Abba Posted July 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2010 Train service is extended to Bowling Green Weekend, 12:01 AM Sat to 5 AM Mon, Jul 17 - 19 Is this gonna be an experiment to have it go there on the weekends permanently? I see it going there the next 2 weekends as well.
2 Train Master Posted July 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2010 They're doing this b\c there is no service in Manhattan also (4)/(6) run express S/B btwn Union Sq and Bklyn Br so I don't think there are switches before the bridge for the to switch to the local track then via loop. TwoTimer Posted July 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2010 The loop has trackwork in it at the moment. There is a diamond north of the bridge, but the loop itself is OoS forcing 6 trains to go to Bowling Green.
EE Broadway Local Posted July 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2010 So the extension is not due to the but rather to trackwork in the City Hall loop.

Of course there is a Junction before hitting Bk Bridge. It must be something related to the loop tracks otherwise the would go via CH Loop. Of course your proof: http://images.nycsubway.org/trackmap/bigdowntown.png I will be here of course!
Pelham Bay Dave Posted July 13, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2010 They are doing a chip out of the Uptown Local track in the Brooklyn Brdge/ City Hall station so Midnights and weekend service extended to Bowling Green and Wkend service shortlined between Dyre Ave and E 180 St.
N-Trizzy2609 Posted July 14, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2010 There were a few times the was using the loop because of trackwork in the tunnel, tho I believe they don't do that anymore.
TwoTimer Posted July 14, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 14, 2010 That was during related construction for FSTC and there were work trains in Fulton St itself.
bstar1 Posted July 14, 2010 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2010 The riders had a chance to take it to Fulton/Wall/Bowling Green station & vice versa.
E Local Posted July 15, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 15, 2010 In Wikipedia I read that there was only one rush hour train to run to Brooklyn (Atlantic avenue), the ONLY train to run to Brooklyn. which means that the ran to Bowling green before. TwoTimer Posted July 15, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 15, 2010 Co-workers have told me there was a run to Bowling Green back in the days of redbirds, they changed the signs and did a trip back up to Dyre, had lunch, went back to the Green early PM, then changed back to a and go to Pelham. Abba Posted July 18, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted July 18, 2010 Anyone think maybe they should send the on the weekends (only during daytime hours) to Flatbush Ave during the construction.Especally with the upcoming loss of the on weekends in Brooklyn? When that starts send it to New Lots? Abba Posted July 18, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted July 18, 2010 The goes to New Lots, that simple. True. But maybe the or could run express in Brooklyn and terminate at Utica. While the other one goes local after Nevins or Franklin to New Lots. They once extended the to Utica. Why not do something now? Abba Posted July 18, 2010 Author Share #18 Posted July 18, 2010 Is there really a need for it though, money is also used when you extend a route. There is I feel sort of a need because with the terminating at Bowling Green it will create some bottlenecking issues at Bowling Green.Extending it to Utica would allow either the or to run express in Brooklyn and also terminate at Utica which I feel is a better place to terminate trains.Im only saying this because of the not running to Brooklyn on the weekends soon. And again it's just me.But i feel it is needed. The problem with extending the to Brooklyn is that everybody would be confused, just as when the ran express to Utica in the past, the train was empty all the way to Atlantic until some people got on and it was a very very little amount, either way even if there is a need, nobody would take it since everybody would be confused as it isn't on the map. TwoTimer Posted July 20, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 20, 2010 The 6 is fine the way it is. During New Years this year I went to Utica as a crew (the had a 12-9 that night). We pulled into Nevins with a and everybody stayed on the lol. A few straglers came over and asked me if I was going to Utica express, and the second question came right after (why is there a in Brooklyn?). Right now, the loop is under medium-term construction, relegating the to shuttles until its finished in a few weeks. They have beefed up 4 service to compensate, the amount of TPH is equivalent to what it would have been had the been running all along.

TwoTimer Posted July 21, 2010 Share #24 Posted July 21, 2010 How often will the run? Normal weekend... 8 minute headway (7 1/2 tph), 12 minute headway (5 tph). Now 6 minute headway (12 tph) so really no letup in service. The pattern should be in effect a few weeks, they have the bank of lights from north of Brooklyn bridge all the way into the north end of the loop. They only doing the middle of the area right now.
