Via Garibaldi 8 Posted August 1, 2013 Share #3577 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Are you surprised? Not at all... Passengers in a number of communities have been complaining about the inaccurate translations for years and have requested that they have better translations posted (in other words, professional translations done by humans as opposed to machine generated ones). I don't even know why they bother. They would be better off just putting everything in English because the translations often times make no sense. Poor translations can do more harm than good. I know that the MTA does have a problem in inaccurate translations in Chinese. CenSin, peacemak3r and others pointed this out in a different discussion. My Chinese is not 100% admitably, growing up in an English dominant household, and I haven't took Mandarin classes since 2009, but from the quick refresher on written simplified when these problems by the senior members were highlighted, I can see how some of the canjie characters are just plain wrong, conveying incorrect meanings, as well as, with the incorrect grammar on top of that, way off. Even the signs @ Canal Street, the translations dos not look correct.
peacemak3r Posted August 1, 2013 Share #3579 Posted August 1, 2013 To the Chinese signs, it comes to the point my grandmother just calls and asks me if anything is going on on the line and she'll be on her way. She doesn't bother reading them anymore.

RestrictOnTheHanger Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3581 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) Those translations are pretty sh*tty... Probably machine generated... At least they're better than Bloomberg's! Does anyone know where cars #1966-1970 are because I noticed that those cars are not linked with the cars they were liked to as part of the T-Mobile ad-wrap set. Instead 2081-2085 are linked with the remaining wrapped cars. Does anyone know if its still in Corona Yard.I caught half of the wrap set last night at GCT. I forget the numbers, but there was a RFW on the manhattan bound side and the wraps were on the west half of the train. Grand Concourse Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3582 Posted August 2, 2013 I know this is fantasy but would you like the idea of a big undergroun transit museum with 8 tracks with island platforms in between (4 IRT, 4 IND/BMT) with the ability for 720 feet trains. There would be a platform at the side to connect all the platforms. This would allow the MTA to save more trains for the museums and keep the cars out of yards, which currently is leaving enough space for other cars that could be occupying the space. Also, there isn't nearly enough room in the transit museum. This would be my fantasy. Does anyone like the idea. I know it would probably never happen (at least not in our lifetimes), it would cost too much, it's not a priority, there isn't enough space. We don't even have a museum for the buses yet. I highly doubt that would happen. A 3 track platform would be nice, but you can forget about 8.

MHV9218 Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3591 Posted August 2, 2013 Some old school rollsigns on those R32 J trains...saw one that read "J Nassau Street Local," another where the destination was "Lower Manhattan Broad Street."
RollOver Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3592 Posted August 2, 2013 I too also saw the Nassau Street Local signage on the 32s last week.

RollOver Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3594 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) I notice that on the many times. EDIT: Some R62As also have R62-like rollsigns. Spotted several of them while RFWing the today. Edited August 2, 2013 by RollOverMyHead
realizm Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3595 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) There's a R160 on the , saw it today, lead car number 9712. I couldn't get the pic in time, the doors were shut already on the R46 I was on, coming back from Flushing after getting visual footage of the R188's in testing with the camera, as well as pics of the usual R62's on the . (The single R188 set for training arrived @ 5th Ave on the IRT Flushing line in Manhattan @ 10:45AM, caught the R188 Times Sq bound and Flushing bound at the same station, creating the photo thread shortly.) Grand Concourse Posted August 3, 2013 Share #3596 Posted August 3, 2013 Rode the R for the last time thru the tunnel. They sure wasted no time to put up the new signs leaving only a paper sign showing manhattan/queens at Court st. Caught an R32 J at Fulton. A few days ago I caught an R160 C, but did see some in the opposite direction today (mix of 8500s and 9900s). On the way back I caught all 3 A trains (lefferts, long wait for the Far Rock, and a little more waiting for the Rock park A).

Caught the T-Mobile cars @ Court Square: That's the same train I saw during the TOMC some buffs were overacting to this wrapped train calling it the g** train during that day.
