Blitz Posted April 3, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2012 132nd Street Depot became Manhattanville, 146 Street Depot became Mother Clara Hale, and most recently 100 Street Depot became Tuskegee Airmen. With 126th Street being the only depot named after an actual street left, will it be next? And if so what would be the most fitting name category? Honored person/group or area? I have three obvious choices in mind: Martin Luther King depot, Malcolm X depot (this one will probably never happen), or Spanish Harlem Bus Depot...Thoughts on my possible choices of your own suggestions are more than welcome

favbusbx13 Posted April 3, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2012 I like East Harlem.. maybe it'll change my mind of 126... I hate 126 honestly -,-

Metro CSW Posted April 3, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 3, 2012 Major Deegan Depot or Triborough Depot.
Grand Concourse Posted April 3, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2012 Major Deegan Depot or Triborough Depot. Both seem like good ideas. Maybe the RFK depot since it is near the RFK bridge I refuse to call it the RFK. It was a pointless renaming for some guy that isn't really associated with this city. At least JFK was a president and someone more deserving of something named for him, imo.

trainfan22 Posted April 3, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 3, 2012 I think it should be renamed Tupac Depot with his face as the logo. He was born in Harlem too!
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted April 3, 2012 Share #10 Posted April 3, 2012 Probable Name:Dr. Martin Luther King Depot Name that whoever will use it needs to go to their psychiastric: Nicki Minaj Depot, Maraj Depot, Something Depot, Randalls Island Depot, 125 street depot Names not chosen: Obama Depot, Manhattan Depot, East River Depot, Morningside Depot The depots that probably may not be chosen are self-explanitory to most people why. Blitz Posted April 3, 2012 Author Share #12 Posted April 3, 2012 East Harlem Depot was what I originally thought, but that's what they usually call this depot when they refer to it on the news.
Q43LTD Posted April 4, 2012 Share #13 Posted April 4, 2012 How about FDR depot, since it's near the FDR?
MHV9218 Posted April 4, 2012 Share #14 Posted April 4, 2012 East Harlem sounds the best although the media loves playing up Tuskegee as an East Harlem depot. Hope it stays 126th though just since I've always known it as that, like the Roman-numeral stickers as well.

aemoreira81 Posted April 4, 2012 Share #16 Posted April 4, 2012 I know I may catch flak for this, but what about Robert Moses?
Blitz Posted April 4, 2012 Author Share #17 Posted April 4, 2012 Although Robert Moses was a very influential figure in New York, he was kinda against use of public transit in certain areas for racial reasons...
MHV9218 Posted April 4, 2012 Share #18 Posted April 4, 2012 I know I may catch flak for this, but what about Robert Moses? Robert Moses was a classist and a racist. 126th is in a minority middle class neighborhood. Go figure on that one.

Leave it to you to bring class and race into the discussion... The Coqui Depot The Coquí Depot... LOL! Well what happens if Puerto Ricans aren't the majority in the area?? You do know that coquís are specific to Puerto Rico right?

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted April 4, 2012 Share #21 Posted April 4, 2012 I'm not debating that. I just don't see the need to bring it up in this conversation. There are a lot of debatable figures in our history that have things named after them. He wouldn't be the first and he won't be the last.
MHV9218 Posted April 4, 2012 Share #22 Posted April 4, 2012 I didn't bring him up, Adam mentioned him (and the fact that his name carries controversy), and that controversy is exactly what I'm talking about here.
Q43 Floral Park Posted April 4, 2012 Share #23 Posted April 4, 2012 I didn't bring him up, Adam mentioned him (and the fact that his name carries controversy), and that controversy is exactly what I'm talking about here. It would be the epitome of irony to name a bus depot after Robert Moses considering everything he did to minimize the growth of public transportation. I agree on East Harlem/MLK Depot as potential names
