Unplanned Subway Service Changes

According the MTA that incident is now over. However there seems to be a (4) and a (5) train stuck right before Borough Hall 2 min away both trains. Also it seems that Manhattan bound service was affected also.Probobaly it was more then your average mechanical problem. This also affected service northbound.Seems like there were no N/b trains for a while.Seems like the first (5) train is on its way there now.

Due to signal problems at Lexington Av, the following service changes are effect:

Northbound (N) trains are running with delays.

Some northbound (R) running on the line from 57 St to 36 St (Queens).

There is no (Q train service between 57 St-7 Av and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd in both directions.

Allow additional travel time.

Earlier there was a stalled train here. And according to the NYPD scanner channel I believe the train almost needed a rescue train.

there was a delayed on the (B) and (Q) earlier due to police activity. the scene was a kitten was found hanging out near the third rail. it was a two hours suspension, but the kitten was never caught.

For 2 hours just for a kitten? Guess I can't say anything. A Kitten has feelings too.

I got caught in the middle of this in a big way.

I was on the 1824 ®omeo Whitehall, which got rerouted through the 63rd street tube. Only problem is - I'm pretty sure City Hall never told Queensboro Master Tower about us....

We sat there for 20+ minutes under Central Park on the 7av-63rd st connector. I could hear the T/O in the cab pretty emphatically calling control after a while, who responded pretty surprised that we were there: But assured us we'd have a lineup soon. (it was at least another 10 minutes). As I understand the delays at 59/lex were a track circuit problem, and maybe they weren't even looking at the 63rd st interlockings over at QBMT.

Actually that's an interesting point, who does have control over the interlocking between the IND and BMT on the 63rd st line? I presume it's Queensboro Master.

That would explain why there was an (RR) in front of me coming out of 57 St on the (F). I had a red signal that I got permission to key-by.

Does it really pay to post advisories of sick customers? They usually are resolved within 10 if not 5 min

Yes, I remember someone got sick on a Rockaway Park bound (A)  at High Street during the PM rush, the delay must have at least 15 minutes... man that platform was JAMMED at Jay Street, luckily I had to get off there.

Well, firstly, more information is better. A 5 minute delay during rush hour is enough to make some lines so crowded that a customer who could take a different line might want to do so. Also, remember that if trains get very crowded, dwell time goes up and the delays can easily stack to double or triple the original hold up. Customers might want to take the local instead of waiting for a delayed express, etc etc.

Secondly, it's hard for them to anticipate how long the delay will be. Sometimes all it takes is a nearby TSS to escort the customer off the train, and delays are limited to a few minutes. Other times, the train may have to stop and stay until paramedics arrive, which can take longer. I've heard both scenarios unfold on my scanner.

What a mess! Why are they suspending so much service south of 59 st?
