Are you okay? In all seriousness, you've been acting funky as of late.

Honestly: Having a bad week, it's stress, work related.... We all have our moments. Gotta laugh it off sometimes, I'll be fine.

Going to the break room to get some coffee. Carry on.

Regardless, thats a lot of space to air condition, especially in IND stations. Do you really think the MTA is going to spend money on HVAC units for every single station underground they put platform doors on em.

Oooh sarcasm, has someone ran out of real points to debate with?

It sounds like MTA will never bring any new to our system....even refurbishment...since they don't want to spend money...

Isn't the whole point of the MTA as a public benefit corporation to spend money that benefits everyone in and around the City? Shouldn't they be spending money?

There are more pressing issues then air-conditioned stations - have you seen the Sea Beach line?? That, along with the masses of other horror movie stations (Van Alst, Chambers/Nassau, all local stations on the Fulton IND) should all be seen to before we even consider the possibility of air-conditioned stations.

What's up with all these deteriorated stations anyway - is this related to the whole crisis in the 70s and 80s?

Doesn't mean MTA should not provide subway services anymore since they can't earn money by operating the system? :o

ok.....Back to normal discussion......

I think so, the age isn't the only reason of this problem. There are some railway systems >80 years old, but those systems have pretty good shapes.

Finally....I understand money is an issue, but it doesn't mean we could stop to plan (even plan, not doing immediately) for the future of our subway system....

Whats not to understand, if you fall 4-5 feet vs falling 40-50 feet, falling 40-50 feet is much more likely to kill you and thats why bridges have proper guardrails vs a train platform.

If you fall backwards or without anyway of supporting or bracing your self you could die or bleed to death....if you fell 5ft backwards into a shallow creek you would die....same with a subway....its a hard surface....

Its not like being high off the ground on a bridge where any way you fall over you are done for. If you fall down the stairs in a Subway station the wrong way you could injure yourself quite badly as well, are we gunna remove the stairs now too?

wiki-ed for the line in the first video.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamanote_Line

btw......i think those gates are included IR sensor, otherwise....

The space that between train and screen doors can't be that big.....otherwise it really causes the problem that some people stuck between the train and PSD......

They might have to go with slightly taller version of those, so that it would be hard to jump over; yet, the conductor could still observe the platform (that's another thing I always wondered about, if they got these doors).

Also, as wide as some of those are, it would give a lot of slack for stopping accuracy. Again, you could probably even verlap some of the panels, so you could have doors for both 60 and 75 ft.

As far as I know, no other American metro system uses platform screens except for the various airport trams and the Las Vegas Monorail which nobody uses.
lol, Vegas monorail, $5 wasted to walk thru the mazes of the casinos just to get back to the strip. It's the few cases the bus is better than rail. It's only good if you need to get from the MGM grand to formerly Sahara ASAP.

Or the Hilton, I rode it years ago when I was in Vegas to go to the Star Trek Experience before they closed that down.

Most people use The Deuce which is the bus that runs up and down the strip.
