How to get to Atlantic City from NYC Penn Station...if possible?

With the discontinuation of ACES, you'll have to go to 42nd Street via subway or M34A +Select bus and take an Academy or Greyhound in bus the Port Authority Bus Terminal. I believe there are other companies you can use as well.

As Orion said, the direct ACES train service from NY-Penn station has been cut. Thus only way is by the PABT from NYC.

 

If you just going to AC to 'hang out' and not gamble, best advice is taking NJT's #319 bus. It runs every 1-2 hours every day from about 5am-12 Midnight. Fare is about $35-one way. Here link to #319 schedule.

However if you do plan to gamble and visit the casinos then greyhound is your best bet.(no pun intended)I believe if you go to the Greyhound website they have packages where you get not only the bus ticket but also vouchers for free games on the slot machines and even discounts off the price of resturants in the casinos as well.

Also Tinamarie if you live in the outerboros or Manhattan, there might be also direct 'charter line' runs to AC in which you don't have to go to Manhattan. Do an online search say if you live in Middle Village or Bayside for those runs.

Ah, forgot the 319. Just remember, the 319 makes stops in Toms River and isn't direct to AC like Academy and Greyhound are.

If you want to fan jersey just use megabus/bolt to philly for 400 series NJT LINES done I do it all the time

I believe it's $35 for the #319. I thought that's why he recommended Greyhound instead of the #319.

319 fares to AC are interesting. From PABT its $35.75 one way but only $39 round trip. The round trip must be purchased in advance and used within 10 days, however.

 

Same for the 551 to/from Philly. One way is $16.50, round trip $19.

If you were to take the train, it would be a grueling 3-4 hour journey that takes you from penn to trenton, then on septa's R7 to philly 30th street station, then a transfer to NJT's atlantic city line. lol

Checkmate never been on the #559 line before. You realize the normal daytime trip between AC and Lakewood is almost 3 hours. Talk about needing a mega bath room break. Sorry Checkmate way wrong on the idea. If any the only extension for the 559 or say the #67 is extending to Toms River summer weekend only. It only an extra 10-15 minutes.

 

How about just a new local bus between Toms River and Point Pleasent? And lets back to topic.

That still takes pretty long, takes nearly three hours just to get to the location where the River Line/ACL connect at.

 

Bus takes somewhere around two hours, bus is the easiest, quickest option from NYC to AC.

Trainfan while "Normally" it takes 2 hours from NYC-AC, during the summer holiday season *cough* Friday evenings towards South Jersey and *cough* Sunday afternoon/evenings towards NYC, the GSP(Garden State Parkway) can become a parking lot. That 2 hour trip can easily become 3 hours after an accident.

i agree with railfaner. i done this except i was in one of the town by north jersey coast line. i wanted to go to ac by train. it does take that long to get there. however you can shorten the trip time on weekday when everything is in full force. you can buy both njt and septa in one package. There is a trenton express but it doesn't line up well with septa train. the septa train take an hour to go local to philly. then you have to wait at 30 street station and buy the ticket there as well just for ac train..wait time could be 30 minutes or so. then it another hour and 20 minutes or so to reach atlantic city. if you got patience then you should do it but if you don't then take academy bus.

 

there is a way to do both train and bus. you can take the north jersey coast line to south amboy. then there like a 20 minutes walk up the hill to get to the cheesequake rest area. yes there a street access to the rest area. then you can take bus to ac that way. But one problem, you need to be there at least one bus early then you anticipated because the seat available on first come first serve basis. there is a dispatcher who know who is first. if the bus is full then ou have to wait for the next one. i am not sure how far apart these days in wait time for next bus. At that time i was doing this, it was 45 minutes to hour.

I say this. Taking either the bus or other mass transit or driving between NYC and AC during the summer, better add at least 1 hour extra to the trip Fridays appx. 3pm-8pm AC-Bound and Sundays 4pm-9pm NYC-bound.

BINGO! Some bus and/or train enthusiastics don't mind the long ride and maybe expensive ride just for the ride and to have some fun, Mind you, when I was working at NJT, I loved to take long trips. #319 to AC, #551 to Philly, walk in Philly a little bit, R7 Train to Trenton, Amtrak to NWK Penn Station, #108 back home. Never paid a penny due to the network of hard working and dedicated transit folks. That is why I loved NJT because you know when you need to go somewhere, there was someone that took care of you: either Bus or Train. Septa and Amtrak could of been an dick but they didn't. Asking with respect and kindness will go a long way. I miss NJT and I hope one day I can come back.
