People need to buy RFID protector sleeves or cards for their Contactless credit cards that are not for OMNY use when travelling, and also watch where they wave their Smartphone around. There is nothing an OMNY system can do about that.

So the current active sections/lines are:

  • (1) whole line
  • (2) 241 to Chambers, Fulton, Nevins-Atlantic
  • (3)148 to Chambers, Fulton, Nevins-Atlantic
  • (4)Woodlawn to Atlantic
  • (5)Dyre to Atlantic
  • (6)<6> whole line
  • (7)<7>34-Times Sq, Grand Central
  • 42 St (S)whole line
  • (A)207 to Jay
  • (C)168 to Jay
  • (E)JFK, Lex/53, 50 to WTC
  • (B)161, 145-Laffayette, Atlantic
  • (D)161, 145-Laffayette, Atlantic
  • (F)47-Laffayette, Jay
  • (M)Lex-53, 47-Lafayette
  • (N)Lex/59, 42-Atlantic
  • (Q)42-Canal, Atlantic
  • (R)Lex/59, 42, 34, 14, Canal, Atlantic
  • (W)Lex/59, 42, 34, 14, Canal
  • (J)Fulton-Chambers
  • (Z)Fulton-Chambers
  • (G)none
  • Franklin (S)none
  • Rockaway (S)none

Is this correct @Around the Horn?

Sounds about right to me @Jova42R

It’s a little off for two reasons:

Reason 1: Park Place on the 2/3 was brought online when Chambers St/World Trade Center was, since it’s once complex.

reason 2:....

(clears throat)

ADD: Wall Street, Clark Street & Hoyt Street

unless Longwood Ave was just forgotten on the map, the entire mainline IRT north of Atlantic is online.

The new OMNY fare card was previously apparently planned (according to PCAC) to be sold only in non-MTA places, mainly retailers. I objected in a letter to the MTA CEO, because store markups would likely add $10-20 per new card or refill for low-income riders, or $120 to $1,040 a year above what the MTA would collect from retailers. However, now it's said that OMNY cards will also be sold by the MTA in MTA facillities, like the MetroCard is now. Good.

Also, it appears that OMNY card readers are being installed in buses at the back doors even on non-SBS buses. Also good.

Two things:

A: I don't know what you were reading because that was always the plan.

B: Stores can't charge markups for MetroCard, why would they be able to charge markups for pre-loaded OMNY?

The prepaid OMNY cards in stores will roll out first because it will take time to upgrade/replace the vending machines.

Metrocards are not marked up in stores. The store makes a small commission selling them, which is probably less cost to the MTA than servicing the machines for those batches.

I imagine it would be the same for OMNY card purchases and refills, except that there will be a new card fee charged similar to other transit systems.

I believe so, why else would they have an OMNY account online?

True, but maybe that is for Smartphone, debit, or credit cards only. Notice the usually associate the future OMNY Card with those who want to use cash.

I would refill an omny using a tax free transit benefit debit card. The people who use transit benefits will be users of the omny card as well
