Lance Posted November 15, 2018 Share #2309 Posted November 15, 2018 Probably because it isn't particularly useful beyond increasing service on Fulton St. Whenever the is diverted from the Culver line, the primary goal is to get riders from 6th Avenue to Hoyt-Schermerhorn where they can change over to the running to Coney Island in lieu. The weekend runs to Euclid Av only occur because the other option would be to terminate at Hoyt-Schermerhorn, forcing the to run local. That is not an issue during the overnight hours as the express tracks on Fulton St are empty at that time. While it's extremely beneficial for Fulton St riders by reducing wait times along the line, it serves no purpose in terms of the actual service change in place, hence why it isn't done any more.

I totally agree, especially your last sentence. To elaborate on said sentence, it basically overserves the Fulton St corridor for little reason. Overnight Fulton St service is okay with just the 20 minute headway with the alone instead of a 10 minute headway with both the and combined. In general, subway ridership at night is never higher than during the day and evening hours. Basically, the agency is just trying to maintain the same service frequency levels just like they would on a regular non-GO weekend. Because of track replacement between metropolitan ave and myrtle ave. J trains are running normal service to Manhattan. trains will be suspended every weekend from Dec 8 to the last weekend of January because of track replacement and also other critical work that has to be done to prepare for the train shutdown in april. The MTA released a press release on weekend work on the and that is related to the train shutdown.

Neither of those suggestions do anything aside from put the on the Culver line. While it may seem like service changes occur only to piss off riders, they are in fact done with a purpose in mind. All your idea does is over-serve the Culver line. Also, running the through Coney Island style just makes for a longer, and more delay-prone trip than the regular West End route. Besides, even if they wanted to run such a route, Brooklyn-bound trains are sharing the Rutgers track all week due to ongoing track replacement.
