Guys you won't believe this one......

An NJT driver got caught "pleasing himself" while in traffic in the Lincoln Tunnel.

Uh ......wow I mean i know traffic is bad but doing that in front of a woman door down thats insane. I hope who ever uses that seat may have to handsanitize the hell out of it. Lincoln tunnel is not a subititute for "pleasure" let alone the stress of jammed veichles

What's this place? I've taken pictures and seen it on the road, but I don't what it is exactly. Does it have a name?

Sad to see the novas just sitting there knowing their gonna get sold or scrapped. Them novas that are still at Orange still run good especially 1133 & 1332 which have a turbo sound. Also at the bottom right, are those buses next to the green containers are those 4001 - 4003 ?

Anybody else think NJT should release a MyBusNow app for iPhone and Android? It'd make finding buses a whole lot easier when you're on the go.

Well let me tell you about my little commute from hell today....

It starts off in New Brunswick with a 7 minute late 815.

I had a connection to the 131 (which I missed, keep reading to find out why) that I had to make.

Everything was going fine until I got to US-1/NJ-18 interchange. The light on Tunison Road (the road that takes you to the New Brunswick Hilton) was being worked on, which caused a detour. So the driver (for some strange reason) detoured up to EDISON to turn around and get back on '18. Which in turn, made me miss the 131.

But this is just the middle of the story. After finding out I missed the 131 (was hoping it was late at first, but turns out it wasn't), I walked to the Pizza Hut in Sayreville and grabbed a bite to eat. Then waited in this scorching heat for another 815 to South Amboy. But when I got there, I found out a bunch of trains were delayed because of o/head wire problems on the NEC. After 10-15 minutes, a train finally comes and takes me home. Thus ending my chances of getting heat stroke.

I believe Clever Devices has successfully created a BusTime app for the CTA, so they'd have to bring it up with them. Clever also makes the GTFS data for BusTime/MyBusNow so third party developers can develop their own apps.

Hopefully I can find one and put it on my iPhone. That story I told is another reason why NJT should set MBN up for the PABT routes quicker. It would've saved me the trouble of wondering whether the 131 had left or not.

Designline is basically to blame for that at this point (the EcoCoach order was supposed to be complete in May and we only have 10 buses). Once the MCI CNGs are out the door they should be able to expand it to the rest of the routes since they are the last buses without CDs.

Yeah.

What I don't understand is how the remaining CNGs are holding them back from putting CDs on the PABT routes, when they have them on running on the 63/64, 67, & 68 every day.

63/64/68 barely run CNGs ever, but yeah the 67 has them every day. Orange and Hilton still have a few RTS too, not to mention the GO25. But there's over 70 MCI CNGs, enabling BusTime on the PABT routes would result in a large number of untrackable 13x buses. Of course they could enable the rest of the state, but I think they're just trying to enable all of them at once.

NJT usually has the static schedule data, 2 weeks before schedule change... they export it to the telephone service, website, then MyBus, Clever Devices for the auto mode on board, then the GTFS

When i read the GTFS bus data, the trips are organized by block_id... the block_id numbers don't have the same numbers as the run numbers...

ie... 404NT020 is run 814 (run number prior to June 22nd) cuz it also does the 4:35 pm weekday 457 tripper from Camden to Moorestown Mall

Today's commute reminded me how wonderful people in this area really are...

Got on Academy 8589 on the 139 at Union Hill, and in Old Bridge these guys come on. One starts blasting his iPod with no consideration for the people trying to sleep (typically iPod blasting isn't done or accepted on the 139), then this other guy starts complaining that the op is driving too slow. And of course I'm sitting next to them the whole time on a full bus with nowhere to move to. So, I got no sleep and now I'm cooling off in the Marriott Marquis lobby with a headache.

  • 2 weeks later...

8619, 8650, and 8654 were all doing charter service down 5th Avenue today.

Yay Academy! I also saw one of their state buses go down the Thruway in Yonkers earlier signed up as "ACADEMY", not sure if there were passengers or not.

But, can't say that much bad about them, I lost my audio recorder last week on 8589 on the 139 and they found it and gave it back to me with no problems at all.

You referring to Academy, right? Cause last time you mentioned a peep on them you unleashed your fury against them

Yes, about the audio recorder.

I "unleashed my fury" because they steal from the State of New Jersey for their own financial gain, using publicly-funded, publicly-owned buses for expensive charter service. And not one of the people who thumbed down and bitched about my last comment (and will do so with this one) live in New Jersey, hell many do not live in these United States.

idk what is Academy's agenda, but since this is another topic for another day, i rather not comment about it until i see it for myself. if anything how about going to NJT's HQ to complain about it?

Well you won't have to look far, that's for sure.

I saw one D4000 signed up as "ACADEMY" going down the GSP two days ago. I honestly don't blame Orion for "unleashing his fury" at them. I would too.

GSP I could understand, it could be for legit purposes there, but the NYS Thruway in YONKERS?

It's my understanding that they do run (open to the public) buses up to the Empire City casino from Manhattan, but I would expect them to not use NJ state buses since they don't serve NJ whatsoever. They also use them for shuttles to the Javits Center from a bunch of different Manhattan hotels, also not even entering NJ.

Coach USA Rockland/Shortline also uses state buses for NY-NY runs. It's funny, Coach is extremely careful not to use their Rockland or Orange County-owned MCIs outside their service area or for any charter service because both those counties actually give a damn about it and go after them for improperly using their buses, but they know they can get away with using a NJT bus anywhere for anything. Honestly though, I don't care so much if Coach, Academy or whoever uses them for an open to the public route outside NJ (though when possible they should be using directly-owned buses or buses owned by the county they serve), but buses bought with public money should NOT be used for charters period.

Here's the deal with that. NJT has never specified that the bus had to be used specifically on a Jersey run, this is why you see the buses outside of their footprint. Now as far as ShortLine and the County buses, Rockland County gave us the buses with the agreement that the buses only be used for Rockland runs, which for us is Exit 14. Orange County buses can pretty much go anywhere except PA, however the company does try to keep them on runs that primarily serve Orange County although the buses do end up in Sullivan and Ulster Counties quite a bit. Quite frankly, IMO these subsidized buses are more of a pain in the ass because it restricts how the runs are set up.

Another thing....people seem to be pissed that Academy got 8951 and 8952, those buses got funded out a grant because Academy expanded service into Jackson and Manchester,NJ. That's why they have those 2 buses and outside of them being used for A.C. you don't see them on any other runs.
