When will they finish putting wifi on express buses?

Those should be the priority since they make the most sense to have wifi for long trips.

I thought they were done with those? Most of the buses I have seen from every depot have wifi.

The express buses are done.

I beg to differ...about half of the CP MCI's I took this week still don't have it installed (i.e. no wifi antenna in the parcel rack, no wifi sticker,  and no wifi signal when you search for it). None of the 2XXX have it and a good chunk of the 3XXX don't have it either.

Definitely not totally finished. They are getting closer,  but a lot from CP still don't have it (and I'm not counting the ones that have it installed but it malfunctions)

Why are the 12xx's getting done, but not the 2011 BTE units (80xx nova's, 70xx orions, and 48xx new flyers)??

these are the first local/SBS batches. The ones you mention will get theirs later

The low 2200, 2800 and 2900s aren't getting them as they are on the way out the door, why spend money on buses at EOL.

I don't think that's the point. The (MTA) has advertised the service as ALL express buses having them when they don't.  It's false advertising.  Customers become used to these things and when they don't have them, that's when they become pissed off (and rightfully so).  If they're getting rid of those buses they need to place the order already and move the buses out. I don't understand why they're holding on to these buses anyway. They were some of the worst on Staten Island. Nails sticking up through the seats, horrible shocks and so on.  They've gotten more than enough usage.

That new order has been sitting around for almost two years now and they haven't picked a vendor.  By the time they finalize the contract and the buses are built, you may be looking at three years before all of the express buses have Wifi and USB ports.

I think what you need to do is start contacting your elected officials and raise hell.  These are some of the worst express buses out of Staten Island.  They were run into the ground.  I know because I used to ride them. X27 and X28 riders did just that when they they got sick of getting Staten Island's run down fleet.  Senator Golden sent the (MTA) a letter requesting updated fleet and the (MTA) agreed. Since a good portion of the fleet still runs well, the (MTA) sees no need to finalize that contract. If they get pressure about run down fleet, they'll be forced to address the problem.

I had a feeling that was the case. Ugg.

When exactly will they be retired? And why did they both installing all the USB ports (which seems like a lot of tedious manpower, since it needs to go on every single seat) if that is their logic?

I haven't seen any  30XX series CP buses with WiFi either. Is that coincidence, or because those are also "out the door" soon? Plus, a good chunk of the 31XX and 32XX never got it installed either. I know complaining about WiFi seems trivial, but the express bus is essentially an extension of my office, so if I know I will have WiFi, it is a big game changer in terms of the work I set aside to do on the bus. But I can never be sure, which is frustrating

Why do you just tether?  I have an unlimited plan with Verizon... I know 15GB isn't a lot. You can through that very easily streaming and so on, but it's better than nothing.  I find their WiFi to be very buggy.

Unfortunately, my data plan has a very limited amount of allowed tethering, so I save that for when I absolutely must access the internet. I was thinking of changing my plan/carrier, but when news of the WiFi installation came out, I said "oh great, now I won't need to worry about data usage." That has only proven to be partially true.

I see... I think my Verizon unlimited plan dipped just under $100 a month.  I get unlimited data and 15GB of tethering. I dropped Verizon at home and just tether when I want to use the laptop or I use my phone since it's a good size screen.

That's good to know.  The truth is that besides for the bus, I really don't need the tethering so I'd rather not make that change unless truly necessary. But I digress from the topic...

It's not worth it anyway. The Wi-Fi on the express bus is spotty at best. I have Hulu and streaming shows and games would be impossible with the (MTA)'s free Wi-Fi.

Why are some entire depots (e.g. YN, EC, MV, CS, FR, JFK) left out? Do those passengers not "deserve" wifi?

In particular, the 7000-series New Flyer buses in FB (7304-7365) and LG (7438-7482) are getting wifi, but the buses between them (7366-7437 in CS) aren't.

I believe all of the Riverdale express buses have it, so if you want to out it that way... :D
