Harry Posted August 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2014 Attention ladies and gentlemen, this express train is making all local stops because of cat traffic up ahead. The MTA diverted and trains onto local tracks through a stretch of Brooklyn for more than two hours Thursday because a wayward cat was on the loose. A signal maintainer spotted the feline in a wide underground area north of the 36th St. station at Fourth Ave. at 11:51 a.m., the MTA said. The worker alerted the rail control center, prompting dispatchers to direct southbound trains to use local tracks from DeKalb Ave. to 36th St. Dispatchers also re-routed southbound N trains to local tracks between Dekalb and 59th St., the MTA said. Normal service didn’t resume until 2:04 p.m., after the signal maintainer finally managed to corral the feline.Read more: Source

CenSin Posted August 2, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 2, 2014 The subway should be closed for a few hours each night with feral cats released into the tunnels, followed by a work train to pick up the cats in the morning.
S78 via Hylan Posted August 2, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 2, 2014 I remember something similar happened along the Brighton Line, but I believe they suspended service for a few hours rather than just rerouting trains.
peacemak3r Posted August 2, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 2, 2014 Only 2 hours? Psh, this happened on the Brighton's and at Church Avenue and it totally screwed up the morning rush-hour commute.
Lance Posted August 2, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 2, 2014 Meh. This is one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations. If the MTA allowed service to operate normally and a train killed these cats (this one and the ones from the Brighton incident a few months back), they never would've heard the end of it. I think they want to avoid potential BIEs if the cat's body got cought up under the train.

CenSin Posted August 4, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 4, 2014 What exactly did running the trains local accomplish? Gave room for the signal maintainer to run around and catch the cat. The trains roaring on both sides of the express tracks would also keep the cat centered in the tunnel.
