Grand Concourse Posted October 31, 2012 Share #1401 Posted October 31, 2012 Woah, woah, woah. Looks like the sets are going to be ACBBA, and ACBBBA. Who knew? Why would there need to be an ACBBA set? Plus didn't someone say there might be an entire 6 car set that's just the R188?
Fresh Pond Posted October 31, 2012 Share #1402 Posted October 31, 2012 Got any idea, if they'll do it on the weekend? I;m going down there this weekend, and if they do weekend test runs, i'll go over there. Who knows when the trains themselves are running given the current state that everything is in...the testing was probably postponed
RPTA Posted October 31, 2012 Share #1403 Posted October 31, 2012 Kawasaki doesn't sell its own propulsions in the United States. The MITRAC propulsion for the R142As and R143s were chosen before Bombardier bought AdTranz, so I'm not sure if Kawasaki would use a propulsion from one of its chief competitors for the new R188s. Kawasaki and Alstom seem to have a good relationship, so perhaps they could choose Alstom propulsion. Siemens is another possibility as well.

Grand Concourse Posted October 31, 2012 Share #1405 Posted October 31, 2012 I mean, why not just leave that 5 car set as is and just have the C car inserted instead of replacing a B car. That was the basic idea about inserting the extra car in an existing 5-car set to make it 6 cars.

East New York Posted November 2, 2012 Author Share #1411 Posted November 2, 2012 That has been public for a long time now Yes, we know this, however when I was having a conversation with one of our staff members it was brought to my attention that many people did not know a few details, so I posted them. Is that alright with you?
Art Vandelay Posted November 2, 2012 Share #1412 Posted November 2, 2012 I was not replying to you there- I was intending to reply to: "Woah, woah, woah. I should have quoted the post for clarity and apologize for any confusion.
Fan Railer Posted November 2, 2012 Share #1413 Posted November 2, 2012 About this tachometer business, the "engine tachometer" which is in the link Guira1283 posted is NOT the tachometer in question here. Make sure you read the "railway tachometer" section instead. It will be used to sense wheel speed and track the location of the train. Also, go to 3:25 in this video to hear the mention of the tachometer in the MTA CPOC board meeting in February 2012:
Subwayfan12 Posted November 16, 2012 Share #1414 Posted November 16, 2012 So basically, the mta is downgrading most of the and lines from new technology to old technology trains that are half way there to their deaths. Makes sense and this is one of the smartest plans the mta has ever made.

As long as the bloody trains work and will get you from the Bronx to Downtown, why is this even important?

Subwayfan12 Posted November 16, 2012 Share #1421 Posted November 16, 2012 I took a ride on a r62a today and after that experience i wouldn't have a problem with the r62a being on the and . I am a daily rider of both lines. Even though the r62a's has less space than the r142a and sounds more heavier, it would be fair if the and get another taste of the r62As

yeayo Posted November 19, 2012 Share #1424 Posted November 19, 2012 They haven't made any propulsion changes with the conversion sets. We'll have to wait 'till around Christmas to see what they use in the brand new sets. The propulsion is going to the be essentially the same for compatibility purposes. Some subcomponents in the actual equipment for the new cars will be different because of obsolescence and high failure rates.
