Speaking of the R188, what do you think could have been done differently?

 

I honestly don't like that they upgraded the R142s, and that the R188s should have had FINDs.

 

 

Where do you expect 11-car trains equipped with Flushing CBTC packages to run aside from the 7? And if the cars are only going to run on the 7, why waste money replacing a perfectly functional strip map system that's perfectly adequate for the line and is more legible than a FIND?

Like ttcsubwayfan said. Plus, if you suggest something and they answer you, no need to be upset. It's a public forum. Not everyone agrees on what's going to be/being done but if you don't want people to post their disagreements to your opnion, just don't comment. Instead, think about the way you say things and your posting style first. AndrewJC was, however, indeed correcting you, not insulting you or anything. Just relax and stay cool.

Ok. I am not a complete Transit devoted person who knows everything about what, when, where, and everything you know. I did not know that the cars were only were compatible on the (7). TBH, I don't even know what CBTC is.

 

Give me some slack, not all of us dedicate ourselves to this.

The purpose of the R188 order is to create a fleet which is capable of running with the new signalling system being installed on the 7, known as CBTC. As substantially fewer additional cars were needed than are needed on the 7, most of the trains will be converted from existing R142As. The purpose of this conversion is to make the cars work with the signalling system. As such I don't quite know why people keep on expecting loads of new systems to be found on these cars. For the most part, they are R142As rebuilt for the sole purpose of making them able to run on the 7 after the new system is in place.

I wasn't bashing you - I was simply stating why your suggestion made no sense. I have nothing against you personally.

 

In the five months since I got here, I've posted 165 (make that 166) times and gotten 112 likes. That's a pretty good ratio, I think, and I don't shy away from controversial topics.

I'm just curious, what did you think the purpose was of the R188 order?

 

The cars will in principle be able to run anywhere (except Canarsie, with its incompatible CBTC system), but no other cars will be able to run on the Flushing line once CBTC is completed, so it's unlikely that any of the 5-car sets will wind up elsewhere, and the 6-car sets are completely useless on the rest of the IRT, since the Flushing line is the only one that can run 11-car trains.

Not for nothing kid, but could you stop it with the dumb questions. It has already been stated time and again that no one really knows where the 62As will wind up at. In this very thread no less. The only certainties we have are: 1) the 142AMs/188s will run on the 7 in the near future, and 2) the 62As will be displaced. To where has yet to be determined. When we know, you'll know. Spamming this thread (and the forum in general) will not solve anything. All it will lead to is you being banned.

Look, you've been told repeatedly by the mods and members of this forum to stop asking these dumb questions. Nearly all of them have no basis in facts and in reality.

Dude, give up and take a damn English class. The trolling is bad enough with PROPER English, but this? This is an embarrassment.

 

On a related note, we're still waiting for more cars to be delivered, and for them to enter active revenue testing. Several dates have been thrown out already, so I have no idea why people continue to ask the same questions over and over again without going back and just reading. The responsible members of this forum aren't here to pick up for your (you people know who you are) slack. So this has been said before and again: just sit back, and wait. Things will change when they change, and until they change, nothing is absolutely set in stone.

Okay guys, let's chill, relax, and get back on topic.

 

Depotofrelax, you've already been told about the things you did wrong ever since you came in this site. I suggest that you should just stop, change your ways, and start out again as new.

 

Anyway as much as I want to stick to the things that I want to grow up with and keep the current assignments the way it is because I like the way the car assignments are (call me a foamer if you want...), I understand why this entire Flushing CBTC/R188 project has to be done due to the (7)<7>'s isolation and the IRT Flushing Line's oldest signaling system. Once the R62As from Corona return to one of the Lexington Avenue routes, I'll be mad but just ride the train and not complain since it will still get me from point A to point B. And that's enough for me as well as some riders, if they put up with it. A train is a train.

To be honest, I originally thought that they would retire the R62s, or R62As for the literal people. Then I find out they pull an R160 and make some slight modifications. I never knew that anywhere in the subway had 11 Cars. I thought it was always for R46 length trains, 2 Car, 4 Car, 6 Car, and 8 Car; And for R160 length, 4 Car, 6 Car, 8 Car, and 10 Car.

 

I never knew that the (7) and the R142M/188 had CBTC, I never knew what CBTC was. I knew they were going to the (7), but I thought they were just trying to get rid of the R62s out there, or R62As for the people who want to be super specific.

Nothing was going to be retired. The trains can stay around for at least 11-15 more years at minimum, if they were to last at least 40 years. Basically think of it as a swap and some extra trains which will also be used for: (7) extension to the Javits center, and various surplus trains for the mainline.

(7) always ran 11-car trains since the start (for the most part, but if there were exceptions anyone can feel free to chime in here). When they had redbirds, the 11th car is taken out because it doesn't have a/c and it runs 10 car trains. Now that it has R62As, it's 11 cars 24/7/365.

 

R142As never had CBTC, they were equipped to have CBTC installed.
