Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

Congrats humbleguy u seem like a good guy, seem very humble and eager to ask for advice and learn. That's very good. As the other guy said, It does get easier from here but just understand it will be the longest year of your life. At least it was for me. Probation is extremely stressful. My advice to you is take it one day, one trip, one bus stop at a time. I had a saying to myself when I got stressed out during probation and getting impatient waiting for it to just be completed. It was. "Week, day, trip, stop. It was my reminder to take it one week, one day, one trip, one stop at a time. If u can get it all the way down to just one stop at a time, even better. Good luck. Oh and the 3 most important things when driving. Mirrors, space, forward planning. Don't be afraid to get fat and take up 2 lanes as often as possible. When u do that it creates space. And I can not stress this enough... when you get on your own your going to get what's called a paddle, which will have your time points on it..I can not stress this enough FORGET THE PADDLE. The paddles are so unrealistic. Only bad things happen when u rush to try to make your time. If you fall behind who cares it don't matter they will just put u in place and even better u might be able to skip a trip, which on probation is awesome as it's less driving lol. I'm rambling sorry, u will see what I'm referring to once u get on your own lol. Congrats

Sums up my probation too. I was definitely stressed at times, especially during the first month on my own and this past month. (Which will be my last month as a probbie, knock on wood) I know others have had it worse but for me, nothing tops being on express on your first day and its the day of the TCS Marathon and you have no solid way of getting to work and you have to go to SI from Queens... it's a huge hurdle to leap over. But I'm still here. If you can survive the first day, then you'll survive the second and the 2 days become a week and then 2 weeks and then a month and then 3.

Definitely take your time and have patience for both the passengers and the other drivers on the road. They don't give jack sh- about you either way. The quicker you get used to it, the easier it'll get. Learn the habits of the other drivers and the pedestrians and it'll help with your anticipation and forward planning. If you have a feeling that they're going to turn it front of you, then 99% of the time it's going to happen and you can prepare yourself to avoid the incoming emergency or adjust your operation to avoid it completely before it becomes such. If you're in the city, then you know how everything is. Take your time but you have to be a little bit aggressive if you want to get somewhere. If you have to get fat, then do it. I've taken up the only two lanes to the Battery tunnel approach on West Street during the rush, just because I know everyone in the left lane is going to cut in front of me at the actual turn into the tunnel. You keep them back and then it's less to worry about. Just remember that when you give them an inch, they will try to take it so monitor the situation around your bus, always.

I'm just going to reinforce what Invzo said for paddles: Just remember when you report, pull out for both halves, and your pull in time (for your late slip). Burn the paddle afterwards. The moment you hit the pavement outside the depot, your lateness is the road dispatcher's problem. Check your bus after every trip, take 5 mins to stretch. Take a personal if you have to. Don't let the people pressure you into blowing lights and doing anything else unsafe. It is not your business to get them where they're going. Protecting your job and going home the same way you left is.

Also, everyone rides for free. (And I think Invzo said this too) They don't pay, great. They pay, even better. They want a transfer, give it to them. It's not your money and it's not your job to enforce the fare. Guy gets on and walks right past you, F5. Baby mama with her 6 kids dips a card and its short and keeps walking (because they will keep walking like everything honky dory), F5 her and her 6 kids. Senior citizens puts $1.34 in the box, F5. You will definitely be able to read everyone who's not going to pay before they even get on the bus. Either way, your paycheck comes in at the same time, on time every 2 weeks.

Finally, (because I too will keep rambling) read the bulletins and educate yourself on the rules/procedures past the MTA rulebook. The majority of them are posted in every depot and on the depot computer. If you have any questions, ask away. Good luck!

hey Seven... what depot are you out of.... if you live in Queens, have you ever considered transfering to Queens?  Also the saying if they dont pay great, if they do even better... for me its the opposite way around lol... if they pay great, if they dont pay even better lol... i love when people dont pay... it saves them the looking for their metrocard for 45 seconds...  that shi* annoys me.. you have been waiting for the bus atleast 15 minutes ( and i know atleast 15 minutes cause im down 15 minutes) and you dont have your metrocard ready???? lol thats the thing that annoys me the most... lol oh and getting fat taking up both lanes to the tunnel.. awesome.. if i was there with u id have been right behind u doing the same lolol....  oh one more thing.. your pull out from swing time, sometimes you wont make that if u have a short swing and u blew the swing...  good post seven nice job and good luck with your last month ( last month was annoying for me, it was so close to being done yet so far away lol)

I've been on medical hold since the beginning of June. I have sleep apnea my ahi was 17.5. Unfortunately I wasn't covered with insurance in June and when I renewed I June it was past the renewal for July. I finally got coverage in August went to the sleep specialist and last Saturday(8/19) I got my cpap machine. I've been on it 6 days night number 7 tonight only 23 more days to use it. My Ahi is now between 2.0 and 4.0......everything happens for a reason. I know I'm going to Have to redo drug test and medical since it will over 3 months. But at least I know I will be clear with everything. I will be going back Monday Sept 25th because my appointment to see my Sleep Specialist is Sept 23rd.

I'm out of Yukon. I used to live in Queens, got forced out to SI when I started and turned down the transfer when it came in. I'm in SI now so the commute is all good.

During our class of 42, half was forced to SI, I was forced to pick Manhattan wishing for a bx depot, so far the commadary within the depot is cool, the lines are fairly easy and knock on wood my commute is free and easy to the depot. So I'm contemplating doing my probation yr here and maybe pic bx come the general pick in dec. let's see.
