers and Fulton Street.

 

ALL Rockaway trains are re-designated as (H) and run to Far Rockaway or Rockaway Park from High Street (LATE NIGHTS: (H) runs via the old round-robin shuttle route in the Rockaways before going to High Street).  There is no Rockaway Park (S) during this time since the (H) would be running between there and High Street.

 

(C) runs normal route to West 4th and then via the former late 1960s-'70s (K) route to the Broadway Junction (J) platform (Except late nights).

(J)(M) and (N) are unaffected

 

(Q) runs local in Manhattan and is extended to Ditmars Boulevard-Astoria on weekdays.  Normal (express) route to 57th Street-7th Avenue evenings and weekends (local overnights).

 

(V) is absorbed by the (C) running to Broadway Junction.

A freak accident on Lexington Ave-63rd St from the SAS left the station useless. In addition, the East Side Access project has once again drilled into the 63rd St line, but this time, collapsing the entire thing. Also, due to the authority worrying so much about what has just happened, the 53rd St corridor (including Queens) was just plum forgotten and the signaling went haywire, limiting the max capacity to 15 TPH (intervals of ever 4 minutes, and the (E) runs at 4 minute intervals.) They have then done a good job on making sure that the (E) is the exact spacing, and has increased intervals on the (E) to every 5 minutes. But somehow, the signaling at 59th Street also limited it to a bit more than 10 TPH (don't ask how). What a mess for the (MTA)!

 

Change Service On: (4)(5)(6)(E)(F)(M)(N)(Q)(R).

Change Service On: 4/5/6/E/F/M/N/Q/R.

I'm going to assume 10TPH on each Track at 59th Street and the entire 63rd Street section is unusable at all for this purpose and this will be for an extended period:

 

(4) trains from Woodlawn and (6) trains from Pelham Bay Park are cut back to 10TPH each

Select (4) trains from Brooklyn terminate at Wall Street, Brooklyn Bridge or Grand Central and from Woodlawn terminate at 86th Street.

Additional (6) trains from Pelham Bay Park end and begin at 86th Street in Manhattan or 3rd Avenue in The Bronx.

 

(5) runs via the (2) between 149th-GC and Nevins Street when capacity does not permit normal Lexington Avenue service.  If necessary, some (5) service terminates at 180th Street or 149th-GC in The Bronx.

 

(C) temporarily is re-routed to and replaces the (M) in Brooklyn and Queens (moving there south of West 4th), running from Metropolitan Avenue in Queens to 168th Street in Manhattan (This includes weekends, but not overnights, when the Metropolitan-Myrtle shuttle is still running).

 

(E) runs via 8th Avenue express and temporarily is extended to Euclid Avenue in Brooklyn to replace the (C) there, except overnights when it runs to Chambers as it does now.  Select (E) trains (usually those to/from 179th in Queens) still terminate at Chambers during rush hours.

 

A temporary (K) train, running 2-4 TPH runs via 8th Avenue local between Chambers and 168th Streets (except overnights).

 

(F) service is split as follows during peak hours:

Manhattan service from Coney Island to 57th Street-6th Avenue

Direct Queens service from Brooklyn service runs via the (G) between Bergen Street and Roosevelt Avenue (express after Queens Plaza)

Off-peak and overnights only: All service via 53rd Street as capacity allows with a single-track shuttle between 47th-50th and 57th Street.

(G) is extended to 179th Street to replace lost (F)(M) and (R) service in Queens.

 

A temporary (V) train operates between 2nd Avenue and 57th Street during peak hours only.

 

(N) is restricted to 10TPH to Queensboro Plaza.

All other (N) trains terminate at Times Square or 57th Street-7th Avenue.

 

(Q) to Times Square or 57th Street-7th Avenue ONLY and is local in Manhattan.

 

(R) runs as follows:

Weekdays: To Canal Street (tunnel level) ONLY with select (R) trains terminating at Whitehall Street.

Evenings and Weekends: To 57th Street-7th Avenue as capacity allows.  Same as weekdays if capacity north of Canal does not allow for it.

A small earthquake (and they do happen up here, even if rarely) catches the MTA off-guard and splashes a bit of water over the city. Coney Island yard and most of the Sea Beach line (up to New Utrecht Avenue) is out of service. Water pushed up the Hudson and East rivers causes minor flooding in the east river tubes south of the bridge crossings.

 

Armed robbers, taking advantage of the panic cause chaos in small pockets of the system with possible deaths/injuries requiring police activity at:

  • (1) 207 Street uptown platform
  • (4) 170 Street southbound platform
  • (A)(C)(E) Chambers Street to Canal Street A man with a paper bag over his head fled into the tunnel after a successful robbery.
  • (L) Sutter Avenue tracks An assailant appears to have been chased by his potential victim into the tracks and electrocuted to death.
  • (B)(Q)(R) DeKalb Avenue Manhattan-bound platform

(1): Northbound trains run express Dyckman Street-207th Street.

(4): Southbound trains run express Burnside Avenue-167th Street.

(A): Via 8 Av/CPW Local - Rutgers Street Tunnel.

(B): Suspended.

(C): Via Rutgers Street Tunnel. Select n/b trains run to High Street.

(E): Via Houston Street to 2nd Avenue.

(F): Select trains via Crosstown, in b/d.

(L): No service b/w Broadway Junction & Canarsie.

(M): Via Nassau Street to Chambers Street.

(Q): No service b/w Jay Street-Metrotech and Atlantic Avenue. Via Broadway Local - Tunnel. Select s/b trains run normally. Select n/b trains run via West End/4 Av Exp from Coney Island. Select n/b trains terminate at Prospect Park.

(R): Via Bridge - Broadway Express.
