Hello all, i have some questions about training for MTA Conductor. Can anyone explain to me what the 7 weeks of training contains?

I will like to know where and what time are the reporting time for training everyday?

Does most newbies end up in PM tours?

Where do we report to work everyday onces training is done? Do we report to a Train yard with parking lot? or report at any station they assign you that day? meaning report at different location everyday as a " Extra extra"?

I have these concerns, because i'm in the 3/19 class, but have to care for a ill family member, so was hoping the training, and work hours are during the day, so i can care for my family at night.

Or should i call to postpone my Training? Will take allow to put me on the next class? or i have to wait all over again? Thanks

For the first week of schoolcar you will be at 130 Livingston for the first couple days then P.S. 248 (aka the Learning Center) for the rest of the week. You will get your supplies during the first week. After the first week, you will report to different yards in your division. For the first week, most of the meeting times were at 8:00 AM, but the rest of the days you meet at 10:30 AM.

At the end of your training, you will get a "wishlist" where you will request your tour and days off of choice. When your training is finished, your reporting location varies on your assignment. Most of the time it is a terminal station, but sometimes it is a tower.

Thank you so much for answering my questions. For the conductors that drives to work, do they have employee parking near some stations? Or we are on our own?

Some places have parking, but most of the time you are on your own.

I wonder how that works out for those living outside NYC. What about parking at a rail yard then taking the train @ a station near it? Is that how it is? I don't imagine terminals having designated parking for employees.

And its a major pain in the ass when your new and you don't know who your imidiete supervisor is. If I ever have to park in a yard I just throw a vest on the dash, if not on the street it goes. You guys think that you'll be able to park in a yard and walk to a terminal you have anothing thing coming to you. Its a waste of time. either find parking on the street, a lot or just take public transportation. Because when your on board and you drive to one place and get called to be on the other side of the world, What are you going to do? try to get there quick with your car and look for parking or get into an accident or stuck in traffic or a stuck car and now you ABD'd you train and there looking for you.

got a question.. So where you begin your tour is not where you end tour? also if you were on board for 2 hours, does that mean you work 6 more hours to make it a day? or 2 hours board+ 8 hours work= 10 hours?

1. Depends on your schedule, some jobs end somwhere else (B Div, I don't know A Div) or if they drop your trip, or you end in the yard with a lay-up because something went down. Anything can happen down here.

2. If your on board you might either pick up 1/2, remainder or a whole job. I don't think they let you work more than 12 hours on a job. If your on board you can pick up a mail job, or an escort job. Or even Platform so don't think its an easy 8 hour sit on your ass day.

Regarding being on Board.

If you're on board you can pick up a job, make a trip, pick up part of a job, or pick up nothing and just sit on the board for 8 hours. That job could be anywhere in your division, and could come at any time during your Board time. You could be sitting for 5 hours and they could tell you to go somewhere an hour away and work 2/3 of a job which takes 5 hours, and you got to do it.

They legally can't work you more than 16 hours in one day - but they're not that mean. You won't see more than 12 hardly ever. You have to give a call at 14 hours. That's a warning to "send someone else immediately" - MTA gets in trouble and pays fines if you work more than 16 hours so that won't happen.

Good advice however - don't ever make plans for after on a day you're on board.

To add to this, you could be assigned a job and then when you get to the terminal, you may find that the person you are replacing has come in to do their job. Also, the Crew Office might have assigned 2 people to one job. When all of that happens, you fall to the board and the Crew Office can find another job for you to do totally turning your day upside down. You might wind up doing nothing the whole 8 hrs. The board is a trip, to say the least lol

Yes Transit is still calling for Conductor and will stay calling until 2015, unless we have some sort of hiring freeze. Check a few pages back Seal, YOU should already know the drill. Plus you can call DCAS and at least get some sort of approximated info. I think they are close to 500 appointed.
