Worst express

Counter to the "best" threads...name express runs you think are the worst and why.

RULE: Must be a current, existing service pattern. No historical service patterns are eligible and neither are "fantasy" service patterns based on existing, once existing, or non-existing track layouts.

Mine (due to lack of speed - they don't save much time over the local):

<6> between Hunts Point and 138th/3rd (both directions)

(4)(5) between Atlantic and Franklin (both directions)

(A)(D) SOUTHBOUND between 125th and 59th (too many timers south of 86th Street)

why is the downtown (4) and (5) so bad?

I don't agree with you on the (D) and (N). They run great down 4th avenue.

Also the (A) sucks on Fulton and 8th Avenue.

my problem with the (D)(N) SB is that ridiculous timer at 36th st that basically forces everything to run at a crawl. They could have those trains coast in the same way they do coming into Atlantic.

(A) entire Fulton Street Line. B/w 14th Street and Washington Heights-168th Street (Northbound)

(D) entire Concourse Express (Both South and Northbound)

(N) b/w 59th Street and 36th Street (Northbound)

(Q) b/w 14th Street-Union Square and Canal Street (Southbound)

(4)(5) b/w Franklin and Atlantic Avenues (Northbound)

(4)(5) b/w Borough Hall and Nevins Street (Southbound)

<6> b/w 3rd Avenue-138th Street and Hunts Point Avenue (Both South and Northbound)

<7> b/w Queensboro Plaza and 61st Street-Woodside (Northbound)

Reason b/c of the timers

- Central Park West express (A)(D) {59th-125th}....

the express has a tendency to parallel the local at the same rate the local's going... especially heading downtown....

- Queens Blvd express {[Jackson Hgts (E)(F)] - Queens Plz (E), 21st/QB (F)}

in either direction, it lags too much for my liking... you never move at a constant rate; intermittent movement.... it's annoying....

(A) Sometimes on 8 Av. Reason: Due to train traffic.

(D) Around the Concourse. Reason: Gets Slow

(E) As of late (Between Forest Hills 71-Av to Jackson Hits-Roosevelt Av & Union Tpke to Forest Hills 71 Av) late middays Manhattan Bound. Reason: Slower Speed than usual.

(Q) On weekends skipping 49 av. I don't know why it's even a express if it skips only one stop. Reason: Useless

  • Broadway express (Q): only because it's infrequent enough that it saves no time on average and sometimes stalls for local trains at 34 Street–Herald Square.
  • The 4 Avenue express (D)(N): because of the ridiculous timers around 36 Street.
  • The 8 Avenue express (A): is often slower than the (C)(E).

For me:

IND/BMT

(A) Express from 42nd to 59th St (NB)

(A)(D) Express from 125th to 145th (NB/SB)

(A)(D) Express from 86th to 59th St.

(E)(F) Express from Elmurst to 63rd Drive

(:)(D)(N)(Q) Manhattan Bridge Express. While speed is restricted due to bridge weight, a bit more speed would be nice to help speed up the ride over the Bridge

(D)(N) Dekalb Skip Stop Express

(Q) Express from 57th St to 42nd (SB)

IRT

(2)(3) Express 86th to 96th (NB)

(2)(3) Express 50th to 42nd St; Houston St to Chambers St (SB)

(5) Express 174th to 180th Street. While I understand theres curves, trains usually end up stopping rather then going. (Not including the (2)(5) track swap)

(6) Express 3rd to Hunts Point

(4)(5) Express 86th to 125th

(7) Express Queensboro to Woodside

I can agree with the others, but why the Southbound (4)(5) between Atlantic and Franklin? The northbound stretch is loaded with timers, but going Southbound there are no timers at all! When there are no bottlenecks at Rogers Junction, trains almost fly down that stretch! Downtown (4) and (5) come into Franklin crazy fast.

I'm gonna have to pick the (A).

The (A)...too many timers. One group of timers that annoy me are the ones at and north of Lafayette Avenue, northbound.

Yeah, im about to stop calling it the (A)cela Express.. More like the Slow (A)ss line..

It sucks as HELL theres a timer at ENY............. smh
