6 Lexington Ave Posted November 30, 2012 Share #1451 Posted November 30, 2012 Why is everyone assuming that the r62A's are going on the Lexington Avenue line and/or/maybe the 7th avenue line. What if the MTA decides to do something else with them. Who knows FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! Let's just wait and see and focus on the delivery process now. It's been discussed beyond death!!
LTA1992 Posted November 30, 2012 Share #1452 Posted November 30, 2012 They might decide to do something else, it is the . So far, all of the sources and information provided have suggested that the will get R62A's. The reason being that the is completely R142A, and those cars are being converted and sent to the . Not to mention the circle/diamond displays.
Guest Lance Posted November 30, 2012 Share #1453 Posted November 30, 2012 Some of those don't seem right... That's because they probably aren't. For the purely new 188s, the consist numbers should be consistent, but for the insert cars, they won't be consecutive. Just to make a point, the first insert car, which I believe is numbered 7921, will be somewhere within the 10-car converted set of 7811-20.
mtattrain Posted December 1, 2012 Share #1454 Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) ^^ Yeah I knew it was going to be like that, tho there were rumors that numbers as low as 7899 were also single. Edited December 1, 2012 by mtattrain
Art Vandelay Posted December 1, 2012 Share #1455 Posted December 1, 2012 There are no single cars in this order. There ARE cars which will be inserted into 5 car sets to make them 6 car sets. I know most people know this, but I have seen some confusion regarding this so I wanted to clarify. YES the cars will have to come from either 7th avenue or Lex, as those are the only other lines in the IRT system besides the 7. Yes, they will almost certainly come from the Lex, namely the 4/6 as that is where the cars to be converted currently run.

Fan Railer Posted December 2, 2012 Share #1459 Posted December 2, 2012 They should have just taken out all of the trailer trucks in the conversion sets in my opinion. And build the new R188s fully motored. It would lend for better acceleration and maintaining of balancing speed once CBTC takes effect.
Snowblock Posted December 2, 2012 Share #1460 Posted December 2, 2012 Why does everybody keep questioning where Corona's fleet is going to go? It's going to be either Westchester or Mosholu, and Westchester is most likely.
R142a 4 Bronx Expres Posted December 2, 2012 Share #1461 Posted December 2, 2012 I think the Westchester yard is going to lose their R142As to the Corona yard, the 4 train needs its R142As for yankee games since it has wider doors than the R62a.

RollOver Posted December 2, 2012 Share #1466 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) I don't care...It's not like the Transit Authority nor the themselves announce in their site where Corona's soon-former equipment will be going...All we know is that Westchester's equipment will be transferring to Corona and be redesigned... EDIT: While the so-called "Westchester/Corona" swap is the original plan, nothing still isn't set in stone of it. Nor for any other IRT mainline depot...... RollOver Posted December 3, 2012 Share #1471 Posted December 3, 2012 So anyway, the differences between the and is that one has refurbished, redesigned, and second-hand cars while the other has a new fleet. How they are alike is their isolation and countdown clocks. The Flushing Line is like the Pelham Line with local and express with the same cars (Redbirds, R62As, and R142As). Damn, the and are twins and identical to each other.

Wow, that means nothing and doesn't make sense. That's like saying that the 75 footers need to stay on fully local lines 'cause they're too "heavy" to go fast on express runs..... Subwayfan12 Posted December 3, 2012 Share #1475 Posted December 3, 2012 Why are people quick to assume that the is getting the r62A's.
